After some resear& I found a gentleman called Jack MarrvUle a t Frankston Australla to provide advlce. Jack 1s a n old poacher from way back with marry trophies to hls credlt, who has recently resumed shootingtrapafter ahreak ofmany years. (At $700 for a new stock thls was one plece of advice I canvenlently ignored). Geoff Wallls of Frankston Australlawas happy to take my money and he and Jack looked a n with some $ee as I approached my first compeuuan. I have to admit after shooting 30 stralght in pradlce I thought the game was easy, however 37/50 In a DB event soon brought me to my senses. After thls brlefIntroducUon It was off to Karumba. 1992 CRAYFISH POKER Not everything is possible but a 25/25 is. . .

Introduction In keeping with the Crayilsh concept. the Geraldton Gun Club will intmducc a new concept to its annual Crayfish Camival and it wffl he krlowl a s Cravflsh Poker. It is based on the number of 25s ashooter can getin f i e allocated events and takes the form ofa poker hand. but these hands do not necessarily conform to normal card conventions a s the 'Claynsh' have made up their own rules!

How to Play To be ellgible a shooter must shoot a t least one 25/25, commoniy r e f e d to as a 'Possible' In any one of the five allocated events which are llsted a s follows:

The winning hands are split into 8 categories, ranging h m shooting only one 25 or 'possible' out of the flve allocated events to shooting all flve possibles known as a 'full house' as shown below. Each category has combinations attached to it, 1.e. i f a shooter wanted to achieve Category 4 they could do so in a number of ways by shooting 25s in Events 1-2-4 or 1-2-7 or 1-3-4 or 1-3-7 or 1-4-7 or 2-3-7 or 2-4-7. Each category has cash prizes and these wffl be divided amongst shooters in each catego~y. We believe that a s shootem movc into higher categories more cash wlll be won by themas thew would be less shooters in these categories, but the club cannot guarantee this will be the case.

Rules (1) A shoot off will not count in this concept (2) A shooter cannot claim more than one category i.e, 11 a

shooter scores all five possiblcs they could not llren claim lo be part of the lower categories as well.

(3) A shooter cannot elect a lower category having achieved a higher one.

(4) The point score will be converted back into a double barrel score, so that 75/75 does not necessarily have to be attained to qualify a s a possible. in effect it will be the number of tareets hit. -

(5) If a category is not a t b h e d then the money allocated will jackpot to the following year.

(6) The Committee reserves the rlght to change the rules and delbitions and in the case of a dispute the Committee's decision is final.

The club will also pay a borrus of $50 10 be divided amongst shootcrs achieving thelr l7nr 25 trap break badge in addition to what final categories they may nnlsh with. Shooters are encouraged to nominate for all 8 events on the program. Shooters who wish nor to nominate for some of the llvr allocated events simply reduce the hlghcst category they could have achieved if they nominated for all flve plus they reduce their chance of winnlng the Carnival High Gun. Benefits to Shooten Psvcholoeidv - evem shooter would belleve they are capable Af achi&iwvingat least dne 25 or more in the 5 evenis and some would go further bell- they could achieve the ultimate 'full house' and most ~mbablv will. This type of dlWiing reverses that of graded optional sweeps - normally shooters pay their sweep money and would think afthe money to be won and then uy to achieve a 25 or 24 or 23/25 regd less of grading.

- ~ - - - - ~ - A -

&Gtithe;thin normal nominations. It is important to note that even ifa shooter does notget a25/25 in a n event they could still be ellglble for places and prizes in their respective grades. ?he club also has the Double Rise Pages Special a s a lead up to the 25 pair State Double Rise Championship and Crayilsh to be won in events 4 and 7. So if you play all 8 events right you could win an Overall High Gun. Crayfish and other great prizes along the way.

The NSW Shooting Association has been pursuing for some years now a suitable venue for an international target shooting complex for all shooting disciplines and archery. The State's Department of Sport, Recreation and Racine has endorsed the

NEW SOUTH WALES International Target Shooting Complex

requirement to establysh a complex that would cater for national, international as well as Commonwealth and Olympic Games shooting and archery events a t the one venue. At the present time, the Government is considering the Kariong proposal. Kariong range has been in continuous operation since 1946 and is currently the home of various local shooting clubs.

meeting rooms will cater for international and UIT representatives and competition requirements, includine:

Kariong is only 60 km north of Sydney, adjacent to the Sydney-Newcastle Expressway, and provides ready access to a large percentage of the State's population.

This international shooting complex will bring together, in one location, the best quality facilities and latest technology for all disciplines of the sport in a modern complex operated as a commercial ventuke.

For clay target shooting, the Kariong proposal will include a combination of UIT and Australian competition traps with the most recent developments in trap and skeet equipment included to ensure our shooters - - maintain the competitive edge. A Field and Game range with electronically controlled targets in a number of carefully planned layouts will provide a demanding and exciting field shoot.

The complex will have full facilities for up to 600m big bore rifle shooting, a number of indoor and outdoor pistol, air pistol, air rifle and smallbore ranges from 10 to 50 metres as well as a black powder range and comprehensive target and field archery ranges.

A centralised administration block, providing the focus for the complex, and including retail outlets, museum, family entertainment areas, restaurants, club and

* Administration offices for the Shooting Association and its afXliates

0 Referees, judges, disputes and International delegates rooms

* Meeting and lecture rooms / * Library facilities I e Media and telecommunication facilities

* Indoor and outdoor ceremonial and presentation areas

An on-site resort style motel will appeal to overseas and interstate travellers and their families, particularly as it will have a gymnasium, swimming pool and tennis courts to unwind after a day's shoot.

Funding for the complex is in hand with full support from the NSW Gun Club with assistance &om the NSW Shooting Association. No government funding is involved.

The complex will also provide a headquarters for the NSW Firearms Safety Awareness Council.

For a brochure on the aronosal. send a stamped self addressed envelope to:

NSW Shooting Association P.O. Box 719, Gkbe, N.S.W. 2037

The NSW Shooting Association will continue to support the operations of all clubs and associations on their home grounds, as well as push for the development of regional complexes particdarly in southern andwestern Sydney, and selected country areas.
