An invitation to
sample Strata waspassed around my
oce beore landing
in my e-mail box; my
colleagues are not
seaood ans, and to
be honest, neither am
I. However, Im always eager to try something
new, so I took the opportunity to visit Strata.
Located on the 55th and 56th foor o
InterContinental Doha The City, Strata is the
highest dining venue and boasts some o the
best views o Doha. I certainly cant argue
with that. The restaurant, split over two levels,
with a dining area on the lower foor and uber
chic bar on the second, really does showcase
spectacular sights.
On arrival at the restaurant, mysel and my two
dining partners were ushered upstairs to the
bar or a pre-meal tipple. The riendly serverswere enthusiastic to give us the lowdown on
some o the most exciting and popular drinks
available. An interesting beverage menu
pleases with a selection o classic and signature
beverages, alongside more entertaining
oerings o molecular rereshments, whichare produced through oaming or smoking
techniques. The drinks are on the steep side o
the price spectrum, so i youre on a budget, this
is not the place or you.
Ater consuming delicious beverages and
splendid views, we were escorted to our table.
The ood menu oers a selection o three caviar
and our oyster options, chilled indulgence
platters o hand-chosen seaood, accompanied
with Ches sauces, salad and bread. We all
opted or the Degustation Menu a ve course
set menu which costs QR 700. Each course is
served with a dierent type o vino, so the price
is justied.
The rst course presented was Caviar with
umami oyster; it was tasty although I wasnt
keen on the lemon oam which was generously
coated over the portion. Up next was Herb
butter poached tuna; as a tuna enthusiast thiswent down a real treat. This was ollowed by
Lime and coconut poached hamachi; I liked the
texture o the sh used with vegetables and
jelly, something dierent but delectable. The
ourth serving was Smoked lobster I adored
this, especially the presentation. The servingportions are small but lling. Each course
is presented with a specic beverage that
compliments the ood, but we couldnt drink
quickly enough so by the time we had nished
the meal we still had a table ull o drinks to get
through!
My avourite part o the meal came with
the sweet nale The Strata Compilation
which is apparently proving to be one o
the restaurant's most popular options. The
dessert platter contains a mix o mouth-
watering oerings including Guanaja chocolate
milleeuille, coconut chocolate croquettes,
Araguani chocolate crousti-ondant, jivara
creme brulee, Grue de cacao olive macaron and
Chocolate cinnamon sorbet.
Strata is the perect place i youre ater a ne
dining experience. Ill denitely go back to
enjoy the views and clever cocktails, but I thinkIll stick to the lounge and leave the dining to
the sh ans.
