A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who attended SkunkFest 2017.

I want to thank all the hard working volunteers and SkunkHaven Reps who helped.

Much assistance is essential to set up on Friday, run a booth on Saturday and the tear down Saturday night.

Without all of you the SkunkFest would not exist.

I would also like to thank all the vendors who attended and we hope they all come back for SkunkFest 2018!

A word of Thanks!

So how DO you remove that stink? Well, because my dog likes to “play” with the wild skunks outside (probably because the inside skunks seem “safe”) I am familiar with the best way to clean that stink. I have been sprayed by a wild skunk twice in the past couple of years because of my dog. So how did I clean that stink? There is this wonderful solution that you can mix together to completely clean up the skunk spray. The ingredients of this solution are so basic that you probably already have them in your kitchen or bathroom cabinets! Here is the “magic” solution that you can make for yourself. (Or give the secret to all those peers who think you have all the skunk answer.) Ingredients: 1 quart Hydrogen Peroxide ¼ Cup Baking Soda 1-2 Tsp Dish soap (Dawn is usually recommended) Mix together until you have a “paste like” consistency. Once you have your solution/paste ready, use it like soap all over yourself (or a dog or other pet). Rinse & Repeat. Note: The sooner you use this solution on the sprayed “victim” the better the solution works.

Dear Daisy, Why do you insist on biting my feet? – Rebecca Walters Rebecca, I don’t really want to bite your feet. By the way, they don’t taste well at all. The problem is that you don’t feed me every time I want food. I just don’t understand that. You say you love me, but you won’t give me food anytime I want. That’s not love. I bite your feet because you won’t give me food. Give me food. -Daisy Dear Daisy, Where did my skunk Lilly hide the poop? – Emma Linton Dear Emma, I have no idea what you are talking about. What is your obsession with my poop anyway? It belongs to me! You don’t see me taking your poop, now do you? I just want you to leave my poop alone. Maybe if you would leave it alone, you might start seeing it more. -Daisy

“Dear Daisy ” is a new feature where you can ask questions of our resident skunk, Daisy. Dear Daisy is meant to be fun, but you might just find it a little bit educational! Want to ask Daisy a question? Email [email protected] or mail a Letter to Daisy at SkunkHaven Rescue C/O Deborah Cipriani, Dear Daisy 32072 Center Ridge Road North Ridgeville, Ohio 44039 *Daisy kindly asks that you send donations to help her fellow skunks!

Dear Daisy

More than likely as a pet skunk owner, you have been asked the question; “What do you use to clean up skunk spray?”

As a pet skunk owner, I have been asked this question many times from friends, family and even co-workers.

Our peers suddenly view us pet skunk owners as experts about skunks, whether they are pets or wild skunks. They want answers to their questions.

Of course we are all familiar with the old wife’s tale about the tomato juice baths. But no matter how much you bathe in tomato juice, it is not going to remove the stench. Also, you just end up smelling like week old spaghetti.

There are products that you can buy at any local pet store that claim to remove the smell from being sprayed by a skunk. If you have been sprayed like me (from a wild skunk) then you know that a lot of these products work as well as tomato juice.
