About this guideSkype Manager is an integral part of using Skype in your business, including Skype

Connect. Skype Manager lets you manage Skype products via a web-based interface. You can create SIP Proles, create and delete business accounts, purchase and allocateSkype Credit, control expenditure, view itemized bills and assign Online Numbers.

Using a ctitious business, Architects, this guide walks you step-by-step through settingup and managing Skype Connect via Skype Manager.

This guide assumes that you are already familiar with the terminology and functionality ofSkype Manager. Please read both the Skype Manager User Guide and this guide beforeimplementing Skype Connect.

In addition to this guide and the Skype Manager User Guide, weve also created Skype

Connect Requirements Guide for use by IT managers and administrators. Please readthis document before conguring your SIP-enabled PBX. If you have any issues with usingSkype Connect, please see support.skype.com for more help.

    Note:

This guide may also be a useful reference for any Skype Channel Partner responsible forsetting up Skype Connect for a customer with a SIP-enabled PBX.

To use Skype Connect, you will need access to a broadband internet connection with apublic internet IP address. Skype is not a replacement for traditional telephone servicesand cannot be used for emergency calling. Skype Connect is meant to complementexisting traditional telephone services used with a corporate SIP-enabled PBX, it is not

a stand-alone solution. Skype Connect users need to ensure all calls to emergencyservices are terminated through traditional telephone services.

1.0 What's new in this release?Skype Connect 2.0 includes all the functionality of previous Skype for SIP releases, as

well as bug xes and other enhancements. These are listed in the table below.

Skype Connect 2.0 is backwards-compatible with earlier releases of Skype for SIP. Noadditional conguration is required for Sype for SIP customers to use Skype Connect 2.0.

    Change Description

IP Authentication IP authentication enables a SIP-enabled PBX that does not support

SIP REGISTER method to connect to Skype Connect using a static

    public IP Address.

IP Authentication is an optional authentication method, which

is congured in Skype Manager under 'Skype Connect' and 'SIPprole settings'.

Extension mapping Skype Connect enables a Skype business account to be assigned

to a SIP Prole so other Skype users can make free calls to a SIP

    user's Skype account.

By adding a SIP extension to a user's business account, calls

to that Skype business account will be sent to the SIP user's

    extension.

Call by Call Caller ID This feature allows a SIP-enabled PBX to select the outbound

caller ID on a call by call basis using RFC3325 P-Asserted-ID and

    Privacy:id headers.

The Caller IDs need to be added to the SIP Prole's Caller ID

section. The Caller ID can be an Online Number (where Caller ID is

available) or a landline number belonging to your business (once

    veried).

    Billing increments for calling

    landlines and mobiles

    No connection charge.

First billing period is 30 seconds, thereafter every 6 seconds.

Business account settings whenused with a SIP prole

The Target extension eld has been increased from 11 to 15 digits inthe business account settings to cater for full E.164 number format.

Page 5 Skype Connect User Guide

SIP message changes When using a PBX that does not support inserting "sip.skype.com"

in the From header, Skype Connect now allows the SIP-enabled

PBXs IP address in the From header, so long as:

The SIP user name is in the user portion of this SIP header (CiscoUCM 7.x, 8.x)

The Request Line contains the sip.skype.com domain.

    SIP Registrations method

    (username/password

    authentication)

In previous versions, we allowed up to ve bindings per

Registration, which in some cases resulted in ve SIP Invites for

    one call.

We have reduced the amount of bindings from ve to one so that

    you only receive one Invite.

    Redundancy when using Skype

    Connect

Skype Connect DNS queries will now provide you with two IP

addresses of where to send your calls. The primary and secondary

addresses are supplied using DNS-SRV records.

When your PBX is congured to use DNS-SRV you have two options

of where to send your Skype calls. Your SIP-enabled PBX requests

the IP address for sip.skype.com using a DNS-SRV (Service

request) and Skype returns two IP addresses. If the primary

IP address cannot be reached, your PBX will re-try using the

    secondary IP Address.

Please refer to your PBX manufacturer's instructions on setting up

    DNS-SRV support.

2.0 Introducing Skype ConnectSkype Connect lets you connect your SIP-enabled PBX to Skype, making it easier to

communicate in a more cost-effective way and simplifying the management of your callcosts.

    Skype Connect lets you:

Make calls, taking advantage of Skype's low cost global calling rates to landlineand mobile phones.

Purchase Online Numbers, to receive calls from landlines and mobiles in yourSIP-enabled PBX.

Assign business accounts to SIP Proles and set up Skype buttons so peoplewith Skype can call you for free through Skype.

Create multiple SIP Proles to manage usage and expenditure (if accepted byyour SIP-enabled PBX).

Set up Caller ID for their SIP Proles so your customers know they're calling.

What does SIP mean? Its an abbreviation of Session Initiation Protocol and is a signalingprotocol, used to control communications, such as voice calls over the internet. For

technical information on Skype Connect and advice on how to prepare your corporatenetwork to use it, please see Skype Connect Requirements Guide.

    2.1 Receiving incoming calls

    With Skype Connect, you can:

Receive calls to your SIP-enabled PBX made by people calling directly fromSkype. This means customers using Skype can call you for free. Anybody using

Skype can add your businesss Skype Name to their Skype contact list so theycan make free calls to you.

Add Skype buttons to your website or emails, so that customers using Skypecan call you directly with just one click. Again, this is free for people calling from

    Skype.

Purchase Online Numbers within the country that your business operates socustomers in that country can call your business at local rates. Online Numberscan be associated to a SIP Prole, meaning that your business can receive callsfrom landlines and mobiles via a SIP Prole in your SIP-enabled PBX. Your SIP-enabled PBX can then be congured to direct these calls to your desk phones.

Integrate these Skype Connect features with the built-in functionality of yourSIP-enabled PBX, such as directing calls to user extensions, Auto Attendants andHunt Groups.

3.0 Meet our example companyThroughout this guide well be using a ctitious business called Architects, to illustrate

the various processes and administrative functions available to you.

Here is a summary of how Architects is structured, so you can see what we are aiming toachieve with each process that we walk you through. You may occasionally nd it useful

to refer back to this summary.

Architects is a small business, with between 5 and 9 people.

The Skype Manager administrator is Claude Morel, who is responsible formanagement of the company's business operations.

There is a Sales team, which take calls from potential and existing clients.

The Sales team also wants to be able to make outgoing, sales-related, callsabroad.

The name of the Sales Manager is Vanessa Lombardi.

There is also an Engineering team who correspond with clients to ensure theirrequirements are met.

The name of the Structural Engineer for the Engineering team is Hiroshi Tanaka.

    4.0 Registering for Skype

ManagerBefore you can get started with Skype Connect, you need to register to use SkypeManager. To do so, visit the Skype for Business website and click Skype Manager.

    skype.com/business

Follow the instructions to specify the personal Skype account you want to use to set upSkype Manager. You can either use your existing personal Skype account or create a newone specically for your Skype Manager. (You can update your Skype account details atany time. You can do this by clicking your Skype name in the top right-hand corner of thescreen.)

We recommend that you create a new Skype account to manage your Skype Manager, and use the account exclusively for this purpose. You may, therefore, nd it useful to givethis account a Skype name that reects its purpose:

Example: The administrator for Architects, Claude Morel, creates a new Skype accountcalled 'architects.admin'.

Once you have created your new Skype account and registered for Skype Manager, youwill be automatically signed into Skype Manager.

5.0 Introduction to SIP ProfilesTo use Skype Connect, you need to create at least one SIP Prole in Skype Manager.

Creating a SIP Prole is straightforward, using the process described in 6.0 Creating aSIP Profile.

A SIP Prole comprises of six elements:

    1. SIP Credentials: these are the login details needed by your SIP-enabled PBX toconnect to Skype.

    2. Skype Credit: to pay for outgoing calls, if required.

    3. Business accounts: for receiving calls from Skype in your SIP-enabled PBX, ifrequired.

    4. Online Numbers: so people can call from landlines and mobiles, which will bedirected to your SIP-enabled PBX, if required.

    5. A monthly Channel Subscription: which determines the number of concurrentcalling channels you want to use with Skype Connect.

    6. Your preferred Caller ID: which can be any Online Number you have associatedwith your SIP Profile or a landline number your company is authorised to useonce it has completed Skype's company verification process.

This diagram summarizes the various parts of a SIP Prole:

  • 8/6/2019 Skype Connect User Guide

    11/45

Page 11 Skype Connect User Guide

A SIP Prole may be congured for outgoing calls:

To enable a SIP Prole for outgoing calls, you must allocate Skype Credit to thatSIP Prole from your Skype Manager. If the Caller ID option has been set up forthis SIP Prole, then it will be used for all outgoing calls from that SIP Prole.

A SIP Prole may also be congured for incoming calls:

To enable incoming calls, choose one or more business accounts to beassociated with the SIP Prole. You can also purchase Online Numbers andassociate them to your SIP Prole. Incoming calls to those business accounts orOnline Numbers will be directed to that SIP Prole.

    Note:

The login credentials for a SIP Prole are unique. Do not use the same SIP Prole on morethan one SIP-enabled PBX.

Some types of SIP-enabled PBX may be congured to use more than one SIP Prole, each with their own unique login credentials.

You may create as many SIP Proles as you want in Skype Manager. This is useful if you:

Have multiple SIP-enabled PBXs in different geographical locations in the samecountry, because it means you can create a separate SIP Prole for each SIP-enabled PBX.

Wish to separate and manage outgoing calling costs from different parts of yourorganization.

7.6 Using Auto-recharge for Skype Credit

Skype strongly recommends that you use the Auto-recharge option for your SkypeManager to avoid the accidental loss of connectivity that will occur should you runout of Skype Credit for your Skype Connect monthly channel subscriptions. For more

information on auto-recharging your Skype Managers credit balance, please see theSkype Manager User Guide.

Skype also strongly recommends the use of the Auto-recharge option for SIP Prolesif you want to make outgoing calls, to avoid the accidental loss of the outgoing callingcapability that will occur should a SIP Prole run out of Skype Credit. You may also ndthe Auto-recharge option a more convenient way of allocating Skype Credit to a SIP

Prole if you nd you are topping up on a regular basis.

7.7 Setting up a SIP Prole for incoming callingusing business accounts

To set up a SIP Prole for incoming calling, you must either:

Associate one or more business accounts with the SIP Prole.

Or, assign one or more Online Numbers to the SIP Prole.

Associating a business account with a SIP Prole has three purposes:

Skype calls to the Skype Name of that business account will be directed to theSIP Prole and the associated SIP-enabled PBX.

A Skype button using the Skype Name of that business account can now becreated and placed on, for example, the companys website, enabling customerswith Skype to call the SIP Prole using Skype for free. Your company is thereforeimmediately connected to millions of registered Skype users worldwide.

If the business account has any Online Numbers assigned to it, then callsto those Online Numbers will also be received in your SIP-enabled PBX. Thispotentially offers you the option to create DID (Direct Inward Dial) functionality, depending on the communications equipment you are using.

7.16 Changing a SIP Proles password

Before changing the password for a SIP Prole, please note the following important

points, to avoid any loss of connectivity:

The SIP Prole password is used by your SIP-enabled PBX to connect to Skype.

When you change the password for a SIP Prole in Skype Manager, your SIP-enabled PBX will not be automatically disconnected by Skype. It is, however, vitalthat the new password is also updated in the SIP-enabled PBXs congurationbefore the next time the PBX needs to re-register with Skype.

If the new Skype Connect password is not updated in your SIP-enabled PBXconguration, your PBX will be unable to connect to Skype the next time that ittries to re-register, resulting in the loss of any outgoing calling. Incoming calls,

if set up, will also not be received in your SIP-enabled PBX unless the SkypeConnect password is updated in your PBX.

The frequency with which your SIP-enabled PBX will re-register is determinedby whether your SIP-enabled PBX is behind a Firewall or NAT (45 seconds) orwhether it connected directly to the Internet (3600 seconds).

We recommend that SIP Prole password changes are coordinated with, orby, your IT department, or by whoever is responsible for the administration ofyour SIP-enabled PBX equipment. We also recommend that you change yourpassword and credentials in your SIP-enabled PBX at an off-peak time for yourbusiness so to avoid any potential interruption of Skype Connect.

    8.0 Advanced use of Skype

    Connect8.1 Multiple SIP Proles

Some Skype certied PBXs can accept more than one SIP Prole. Some companies, particularly those with multiple ofces will often own multiple PBXs.

Either scenario offers you, as an administrator, the option to create and administermultiple SIP Proles for ofces located in the same country.

There are very good reasons why you may want to do this:

Each SIP Prole has its own budget for outgoing calling, in the form of SkypeCredit allocated to it. By creating multiple SIP Proles for individual departments, you gain a more granular view of call expenditure made by each department. This may also aid internal budget control.

Particularly for larger companies, having a number of smaller SIP Proles maysimplify the process of calculating how many channels are needed in total, ratherthan having just a single SIP Prole with a large number of channels.

For the sake of simplicity itself. Skype recommends that a Skype Manageradministrator should create and maintain schematic diagrams of their Skype

Manager set-up (for an example schematic for our ctitious example company,Architects, please see 9.0 Architects a summary). Such schematics aresignicantly easier to maintain for smaller SIP Proles than for large ones.

For companies with branches in different countries, Skype requires that youcreate a Skype Manager for each country your business is located in, where thebranch uses Skype Connect with a SIP-enabled PBX.

    8.2 Skype Connect and DIDs

DID-like functionality can be implemented with Skype Connect, by using a combinationof Online Numbers and taking advantage of your SIP-enabled PBXs functionality andconguration options.

This is possible because Skype Connect passes details of the calls received to the PBX.Therefore, even if there are multiple Online Numbers assigned to a single SIP Prole, the PBX, if correctly congured, can direct the incoming call to the intended recipient orresource, such as a Hunt Group, Auto Attendant or Conference Bridge.

    36/45

Page 36 Skype Connect User Guide

8.2.1 How details of incoming calls are passed to the PBX

When someone calls an Online Number assigned to a SIP Prole, Skype Connect insertsthe Online Number in the INVITE request line of the incoming SIP message.

Here is an example of a SIP INVITE with an Online Number:

    INVITE: sip:[email protected]:5060;rinstance=459608bf8eeb29efSIP/2.0

    8.2.2 Extension mapping

You can add an extension number when adding a business account to a SIP Prole forincoming calling so that calls are directed to that extension number by your SIP-enabledPBX.

    Note:

Skype Connect supports unlimited business accounts with their target extensions.

8.2.3 How DID-like functionality works with Skype Connect

To illustrate how to achieve DID-like functionality with Skype Connect, we will use ourArchitects example.

Example: Architects administrator Claude Morel has already created the companys rstSIP Prole, for the Sales team. For a walk-through of the processes he followed, pleasesee 6.0 Creating a SIP Profile and 7.0 Managing a SIP Profile.

Now, he wants to set up a new SIP Prole for Engineering. This allows him to provide aseparate pool of Skype Credit for Engineering, enabling him to keep a closer eye on callexpenditure and helping with internal budgeting.

  • 8/6/2019 Skype Connect User Guide

    37/45

Page 37 Skype Connect User Guide

    1. Administrator Claude Morel sets up a new SIP Profile for the Engineering team,Engineering.Architects, following the process described in 6.0 Creating a SIPProfile. The following screen, showing the registration details, is displayed:

    2. He clicks Profile settings in the Skype Connect menu on the left to proceed.Thefollowing screen is displayed:

He now follows the processes described in 7.0 Managing a SIP Profile tocomplete the setting up of the new SIP Prole.

First, he needs to buy a monthly Channel Subscription for the SIP Prole.

    38/45

Page 38 Skype Connect User Guide

    3. He clicks Buy a channel subscription to activate this profile. The followingscreen is displayed:

    4. He enters the number of calling channels needed and clicks Buy now.

    5. Now, as he did with his first SIP Profile, he chooses to allocate some SkypeCredit, by clicking View profile next to the name of the Profile to which he wantsto allocate credit, then clicking the Outgoing calls row. The following screen is

    displayed:

  • 8/6/2019 Skype Connect User Guide

    39/45

Page 39 Skype Connect User Guide

    6. He allocates 10 Skype Credit from Skype Manager, sets up Auto-recharge, andclicks Add credit. The Skype Credit allocated is displayed in the Outgoing callsrow:

The effect of having two separate SIP Proles for Sales and Engineering is thathe can monitor and control their expenditure independently of each other akey objective for him in our example, and a core benet for you in your business.

    7. Administrator Claude Morel now associates the business account 'Architects.Engineering' to the new SIP Profile. He does this by clicking Add a numberor business account and entering its name in the Add an existing businessaccount field in the Add business account tab. He also enters the Engineeringteam's extension number in the Extension number field and clicks Confirm:

This means that Skype calls to the business account Skype Name Architects.Engineering will be received in their SIP-enabled PBX, forwarded directly to theirextension. They may also use this Skype Name to create Skype button; calls to

which using Skype would also be received in their SIP-enabled PBX and forwardedto their extension.

    4

  • 8/6/2019 Skype Connect User Guide

    40/45

Page 40 Skype Connect User Guide

    8. Administrator Claude Morel now allocates a new Online Number to theEngineering.Architects SIP Profile. He does this by clicking Add a number orbusiness account, then clicking Buy a new number. By completing the purchaseof the Online Number, it is assigned to the SIP Profile:

This means that the Engineering team can now be reached on +1 773 572 9053 fromlandlines or mobile phones, as well as by the Skype Name 'Architects.Engineering'(Skype-to-Skype or via a Skype button).

    9. Hiroshi Tanaka is the Structural Engineer. He has left on paternity leave for9 months and while he is away, calls to him need to be re-directed to theEngineering team. Administrator Claude Morel therefore adds Hiroshi Tanakasbusiness account to the Engineering.Architects SIP Profile to achieve this:

  • 8/6/2019 Skype Connect User Guide

    41/45

Page 41 Skype Connect User Guide

Now, crucially to our explanation of Skype Connect and DIDs, Hiroshi Tanaka'sbusiness account has an Online Number assigned to it, as this screen shows:

As a result of adding his business account to the Engineering.Architects SIPProle and, separately, assigning an Online Number to the same SIP Prole

directly, there are now two Online Numbers that will be directed to the same SIPProle.

Because Skype passes details of the called number to the PBX, the SIP-enabledPBX is able to see which recipient the call is meant for, even though they are onthe same SIP Prole. The SIP-enabled PBX then directs the call according to howit is congured to direct calls to that number.

You can see that by adding Online Numbers to a SIP Prole, DID-like functionalitycan be achieved.

10.0 Important Dos and DontsAll of the following dos and donts may be found elsewhere in this guide, in the relevantsection. Listed here, they may be a useful summary to help you avoid making mistakeswhen setting up and administering Skype Connect in your business.

    10.1 General

To use Skype Connect, access to a broadband internet connection is required.Skype is not a replacement for traditional telephone services and cannot beused for emergency calling. Skype Connect is meant to complement existingtraditional telephone services used with a corporate PBX, it is not a stand-alonesolution. Skype Connect users need to ensure all calls to emergency servicesare terminated through traditional telephone services.

To help you set up and administer Skype for Business products, we haveproduced extensive user guides and troubleshooting documentation. These canbe found at support.skype.com.

Online Numbers are provided as is and their ongoing availability to you issubject to applicable local residency rules and regulatory practices. The termsrelated to Online Numbers may change accordingly, such changes may includethe imposition or amendment of local residency requirements and/or require

you to provide further user information for continued access to defined OnlineNumbers. Such changes may impact on your ability to use, purchase andallocate Online Numbers in the future. The terms that relate to Online Numbersare clearly displayed within the Online Number purchase flow and you need toagree to these prior to proceeding to purchase Online Numbers.

    10.2 Registering for Skype Manager

Before you start, check whether anyone else in your organization has already

    registered as an administrator.

Skype does not recommend that the Skype Manager account is administeredusing any employees own personal Skype account details.

Skype does recommend that the person in your business who will administerSkype Credit and manage business accounts create a new Skype account onbehalf of the business for registering for Skype Manager.

Skype suggests creating a Skype Name such as 'Company.Admin to reect thefact the account is for administering Skype within the business.

Please see 4.0 Registering for Skype Manager.

    10.3 Creating a SIP Prole

Immediately on creating a SIP Prole, test its credentials by entering theminto your SIP-enabled PBX and placing an echo test call. For more information,

please see your PBX manufacturer's support documentation. Please see 6.0 Creating a SIP Profile.

    10.4 Business accounts

A business account may only be associated with one SIP Prole. Allocation of abusiness account to more than one SIP Prole will result in incoming calls notbeing received. This is because Skype Connect cannot determine to which SIPProle any given call should be directed.

If a Skype business account is assigned to a SIP Prole it cannot be used tosign in to Skype on your computer or any other device. It needs to be one or theother.

Please see7.7 Setting up a SIP Profile for incoming calling using business accounts.

    10.5 Skype Credit

To avoid loss of connectivity, you must maintain sufcient Skype Credit in your

Skype Manager. Skype recommends use of the Auto-recharge facility for SkypeManager. To avoid the loss of outgoing calling capability that will occur shoulda SIP Prole run out of Skype Credit, Skype also recommends the use of Auto-recharge for SIP Proles. For more information on Skype Credit, please see theSkype Manager User Guide.

Please see 7.4 Allocating Skype Credit for outgoing calling.

    10.6 Deleting SIP Proles

    Deleting a SIP Prole causes:

Remaining Skype Credit allocated to that SIP Prole to be returned to SkypeManager.

Online Numbers to be returned to Skype Manager for reallocation.

    Call history to be lost.

10.7 Changing your SIP Prole password

The SIP Prole password is used by your SIP-enabled PBX to connect to Skype. On changing the password for a SIP Prole in Skype Manager, your PBX willnot be automatically disconnected by Skype. It is, however, vital that the new

password is also updated in the SIP-enabled PBXs conguration before the nexttime the PBX needs to re-register with Skype.

If the new Skype Connect password is not updated in your SIP-enabled PBXconguration, your PBX will be unable to connect to Skype the next time that ittries to re-register, resulting in the loss of any outgoing calling. Incoming calls,if set up, will also not be received in your SIP-enabled PBX unless the Skype

Connect password is updated in your PBX.

The frequency with which registration refreshes between your SIP-enabled PBX

and Skype is a PBX setting.

Skype recommends that SIP Prole password changes are coordinated with, orby, your IT department, or by whoever is responsible for the administration ofyour SIP-enabled PBX equipment.

Skype also recommends that the process for changing a Skype Connectpassword in your business is added to your companys existing process andprotocol documentation.
