THE SIXTH TEXASGENERAL EXHIBITION

FOREWORDTexas artists are appearing in important national exhibit ions

with increasing frequency and dist inction. The annua l T exas

General Exhibition has been one of th e most sign ificant com­

pet it ive proving grounds for the artis ts of the St at e. In this

Sixth T exas General Exhibition, some of the leading ar tists

are not represented because of their active participation in t hewar effort, but the exhibit indicates that T exas art is main­

t aining its steady development and many young artists are

introduced.

The three museums who ori ginated this exhibit ion in 1939and have assem bled it since that time, this year welcome th e

Universi ty of Texas as an additional annual sponsor of the

show.

For the current exhibition, 175 art ist s submitted 296works to a jury composed of artists and art directors. From

this number, 105 works by 93 artists were selected to makethis exhibit one of the largest. Last year 's exhibition estab­

lished a record for sales, and the growing interest in this an ­

nual art competition should find many works from this show

being acquired by Texas collectors .
