Page 3: Sl4.2 Seerah of the Prophet Muhammed (sws)

• We as Muslims don’t believe the bricks ofKaba that are holy or the black covering or the tiled floors

• For us, the place is whats holy• Many people don’t realize that the

Kaba is rebuilt every few years. It is a building/structure like any other building/structure.

• There is nothing holy about the Kaba, it is the area that is sacred

• The people of Makkah at the time did not realize this. They would worship the bricks.

Page 4: Sl4.2 Seerah of the Prophet Muhammed (sws)

• The people were not sincere in their worship of the rocks/bricks either

• Many Muslims even today worship graves

• Idols were in different shapes and sizes, some were humans, some animals, most were humanoidà a little bit of human and a little bit of animal

• Quraish had the theology that Allah had daughter and the angels are the daughters

• They would worship the angels as daughters of Allah

Page 5: Sl4.2 Seerah of the Prophet Muhammed (sws)

• Idol-worshippers à they don’t have a creed, no unified creed ex. Hinduism

• Same for the Arabs, they had no unified creed but the one thing that they agreed upon was that they needed to worship the idols to get closer to Allah(swt). There were exceptions.

• There were a handful of people called Hanif (which means turning away from Shirk and turning to Allah(swt)

• One of Hanif was Kus ibn Siyad.• Kus ibn Sayyida à not from Quraish, bani Iyyad. He was an old man when the Prophet met him as a young man. Kus would come to the Kaba for the Hajj. Then he would preach against idolatry. He was very well-spoken. He was very close to the deen.

• The most important 4 Hunafa was:– 1. Waraqah ibn Nawfal ibn Asad

(cousins w/ Khadija around 40 yrs older)

– 3. Zaid ibn Amer– 4. Uthman ibn Huwairish

• They all left Makkah for a while searching for the truth

• As far as Waraqah goes, he converted to Christianity
