Every morning in March, Bobby and Lindy brought you their daily FOURPLAY. They identified four songs, played a montage with a short snippet of each song and asked listeners to listen out for them throughout the day on Smile 90.4FM.

Every time one of the four songs played there was an opportunity for listeners to win a ticket and gain a “one in 60” entry into the draw to win a brand new VW Polo Citi Vivo at McCarthy VW Parow on the 31st March.

FourPlay Mall activations were used to create awareness around this campaign. Promoters handed out leaflets encouraging people to tune into Smile 90.4FM for the weeks to come, enter the competition through a wild card opportunity, and immerse themselves in a Smile 90.4FM brand experience by performing their best rendition of 80’s hits in the Smile 90.4FM karaoke booth.

An outdoor broadcast was held at the final draw, where we experienced the elimination of the 59 contests live on air! You could cut the tension with a knife! Congratulations to Dirkie Nel...who won the VW Polo City Vivo from McCarthy Volkswagen Parow valued at R 180 000. Enjoy your new ride!

Cape Town Cycle Tour 12 March 2017

Smile 90.4FM entered a team of 31 riders in this year’s iconic Cape Town Cycle Tour.

On Friday the 10th March, cyclists and their families were welcomed to the Smile 90.4FM studios for an informal cocktail evening. Each team member received a Smile 90.4FM ‘Cycle Tour Survival Kit’ consisting of a branded Smile 90.4FM cycling top and bandana, Ride magazine, 32GI energy supplements, Falke socks and arm protectors and a copy of the Exclusive Cape Town Cycle Tours 40th Anniversary book.

Smile 90.4FM set up a vibe point in Sea Point, but unfortunately due to adverse weather conditions the Cape Town Cycle tour was cancelled for the first time in the 40-year history of the race.

Despite the disappointment of the cancellation of the race, the Smile 90.4FM team had a fun-filled weekend.

Smile 90.4FM… the official radio partner to the Junior Cycle Tour

Smile 90.4FM partnered with the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust for the second year in a row.

Smile 90.4FM presenters Lindy Hibbard and Gavin Arends, together with the Smile Ranger; created the perfect atmosphere at the Junior Cycle Tour that took place at Cape Town Stadium Precinct on Sunday, 5 March 2017.

The Smile 90.4FM team made sure that all the little superheroes had lots of fun; while Smile 90.4FM’s feel good mix of music provided the perfect soundtrack to the family fun day.

Supporters relaxing in the ‘race village’ were hosted by Smile 90.4FM presenter, Morné Esben, and were treated to loads of entertainment and lucky prize draws throughout the day.

Intermedia Cricket Challenge

for sport and education bursaries for the natural talent and flair players identified through Sporting Chance’s sport programmes, such as Calypso, Street Cricket and Street Soccer.

The event has continued to grow over the years and has become extremely popular amongst the media. Teams from the local media organisations: print, radio, television and digital – compete for the coveted Inter Media trophy.

The event is a great social occasion for the players and spectators with action both on and off the field. There is always good banter with lots of laughs and plenty of professional camaraderie.

Date For Dadwould be interested in meeting Melissa’s Dad – all they had to do was send us a picture and tell us more about themselves.

Three lucky ladies – Miss A, Miss B and Miss C – were selected, by the Cupid Committee (which comprised of Hugh’s daughter, sister in law and colleague). They were introduced to our listeners and to Hugh, Melissa’s Dad.

On the 16th Feb, the BIG MOMENT finally arrived…who will be Hugh’s date? Hugh selected Miss A, Heidi Clark.

Hugh and Heidi were treated to a new wardrobe with compliments of Zando and mini makeover before being chauffeured to Beluga. It was evident that the couple hit it off right from the go.

On Friday the 3rd February we received an email from a young listener Melissa, who told us about her amazing dad. Her mom passed away two years ago and dad is working really hard to support his three daughters aged 14, 16 and 19. She told us that there is no time for her dad to socialise and meet someone and

asked if we could help to find a date for her dad for Valentine’s day.

Cape Town clients, listeners and 20 staff were invited to “The Michael Jackson History Show” on 25th January 2017 at the Artscape.

Johannesburg

Johannesburg clients were invited to “The Michael Jackson History Show” on 3rd February at the Theatre of Marcellus at Emperors Palace.Clients and listeners were treated to pre-drinks and snacks before the show and were given the opportunity to mingle with Smile 90.4FM presenters, Maurice and Bailey.

After the success of “Date for Dad”, Bobby and Lindy fancied themselves quite the matchmakers. They received so many messages and calls from single Capetonians that they thought Smile 90.4FM needed to set up a Speed Dating event – at the Smile studios. This would be a great, fun and safe platform for people to meet other professionals.

On Friday 24th February, 17 single listeners partook in our first ever speed dating session. Participants had 3 minutes to share as much information about themselves during their one on ones.

Before and after the event listeners had the opportunity to relax and chat with one another whilst enjoying some food and drinks.

Smile 90.4FM congratulates their first on-air MommySmile 90.4FM’s afternoon drive-time show co-presenter Bailey Schneider announced early January that she is expecting her first child on the 5th July.

Smile 90.4FM cannot wait to meet their first on-air baby and are delighted that Bailey has chosen to share her journey with our listeners. Maurice Carpede, Smile 90.4FM Drive’s co-presenter, is absolutely thrilled at the thought of the Drive show having a new little “mascot”. “I am looking forward to changing diapers in the corner of the studio.” commented Maurice.

Bailey and her husband, international DJ Socrates Georgiades (DJ Sox), are overjoyed with the news of her pregnancy and are excited to welcome their precious baby boy in early winter. “I’ve been overwhelmed with how kind everyone has been, not only from the listeners, but also to have the company I work for being so excited and supportive is incredible. This little boy is already so loved and I cannot wait to meet him!” expressed Bailey.

Congratulations to Bailey and Sox, we look forward to meeting the new addition to your (our) family!

Ewan relocated from Johannesburg to Cape Town in 2001. He modelled for the better half of ten years, of which four years were spent modelling abroad, before deciding to settle back in Cape Town and focus on motivating and inspiring people to change their lifestyles as a qualified Personal Fitness Trainer.

Ewan was a finalist in the Men’s Health Look 2008 model search competition. After

appearing on the Men’s Health cover he made his debut as a TV presenter on the M-Net magazine show All Access! After 2 years with M-Net Ewan moved to the Expresso Morning Show on SABC3.

In 2017 Ewan entered the radio industry with Smile 90.4FM hosting the morning show

Smile Breakfast Santa Hampa Giveaway with Bobby & Lindy

The Festive Season is a time when family and friends come together to celebrate and share in the spirit of giving. But that is not the case for everyone.

Listeners were asked to nominate someone who couldn’t afford a special Christmas lunch, who may be alone over Christmas or who deserved to be treated to a SPAR sponsored Smile Santa Hampa full of festive goodness.

Their stories were shared on Smile Breakfast and 100 Smile Santa Hampas were given away.

Stellenbosch Cycle TourSmile 90.4FM was at the Stellenbosch Cycle Tour, in December 2016, for the 2nd year. The Stellenbosch Cycle Tour is an annual cycling event run by the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust (CTCTT). This event has 7500 participants and is one of the more aspirational cycling events on the cycling calendars.

We had a dedicated Smile 90.4FM area in the race village which included our arch and branding. Morné Esben was the announcer at the start of the race with Gavin Arends taking over as MC of the race village – creating a great vibe.

Tussen Die SterreSmile 90.4FM partnered with Spar for yet another Tussen Die Sterre concert at the Taalmonument on Saturday 10th December 2016. Concert goers got to see some of the country’s best Afrikaans musicians; namely Francois Van Coke, Karen Zoid and ADAM; live under the stars, with Bobby and Lindy as their Masters of Ceremonies.
