Informacje parafialne

Dear Parishioners,

Very soon we will be celebrating two very important feasts in the liturgical calendar - the Ascension of Jesus

and Pentecost.

Initially after the resurrection, Apostles and followers of Jesus went in to hiding for fear of their lives. They had

seen Jesus betrayed, denied, condemned and crucified. They had lost all heart. But eventually they began to find

the courage and strength to believe in Him and in themselves. Jesus had appeared to them several times to

strengthen and encourage them. So they began to go into the streets and villages and proclaim the good news of

the resurrection. They began to preach, heal and teach.

They did not do any of this by themselves. They were filled with the Spirit of the risen Jesus. When the crowds

asked by what power they heal and preach, St. Peter replied that it is faith in the name of Jesus the sick are

made better and many people are healed and cured. The followers of Jesus placed their hands on the people and

they received the Holy Spirit.

When we were baptized, we too had hands laid on us. We were given a name, we were anointed and we were

filled with the gift of the same Holy Spirit. This simple but profound ritual was repeated when we celebrated

our Confirmation. We were sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Just as the first followers of Jesus proclaimed and announced the good news of his resurrection, we in our time

and in our way are called to do the same. Today, we are the people who are called to be witnesses and

messengers of the resurrection. We do this in our homes, our communities and in our workplaces; wherever and

however we can. Because of their baptism, all members of the people of God have become missionary

disciples. That is why every Christian is challenged here and now, to be actively engaged in proclaiming the

good news.

As we prepare to celebrate the Feasts of the Ascension of the Lord and of Pentecost, may we recall and

remember our own baptism and confirmation. May the Lord help us to realize that we are called not only to

believe in his resurrection, but also to live and proclaim this Good News through the quality of our daily lives

with each other.

God bless

Fr. Gregg

“Jezus obiecuje swoim uczniom: "Nie zostawię was sierotami. Przyjdę do was w moim Duchu". Jednak zanim

też dzięki niej naprawdę zobaczę, że Go potrzebujemy, i zaczniemy Go przyzywać.”

List Papieża Franciszka do wszystkich wiernych na maj 2020 roku.

Drodzy bracia i siostry,

Zbliża się maj, miesiąc, w którym lud Boży szczególnie żarliwie wyraża swoją miłość i nabożeństwo do

Dziewicy Maryi.

i wam błogosławię.

Franciszek

W tym trudnym czasie niech Bóg obdarzy was zdrowiem i pokojem i niech obficie okazuje wam swoją

Pope joins Interreligious Prayer, begging God to end Pandemic

At a time of global "tragedy and suffering" because of the coronavirus, and in view of the long-term impact it will have, believers of every religion should beg mercy from the one God and father of all, Pope Francis said. During his early morning Mass, Pope Francis joined leaders of every religion marking May 14 as a day of prayer, fasting and acts of charity to ask God to stop the coronavirus pandemic. Some people might think, "'It hasn't affected me; thank God I'm safe.' But think about others! Think about the tragedy and also about the economic consequences, the consequences on education," the pope said in his homily. "That is why today everyone, brothers and sisters from every religious tradition are praying to God," he said. The day of prayer was called for by the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity, an international group of religious leaders formed after Pope Francis and Sheikh Ahmad el-Tayeb, grand imam of al-Azhar, signed a document in 2019 on promoting dialogue and "human fraternity." During the pope's Mass, livestreamed from the chapel of the Domus Sanctae Marthae, he said he could imagine some people would say that gathering believers of all religions to pray for a common cause "is religious relativism, and you can't do it." "But how can you not pray to the Father of all?" he asked. "We are all united as human beings, as brothers and sisters, praying to God each according to our own culture, traditions and beliefs, but brothers and sisters praying to God," the pope said. "This is important: brothers and sisters fasting, asking God to pardon our sins so that the Lord would have mercy on us, that the Lord would forgive us, that the Lord would stop this pandemic." But Pope Francis also asked people to look beyond the coronavirus pandemic and recognize that there are other serious situations bringing death to millions of people. "In the first four months of this year, 3.7 million people died of hunger. There is a pandemic of hunger," he said, so when asking God to stop the COVID-19 pandemic, believers should not forget the "pandemic of war, of hunger" and so many other evils spreading death. "May God stop this tragedy, stop this pandemic," he prayed. "May God have mercy on us and also stop other awful pandemics: those of hunger, war, children without education. And we ask this as brothers and sisters, all together. May God bless us and have mercy on us."

NEWS FROM YOUR KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS AND LADIES AUXILIARY

Five Reasons You Should Pray the Rosary

Pope Francis encouraged Catholics to “rediscover” the power of rosary during May, the month of Mary May is the month of the Blessed Virgin Mary. For Knights of Columbus, this has a special significance. When a man joins our Order, he receives a Knights of Columbus rosary - and with more than 2 million members, that is a lot of rosaries. Praying the rosary is an activity that our members do together as part of council life, even now during the coronavirus pandemic. According to Catholic tradition, St. Dominic was given the rosary by the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1214 in the Monastery of Prouille. Since then, it has been considered one of the Catholic Church’s powerful tools of prayer, loved by Catholics across the centuries. Pope Francis is now encouraging all Catholics to “rediscover the beauty of praying the rosary” and pray two additional prayers, appropriate to this time of pandemic, at the end of every rosary.

But why pray the rosary? Here are 5 reasons. One for every decade: 1. The Blessed Mother gave 15 promises to those who prayed the rosary – These include the assurance of

receiving the sacraments at the time of death; never being conquered by misfortune; and her own special protection.

2. To obtain world peace - “Continue praying the rosary every day in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary, in order to obtain peace for the world and the end of the war, because only she can help you.” – Our Lady of Fatima

3. Time to reflect on the Gospel mysteries - In between each decade, we are invited to reflect on the Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious and Luminous mysteries revealed in the Gospels.

4. Spiritual healing - Speaking of silence, another purpose of praying the rosary is to allow God to enter our hearts. As we meditate through the repetitive prayers, we can better hear God. We hear him in the silence of our hearts, where Christ’s spirit dwells.

5. Prayer works -The power of prayer is unspeakable. It is our lifeline to God. Join in live every night at 8 PM Eastern, throughout the month of May, for the recitation of the Most Holy Rosary from the Luminous Mysteries Chapel at the Saint John Paul II National Shrine in Washington, DC. MORE NEWS FROM YOUR KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS AND LADIES AUXILIARY

Leave No Neighbor Behind Across the nation, Knights of Columbus councils have answered the call to “Leave No Neighbor Behind” during this Covid-19 pandemic crisis. Brother Knights, what will you do as a Man of Faith and a Family of Prayers? Small gestures that produce great results. For some members it is a phone call or two nightly to a neighbor, a friend, to a Brother Knight and our families. We ask how they are doing, what do they need, and how we can help. We then may make a trip to a store for milk, or other supplies. We may say “see you soon” and park in a driveway and talk to them face to face 10 feet apart but it is what they needed. Small gestures that produce great results. Maybe they need a small repair completed in their house but are fearful to ask for help. We can show up with a mask, cleaning supplies, and tools, helping them in a time of need. Maybe it is giving them a ride somewhere or cutting their grass or bringing them food and a couple of dollars. Small gestures that produce great results. We have kept our council active during this pandemic. Since March, we have been holding our monthly planning and business meetings using virtual applications. We have added additional virtual update meetings and virtual prayer sessions. Our Facebook and website have been updated frequently with additional spiritual resources to help our St. John’s family as they pray together in their homes. As you know, we support the Hanover Township Food Pantry in our council and parish throughout the year. With the cancellation of activities and masses, the monthly food drives have not occurred. The food pantry counts on those donations to supplement the purchasing that they do with funds from other sources. We have been in contact with the Hanover Township Food Pantry and have discovered that the pantry is in dire need. Unfortunately, because of the purchasing limits, they are asking for food donations instead of monetary donations. Right now, they just are not able to keep enough food on the shelves. The Knights and Ladies Auxil-iary members are collecting donations and shopping to fill the shelves. We have also solicited local businesses to join with us in this endeavor, and many of them have made additional donations which helped us increase our dona-tion to the food pantry. In the time of Knights that word meant something, it was more than a word, it was a heartfelt desire to be faithful, to defend, to train, to be a man of honor, to help others and finally to pray that you remain worthy of the word Knight. We are proud of the Knights and Ladies that have stepped Into the Breach to help others during this crisis. Fr. Gregg, Fr. Nate, the deacons, and all parishioners are in our prayers.
