Snapshot Week 4 Term 4
Friday 6 November 2020
Chromebook Secondhand Sale
As many of our students are leaving Rose Park Primary School at the
end of the year, we are hoping to support the school community
with a 'Second-hand Chromebook Sale'. While the school is not
directly involved in the sale/ purchase of the Chromebooks, we can
connect buyers and sellers, by creating a list of families wanting to
sell, and passing on details to those wanting to buy.
If you are considering selling your Chromebook, please complete the following Google
Form:
https://forms.gle/zWv4HTmpdFgoS2bh7
Each device must have a charger, and be undamaged, in good working order.
Scratch
Recently our students have deleted their school Scratch accounts due to concerns raised
regarding online safety and security. As Scratch is an online learning community, it allows
users to share work with other members, along with receive 'comments', 'likes' and 'followers'
for projects shared. While we have not had any issues of concern, it has been decided to
investigate other options to the continued use of Scratch, and we will work with the
Department for Education in devising a Risk Management plan. We are aware that many
students have Scratch accounts using their private email accounts. You may like to discuss
this as a family.

Band Workshop & Performance
Combined Rose Park PS – Marryatville HS Junior
Band Workshop/Performance
The Rose Park Primary School Concert Band was
fortunate to host the Marryatville Junior Concert
Band on Wednesday 4th November, for a workshop
and performance to the Rose Park students and
staff. The two bands combined to form a 50+ strong
concert band, and workshopped Pokemon Theme
and Legend of Tizona (The Sword of El Cid).
Most of the Rose Park band students indicated that they had not heard a bassoon played
live before, and were also able to hear the pieces they had been working on during the year
with a much fuller band sound, including tuba and French horn.
The Marryatville band ably assisted the Rose Park PS Band to perform a couple of the harder
charts that they had yet to perform, including Captain Marvel, Pokemon and Wind Dances.
Conducting the Band during the workshop and performance were Marryatville teacher Ryan
Gerlach and Instrumental Music teacher Peter Young. Aaron Lipp, who has been co-
directing the Rose Park Concert Band also assisted, providing valuable support and tenor
saxophone playing. Also in attendance were music teachers Jasmine Fennelly and Kate
Brown from Marryatville HS, and Janet Parkinson (Rose Park music teacher). Janet
commented on the constant smiles on the faces of the students involved during the process.
The Rose Park students got to hear the Marryatville band students perform a more elaborate
arrangement of the Avengers Theme, than the one they have been working on.
Due to Covid restrictions this year, the Rose Park Concert Band missed their usual Winter
Concert, so the workshop/performance provided a great outlet and celebration of the Rose
Park students’ talents and efforts. The concert was well supported by the students, staff and
leaders at Rose Park, and the band was thrilled to be able to play to a ‘full house’ of upper
primary students. Thanks to all involved.

Parents & Friends News
Second Hand Uniform Stall -Due to survey feedback, the P&F will be holding a 2nd Hand
Uniform stall on Friday 27th November at the new time of 8:30am until 10:00am. We will be
under the trees near the Potts building. EFTPOS available! Donations would be wonderful but
if you still need those uniforms for the last few weeks don’t worry as we will be holding
another sale early in Term 1.
Lost Property - P&F will begin to sort and return lost property to students over the next few
weeks. We will also be providing the school community with a lost property table. This will be
on display all day on Friday 27th November. Please note that any (unnamed) uniform
uncollected by the end of the day will be sold as 2nd hand uniform next year.
Can you sew? - After viewing the sale of 2nd Hand Uniform we have some unsellable items of
clothing. We would love to see these made into scrunchies and sold in the 2nd hand uniform
sale. Anyone with sewing skills and the desire to help out please email us at:
[email protected] and will get some fabric to you.
IBPYP Update - Year 2
Transdisciplinary Theme: How we express
ourselves
Central Idea: Art forms are experienced and
created by people around the world
Year 2 classes have been exploring Indigenous
art. Tony Straccia and Coral Hayes Pananka
were invited to share their knowledge of the
symbols used by Indigenous artists. We painted
using dots and symbols to represent our own
families.
Transdisciplinary Theme: How we organise
ourselves
Central Idea: Transport Systems connect our
communities and use forces to move
Our Funky Nature Play experience tied in
well with our current Unit of Inquiry. We
experimented and built with branches, rope,
go-kart tyres, tarpaulins, rocks, fossils, barrels,
crates, pallets, mud, tyre tread and nets. We
used these materials to make different
structures, including a jail, jungle gym, go-
kart and houses. We loved being
courageous and experimenting with forces.
Book Week 2021
We enjoyed dressing up for Book Week as
characters from books as well as dressing to
the theme ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’.
It was a wild day!
