The Needlewomen
Project
The Needlewomen group began in May 2012, as a bonding activity in the Club as also for members to share their embroidery skills.
We set a target to make a Soroptimist Banner for the 3rd Charter anniversary in Feb 2013. All members added a stitch on the banner -a case of true bonding.
At the Anniversary the Banner was presented and all Soroptimists guests were asked to add a stitch – a Stitch of Friendship
.
More Stitches of Friendship continued
Feb 2014
March 2013
The activity was converted into a project- Dresses for Little Girls – 100 dresses were made and sent to our Friendship Link Club SI East Grinstead in the UK for Charities
The next step for Needlewomen was when Rohini Khare a Club member designed shopping bags. These were light and reusable thus minimizing the use of plastic. The making of the bags would give temporary employment to some women who could stitch. So far 250 such bags with the Club name on it have been sold or gifted to visitors.
Then came the order from the Soroptimists of Iceland. An NGO was identified and the women there helped to make 350 bags for the order.
A mini mountain of blue bags!
Club members help to pack the bags for dispatch to Iceland.
