1. Engineering DesignCentral Concepts: Engineering design involves practical problem solving, research, development, and invention/innovation, and requires designing, drawing, building, testing, and redesigning. Students should demonstrate the ability to use the engineering design process to solve a problem or meet a challenge.
Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006
1.1 Identify and explain the steps of the engineering design process: identify the problem, research the problem, develop possible solutions, select the best possible solution(s), construct prototypes and/or models, test and evaluate, communicate the solutions, and redesign.

Step 1Identify the
problem
Write down the original problem here.Student - Design, build and program a robot to:
Push an opposing bot outside Of the ring or incapacitate it. This must Be done with limited resources but With a fairly large time period to workWith.

Step 2Research the
problem
Explore other options via the internetStudent: List the internet sites that were helpful.Site 1Mr. Croke’s Site.Site 2 YoutubeSite 3 NXTprograms.com
What did you learn from your research?A To make it powerful.B Needs to be heavier to be harder to push.C To have a sort of barrier to protect it.

Step 3Develop solutions BRAINSTORM
COLLABORATION
Student : Share your ideas with your design team. List your ideas below.
1.To have a robot that is geared to be slower but stronger.
2.To have a barrier that prevents our robot to be speared.
3. To have a robot that has enough power to push others.
Step 4Select the best
Possible solution(s)
Student: Describe which solution(s) best meet the need orsolve the problem. Describe exactly what idea or mixture of ideas your design team decided on for the first robot prototype? Use the next slide for your response.
Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006
The Somerset Berkley writing rubric will be used for assessment.
Student : Skillfully and imaginatively describe what your firstprototype will look like.
Our first prototype will be a regular 2 motor nxt core. It will be geared to be slower. This means we will put the smallestgear connected to a large gear. Even though our robot will bepainfully slow it will be guaranteed to push the other robots. Also it must have a small center of gravity. This will make it hard to flig. Finally it will have a barrier of sorts to have so it will be more protected. That’s what our robot will look like.
Step 5Construct a prototype
Build a robot with your NXT lego kitCreate a computer program for your robot.

Use the next slide(s) for the digital pictures of your prototypes and computer programs.

Step 5 evidence
Step 6Test and Evaluate
the solution(s)
1. Does your robot work? Yes2. Did it perform as expected? Yes3. What changes are necessary for the robot and the program?Stronger?4. Does it meet the original design constraints? Yes5. Is it safe? Yes6. Lab work- Modify your robot project and use the next slide to post a picture of your improved robot project.
