Our priority is to ensure the health and safety of our entire school community.

▪ School Procedures:

▪ Our school strongly recommends the use of facial coverings for all students on campus while indoors. (A parent link with more details will be forthcoming.)

▪ We will keep our signs displaying COVID-19 information around our school.

▪ Parents must ensure they DO NOT send a child to school if they are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, awaiting results for anyone in the family exposed to an individual with COVID-19, or confirmed to have COVID-19.

▪ Sick at School Policy: If a child develops COVID-19 symptoms at school, they will be sent to a designated area. They will remain in isolation in the designated area until they are picked up from school.

▪ COVID-19 Reporting:

▪ If necessary, we will notify via Parent Link email when an individual tests positive in your child’s class.

▪ Contact tracing will be initiated to indicate any other individuals who may have been exposed.

▪ Close contacts will be notified separately and advised of the relevant protocols.

▪ Visitors Policy:

▪ Parents will not be allowed on campus during the instructional day unless scheduled.

▪ Parents must remain in their cars for during pick-up and drop-off.

▪ Somerset Academy Miramar has a zero tolerance policy regarding the use of cell phones and other electronic devices during school hours. Cell phones and other electronic devices (i.e., iPods, all portable gaming devices, tablets, and headphones) are not allowed to be used on school grounds. This includes smart watches (like Apple Watch, etc.).

▪ Please understand that cell phones must remain off while on campus and kept inside the book bag. If this policy is not followed, the cell phone will be confiscated by school personnel and kept in the main office until a parent comes to pick it up.

▪ In the event that a student inappropriately uses their electronic device or a school device on more than one occasion, the school reserves the right to confiscate the device until the last day before winter break or the last day of school.

▪ Due to the misuse of electronic devices on school grounds the staff will be diligent in enforcing this policy. We urge you and your child to discuss the implications of bringing electronic devices to school and the disruption that they may cause to the instructional environment.

▪ This school year, each of our classrooms will have a class set of laptops. There is no need for your child to bring their own device.

• Be on time to school every day!

• The maximum number of days that a student may be absent without acceptable documentation justifying the absence is 5.

• Unless acceptable documentation is submitted, an accumulation of daily absences (excused or unexcused), by tardiness, or early sign-outs that equals 5 days (30 hours) in a marking period or 10 days (60 hours) within two marking periods may establish a pattern of non-attendance.

• If the student exhibits a pattern of nonattendance, Principal will request documentation for absences. (F.S. 1003.24(4)) Non-attendance for instructional activities is established by tardiness, early-sign-outs, or absences for all or any part of the day.

• Excessive tardies and/or absences may prohibit re-registration.
