Small Wind Turbine

Understanding Wind Energy Wind Energy in India has grown tremendously over the last two decades. As a result of this boom, the wind

potential in most major wind sites has been tapped and a point of saturation has been reached. Presently

setting up a wind farm to harvest energy from wind requires huge capital investment and involves a rat race

for wind rich land. This has led to a situation where only large players operate and benefit from technological

advancements in this sector.

Vaata’s dream Mother nature never meant for her bounties to benefit only the rich. This is where Vaata dared to dream to

create a small wind turbine that will benefit the common man, especially the farmers. A wind turbine that will

be able to perform across varied terrains, even on a small piece of land; one that will be a meaningful

advancement in the wind energy sector and will be able to touch millions of lives.

The small wind turbine SMART has been designed entirely in India,

utilizing state of the art computing, design and

manufacturing technology.

The turbine is running in both Kavanoor and

Karungulam sites in Tamil Nadu and has shown

great promise.

SMART has been designed for low maintenance

and long life

SMART can also operate in areas with low wind

speeds

The farmer and rooftop model of SMART enables

localized power generation that can reduce

wheeling losses and help reduce the pressure

from the state’s electricity board.

Following our dream, we have indigenously

developed “SMALL ART”, shortly known as SMART,

a work of art that encompasses the science of wind

energy. It is a small wind turbine that will

empower the common man to generate his own

energy through its 3 models:

Farmer model: for the lakhs of farmers

around the country who already have the

wind rich land

Rooftop model: for tall buildings in coastal

areas of the country

Infill model: To maximize the usage of land

by installing small turbines in the large

unused space between 2 larger turbines

Specification

Turbine Orientation Vertical Axis

Rated Power 15 kW

Rotor Diameter 10.1 m

Rotor Height 9.6 m

Rated Wind Speed (Cut In Wind Speed)

12 m/s (4.5 m/s)

Total Height (Tower) 15 m (6 m)

Total weight 2.4 ton (ground models) 1.5 ton (rooftop model)

One Wind Turbine for all places

SMART’s three versions will cater to the energy needs of people across all the places that have potential to

generate wind energy. It will be the solution to urban, off-shore, rural and power-plant scale generation of

wind energy.
