Dear Colleague,

Greetings to you all from all of us – members of the IADVL, Pondicherry Branch. It isour proud privilege to be hosts for this forthcoming XIII South Zone IADVL Conference

to be held on 25th and 26th September 2004, at Pondicherry and we extend a warm and

hearty welcome to you and your family. The Pre-conference CME will be held on

September 24th, 2004. Our itinerary includes lectures by eminent dermatologists, theaward paper presentation session, a special oration in memory of the Late Prof. Sardarilal

and other extra curricular, cultural and spiritual experiences. We request you to read

through the brochure for details and to actively participate in the scientific sessions.

We are looking forward to meeting one and all of you at Pondicherry in September.

ABOUT PONDICHERRY

Vibrant with life, tranquil with peace, Pondicherry with a mixed culture of both

east and west lies on the Coromandel coast 160 Km south of Chennai. The Bay of

Bengal is lapping its shores on the east and the state of Tamilnadu is enclosing it on theother sides. The Union Territory, Pondicherry also includes Karaikal (in Tamilnadu),

Mahe (in Kerala) and Yanam (in AP). Reminiscent of French rule, Pondicherry is a well

laid out town of parallel streets with houses, an admixture of French and Indian

architecture. It has been made world famous by the Aurobindo Ashram and its offshoot,Auroville. The Ashram housing almost 2000 devotees is a self-sufficient entity, with its

own small-scale cottage industries, school of integral education, a haven for the lovers of

peace and spiritual seekers. Auroville, an international township, 7 Kms from JIPMER

with its Matrimandir (a meditation hall, which is an engineering marvel), Bharat Nivasand other architectural masterpieces, is a must in a tourist itinery.

Neat, pleasant and charming, Pondicherry has a beautiful beach an ideal place for an evening stroll. Chunambar Boat House situated on the outskirts of Pondicherry

offering boating facilities is another attraction. Shopping for the unique marbled silk

sarees, leather goods, handicrafts, perfumery and hand made paper are definite attractionsfor those of you with a taste for finer things in life. There are a large number of temples

in and around Pondicherrry and also 18th and 19th century Churches. A visit to them will

give solace to all of you.

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, JIPMER,as is popularly known, is the culmination of what begun as the Ecole de Medicine de

Pondicherry, the Medical School during the French regime. At present, it is one of the

premier medical institutes of India, a seat of excellence in teaching, research and patientcare. This 860-bedded hospital is the first hospital in the public sector to have fully

computerized information system. Besides conducting MBBS and Postgraduate courses

in all medical specialities, M Ch in Urology and Cardiothoracic Surgery, M.ScBiochemistry, B.Sc MLT, BMRSc, MRD courses are also offered. It also conducts

National Teachers Training courses for medical teachers from all over the country twice a

year.

JIPMER is located on the outskirts of Pondicherry on the road to Chennai viaTindivanam amongst sylvan surroundings.

GUIDELINES FOR SCIENTIFIC PAPERS

1) Abstracts should be less than 250 words and typed in the prescribed given format2) The title should be brief and in capitals. Also state authors name, institutional

affiliations, city and state. Underline the name of the presenter.

3) The abstracts should contain the following headings:a) Introduction

b) Methodology

c) Summary of results

d) ConclusionsCase report should have introduction, case report, and conclusions

4) Only postgraduate students and dermatologists below 35 years of age who are

members of the IADVL can participate in the award sessions (Please enclose proof of

age).5) It is mandatory for the presenting author as well as guest speakers to register as a

delegate for the conference. Furnish registration number for confirmation.6) Poster presentation – a separate award for the best poster will be presented. Posters

must be displayed on 25.09.04 and 26.09.04 and the presenters should be available for

discussion with the judges at the time of poster review.7) Kindly indicate your choice of paper presentation – Award/Free Paper/Poster. We

will do our best to comply with your request. Most of the case reports may be put as

posters unless they have significant findings.

8) Mail the original abstracts and two photocopies by registered post to Chairperson – Scientific Committee or email the original abstract to [email protected]

GENERAL FACILITIES AND INFORMATION

1. Only LCD projector will be available for oral presentation2. Award /Free paper presentation will be allocated a maximum of seven minutes

3. Each slide should have a maximum of 26 words within 6 lines. Each paper should not

have more than 16 slides.4. For poster presentation: Maximum 1 meter x 1-meter space will be available. Display

board and drawing pins will be provided

TRANSPORT, TRAVEL AND ACCOMODATION FACILITIES

Transport will be provided to delegates from hotels, guest houses and specified pick-up

points to the conference venue.

Pondicherry is well connected with Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh

by road. It is connected by rail and air to other parts of the country via Chennai. It is 160Km from Chennai, connected by frequent public and private buses.

Pondicherry is on the computer network for railway reservations. Delegates may utilizethis facility for advance return journey reservations.

The travel agent will undertake all travel and hotel accommodation arrangements if
