o HOW TO APPLY
Students need to : - be registered in a university which has partnership (s) with Paris-Sorbonne
(Paris IV), see the list on our website
- be selected by their own university to benefit from an exchange programme
- fill in an application form from Paris-Sorbonne (Paris IV) which can be downloaded from our website, and return it by post to the International Relations Division
- receive a letter of acceptance by e-mail or post. This document will allow students to get their student visa from the French Embassy in their country (or Centres pour les Etudes en France).
Within the framework of our agreements, we do not require any French level certificate. However students must have a good command of French, guaranteed by their home university, responsible for the selection of its students. French classes are available for foreign students who wish to follow them within the terms of our agreements. o CONTACTS

o TEST DE LANGUE FRANÇAISE OBLIGATOIRE Dans le cadre d’une inscription individuelle et dip lômante à l’Université Paris-Sorbonne (Paris IV), l’étudiant doit obligatoirement obtenir une attestation de réussite à un test de langue française. Les différentes attestations reconnues sont les suivantes :
If you are applying as an individual student , it is compulsory to obtain a certificate to confirm you have successfully passed a test in French. The certificates validated by Paris-Sorbonne (Paris IV) are the following :

o PRÉPARATION AUX DIPLÔMES / TRAINING FOR DIPLOMAS Le Cours de la Civilisation Française de la Sorbonne (CCFS) dispense des formations permettant l’obtention de diplômes reconnus au niveau national et, pour certains, international : The CCFS of the Sorbonne provides courses allowing students to obtain various degrees recognised in France, some of which are also recognised internationally.

o DIPLOMES DELIVRES PAR LE COURS DE CIVILISATION FRANÇAISE / DIPLOMAS AWARDED BY THE CCFS
A la fin de votre session d’études, le Cours de Civilisation Française vous délivrera un diplôme ou un certificat en fonction du cours suivi et des résultats obtenus (cf. site Internet). A final exam system is used to evaluate the work completed in each of the sessions. Depending on the level and the courses chosen, the CCFS awards the students a diploma (cf. the Internet website).
o SESSIONS
Prévoir les délais d’inscription une à trois semaines avant le début des cours. Semestre de Printemps : 4 mois de cours, de février à mai inclus. Session d’Eté : cours de 4 à 11 semaines, entre juin et octobre. Session d’Automne : 3 mois de cours, de septembre à décembre. Semestre d’Hiver : 4 mois de cours, d’octobre à janvier inclus.
Please note that registration will take place one to three weeks before the beginning of courses.
Spring semester : 4-month course, from February to May. Summer session : courses lasting 4-11 weeks, between June and October. Autumn semester : 3-month course, from September to December. Winter semester : 4-month course, from October to January.

o PRESENTATION Le SELFEE organise des examens de langue et littérature françaises pour les étudiants étrangers. o OVERVIEW The SELFEE is in charge of organizing tests of language and literature for foreign students. It also provides students with three different degrees (see the details below) but these tests take place abroad, in French Embassies, French Cultural Centres or in entitled universities (Paris-Sorbonne, Lyon, Nice, Lille, Grenoble, Bordeaux…). Sessions are planned throughout the academic year.

� Dossier d’Admission Préalable :
o retirer un formulaire entre le 1er décembre et le 15 janvier auprès du service culturel de l’Ambassade de France du pays d’origine ou auprès de l’université française si l’étudiant réside déjà en France et possède un titre de séjour d’une durée de validité de 1 an.
o Retour du dossier complet avant le 31 janvier. Pour les étudiants européens, les dossiers sont à r etirer de début mars à mi-juin et à retourner avant fin juin.
o Pour l’admission en Licence, une attestation de réussite à un test de langue française est obligatoire. Voir la fiche « Le Français à la Sorbonne ».
o Validation des diplômes (baccalauréats français passés à l’étranger dans des lycées
français et/ou diplômes étrangers) en mars. � Sont dispensés de cette procédure d’admission préal able et peuvent retirer un
dossier de validation de leurs acquis antérieurs : - les étudiants ressortissants de l’Union Européenne, - les titulaires du baccalauréat européen, franco-allemand, - les boursiers du gouvernement français, - les enfants de diplomates en poste à Paris, - les réfugiés politiques.
o Retrait des dossiers de validation : entre début mars et mi-juin o Dépôt : mi-juin
(Pour les candidats en 1e année de Licence L.E.A. : retrait du dossier entre début janvier et mi-mars, dépôt mi-mars.)
INSCRIPTION EN 3E ANNEE DE LICENCE
o Demande de validation des acquis possible pour les étudiants titulaires de diplômes universitaires étrangers correspondant à un minimum de quatre années d’études suivant le pays, en vue d’une inscription dans la discipline majeure étudiée.

o Dépôt : fin juin.

� Pre-application procedure (« Dossier d’Admission Pr éalable ») :
o Apply for a form (between December 1st and January 15th) either : with the Cultural Division of the French Embassy in your country or with the French university of your choice if you are already living in France and in possession of a one-year resident’s card. o Return the completed form by January 31 st.
European students can apply for a form from the beg inning of March to mid-June and return it by the end of June.
o To be accepted at Licence level, you will be required to produce a certificate to confirm that you have successfully passed a test in French . See document « Le Français à la Sorbonne ».
o Validation procedure for diploma(s) (French « baccalauréat » and / or foreign diplomas
taken abroad in French secondary schools) takes place in March.
� Some students can be exempted from this pre-applica tion procedure and can simply apply for a validation form if they are :
- European Union nationals, - Grant-holders (French government grants only), - the children of diplomats working in Paris, - political refugees, - or if they have passed the European or the French-German “baccalauréat”.
o These students can retrieve the validation forms : between the beginning of March and mid-
June. o To be returned : by mid-June.
(To students applying for the 1st year of Licence L.E.A. : they can obtain the form between the beginning of January and mid-March, to be returned by mid-March).
REGISTRATION AT 3RD YEAR LEVEL LICENCE
o Students wishing to pursue in the discipline they have been reading at their home university can ask for their diploma(s) to be validated (« Demande de validation des acquis ») by Paris-Sorbonne University (if their level corresponds to a minimum of 4 years, depending on the country they have been awarded in).
o They can ask for an application form : between the beginning of March and mid-June. The form can be downloaded from our website www.paris-sorbonne.fr (from March onwards).
o To be returned : by the end of June.

o COTUTELLE DE THESE
- Chaque cotutelle de thèse se déroule obligatoirement dans le cadre d’une convention liant les deux établissements intéressés (Paris-Sorbonne et l’Université étrangère partenaire) et impliquant un principe de réciprocité.
- La demande d’admission en cotutelle de thèse doit obligatoirement se faire en 1ère année de Doctorat.
- Les travaux s’effectuent sous le contrôle et la responsabilité d’un directeur de thèse dans chacun des deux pays.
- La période passée dans un des deux pays ne doit pas être inférieure à 30%, soit un an. L’inscription administrative se fait dans les deux établissements concernés. Mais l’inscription doit être exonérée de droits dans l’un des deux établissements.
- La thèse donne lieu à une soutenance unique reconnue par les deux établissements intéressés. Le titre de Docteur est décerné conjointement par les deux établissements partenaires.

o The Joint Supervision of Doctorates (or PhD)
- Joint supervision of doctorates must take place within the framework of a mutual agreement between the two universities (Paris-Sorbonne and the foreign partner).
- Application for a joint supervision of doctorates is equivalent to a first application for a doctorate thesis. It cannot be made before a first application for a first year of doctorate.
- The student must be supervised by a director (« directeur de thèse ») in both countries.
- Students are required to spend at least 30%, i.e. one year, studying in each country involved. They must register in both universities. However, students only have to pay registration fees in one of the two universities.
- The thesis leads to one viva, officialised by both the host and the home university. Students will then be awarded the title of “Doctor” attributed by Paris-Sorbonne University as well as the foreign partner.
