For healthcare environments the ethos is to design and install innovative healthcare furniture which improves the patient, visitor and staff experience, creating environments which help to deliver world-class care. Our expertise and resources are in place to deliver rolling installations for large NHS Hospitals, to state-of-the-art new builds and smaller bespoke programmes.

We look at how users sit, recline and move and how we can meet the needs of caring professionals. Only then do our Design and Development team start the design process.

We create designs which not only enhance the environment, but are fit for purpose.

We look at Reducing and Reusing before we start thinking about Recycling.

These ‘Three Rs’ have a strong influence over our business from design and production right through to delivery. We’ve been carbon neutral since 2010.

Our eight rules for minimising impact on the environment:

RecyclingSustainability

Working alongside the Environment Agency we have created our own in-house recycling facility for old furniture, which is disassembled into components and segregated into waste streams for recycling - typically wood, metal, plastic, fabrics and foams. A certificate is issued to confirm recycling in an environmentally friendly manner.

Teal supply into a diverse range of healthcare environments, offering a one-stop solution to healthcare providers. We are one of the largest providers of Ward and Residential Furniture to the NHS and to some of the largest adult and children’s hospitals in the UK.

We help satisfy the rigors of clinical environments, promote patient dignity and contribute towards a therapeutic and healing patient environment. Innovative projects have included ‘dignified spaces’, a pioneering nature inspired project which incorporates dedicated spaces for conversations between clinical staff, carers and relatives.

We have installed healthcare furniture into many intermediate care settings, recognising this important transitional phase in many older people’s journeys of care. For paediatric care we have designed bespoke bedside lockers with distinctive new artworks, while the award winning Buddy day bed - winner ‘Best product for improving the patient experience’ has allowed family sleepovers in patient rooms.

Products such as the innovative, distinctively styled dementia friendly Velvare armchair have been installed at an award winning Dementia Resource Hub, helping to improve the environment of care for people with dementia.

We support care and rehabilitation for those with mental health issues, providing furniture for all environments, including CAMHS, older adults, learning disabilities, PICU, medium secure, eating disorders, autism, dementia and high security environments. Our anti-ligature, concealment free designs promote safe, positive environments which focus on treatment and recovery.

A redevelopment programme at Great Ormond Street Hospital helped create new facilities appropriate for world-class paediatric care and research. The Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity committed £84 million to the project, ensuring patients benefit from spacious, airy environments with distinctive new artworks, where staff can care for children and their families in safer, more comfortable environments. Teal equipped the new Premier Inn Clinical Building with its award winning Buddy day bed – ideal for family sleepovers in patient rooms. Teal worked closely with the Trust to develop enhanced infection control features. Similarly, the Cascade Monos bedside locker required high levels of infection control, which Cascade satisfied with its solid polymer construction and sealed joints. In this pioneering commission Teal co-ordinated the locker artwork to help create environments for children full of colour and intrigue.

Teal equipped Haven Court, South Tyneside’s £9m centre of excellence for joined-up care for older people with its styled, contemporary furniture and soft furnishings, helping to create an Inviting environment which enhances user experience.

The state-of-the-art hub, the largest of its kind in the country provides integrated health and social care services for the Borough’s older people, their carers and families. The 80-bed development provides a wide range of high quality support and care services, including residential, respite care, day and rehabilitation services, helping to improve the health and wellbeing of the community’s growing ageing population and the increasing numbers of people with dementia.

Case studies

Teal worked in close collaboration with key stakeholders at Morriston Hospital, as part of a £60m flagship hospital project at the Swansea site. Clinical staff, including Infection Control and Physio teams played a key role both in the design of the facilities and healthcare furniture, helping to ensure the environment supports the needs of both patients and services. New public waiting areas including main atrium, paediatrics, radiology and renal areas are equipped with ‘Adeo’ reception/atrium seating, designed to create a bright, contemporary and non clinical feel. This followed a 9-month trial, where the units were in daily use within the hospital.

- Many are stain resistant, waterproof and have anti-microbial, anti-fungal properties to help reduce the risk of healthcare associated infections.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Always follow the care and maintenance procedures specified by the fabric manufacturer.

For general guidance:- Clean and care for the fabric on a regular basis to maintain condition

and appearance. Most stains can be removed by wiping clean- Wipe clean regularly with a damp cloth to remove dust particles and

light soiling- Remove spillages promptly (within 15 minutes) with an absorbant

dry cloth- E cloths are recommended for general cleaning of upholstery.

Testing and Standards:All fabrics and vinyls pass BS5852 Ignition Source 5 or higher and BS7176 Medium Hazard. All foams are combustion modified high resilient fire retardant (CMHR).

Wood finishes

Furniture is manufactured in solid Beech or laminated Beech and is available in clear or a number of stained finishes. Standard finishes available on all solid timber chairs. Stains can be matched to customers own requirements. The original should be provided in this instance.
