Whether you’re a collector or just curious about art, this is your opportunity to visit creative spaces in beautiful Skagit County, meet the artists, watch demonstrations and buy local art right from the source.

The artists of Skagit Artists Together believe in the value of opening their studios to visitors and sharing a unique artistic experience. Volunteers have contributed hundreds of hours and our generous sponsors have contributed financial support to ensure SAT Studio Tours continues to be an important event in our community.

Skagit Artists Together

In 1989, seventeen of Gunter’s paintings toured in Russia. The paintings were trapped for twenty four years by cold war bureaucracy in a Soviet era museum basement.

Gunter regained contact through Facebook with his long lost Russian host in 2013. He immediately assembled a team of film makers to document the rescue, and bring home the lost artworks. The film follows Gunter into one of Stalin’s secret science towns near the Mongolian border to locate the cache of kidnapped egg tempera artworks.

“The Quest for the Lost Paintings of Siberia” is a documentary film chronicling the eleven day rescue attempt of Jack Gunter paintings.

Signature artist Jack Gunter, is self-taught. Using the ancient technique of egg tempera painting, he exhibited his large format works in several New England museums and was included in an Andrew Wyeth and Family show in the Sharon, N.H. Art Center in 1979.

Since moving to Camano Island he has created over one thousand additional paintings, three movies, and six books.

He lives in a cliff-side cabin with views of the Olympic Mountains, eagles, and whales out his front window while he works on new paintings, his film, and a memoir.
