Education &Digital Literacy:

Increasing ACCESS

to Lifelong LEARNING

Opportunities

3D Printing on the Maker[Space]Ship

LEGO® Robotics Camp at Edenvale Branch

We at San José Public Library have always seen ourselves as educators and connectors, ensuring our community has access to the resources they need to be successful in school, career, and beyond.

Our staff and leadership teams have worked hard to continually improve how we deliver programs, events and information to meet our goal of empowering San José residents to be fully engaged learners with equitable access to resources and connections.

In May 2018, the Mayor and City Council approved the City’s first-ever Educational and Digital Literacy Strategy! This strategy will ensure that we are focused and accountable in our mission to serve you, our San José community, by making sure that every member of the community has access to a vast array of ideas and information.

We are all lifelong learners, and SJPL is excitedto share our pathway of learning with you!

Through this strategy, we will focus our efforts on:• An Education Policy for the City of San José,

ensuring we as City leaders are held accountablefor our efforts

• Quality STEAM based programs for youth throughour branches and Maker[Space]Ship

• Early Education support for families withour youngest learners

• Improved programming for students after schooland during summer, which helps them continue thelearning that happened during the school year

• College and career readiness for the next generationof Silicon Valley’s workers and innovators

• And, digital literacy for all ages, so that San Joséresidents can feel connected and empowered inour ever more digital world.

As we implement quality improvements to our programs, you may notice a few changes in program presentation, or how we go about our work. Please continue to give us feedback on what works (or doesn’t). We’re working to ensure that we’re doing the best we can to help students succeed.
