SRC

What a busy week for the SRC!

Blue Bow Day –

Last Friday most of

our school dressed in blue to raise

awareness for Anti-Bullying and Chloe’s Law. Blue bows and

blue wrist bands helped reinforce the message that help is available to anyone

struggling to cope with bullying. Lydia, Falyn and Meagan addressed the assembly and showed a powerful video

presentation hoping to change attitudes and behaviour.

Planning Day – A

joint SLIKK and SRC planning day was

held on Friday. This was very productive

with many new initiatives being offered to improve

our school. We look forward to all these

great ideas being put into action. Each year group then ran

team building activities for the whole group.

Schools Spectacular 2013

This year we celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the Schools Spectacular.

The Schools Spectacular is a world-class arena production and one of the largest

annual events of its calibre in the world. In brief, Schools Spectacular has taken place annually at the Sydney

Entertainment Centre since 1984 and the event includes approximately 3,600

students from over 400 NSW public schools. It delivers outstanding cutting-edge dance and musical performances.

South Grafton High School has been involved in the event for many years and

this year we have three groups performing. We have 10 students in the Aboriginal Dance Ensemble, 13 students

in the Combined Dance Group, and Dunbè African Drumming will be part of the foyer

entertainment. The students have left this week for Sydney to engage in three days of

rehearsal, followed by four performances. The exciting news is that the event will be

televised nationally on: ‘CHANNEL 9’ on Saturday 30 November 2013 with a replay on ‘GO’ – Sunday 1 December 2013.

Good luck to all the South Grafton High School students involved.

Dunbè off to School Spectacular

Dunbè members are getting excited for this weekend’s Schools Spectacular. They

have been working hard all year and are very dedicated. On 29 November 2013

they will be heading to Sydney to show off their musical skills and talent. We wish them safe travel and enjoyment of their

time participating in this great event.

cybersmart.gov.au

If anyone in the photo is under 18 they may be committing a crime. Viewing it or sending it to others may also be a crime.

If the image/video has been posted online, contact the site administrator and ask them to remove it. It is normal to feel sick/angry/worried but it is most important to focus on the facts and delete the image/video to the greatest extent possible.

Ask the school to help track who might have the image and where it might be posted. Ask them to provide support to your child and others involved.

Sexting is not uncommon behaviour and your child is not alone in being negatively impacted. Rather than adding to the distress, implement clear consequences for your child instead. E.g., limited phone/internet use.

Help them stay connected to friends online and offline for support. Ask an adult you trust to check how they are doing and help them manage peer reactions.

Sexting is the sending of provocative or sexual photos, images, messages or videos using a mobile phone, via email or posting online. Young people often consider sexting as a way of connecting in a relationship.

Cybersmart has developed information for parents to help manage sexting:

If you or someone you know wants to talk about sexting or have been negatively impacted by sexting , visit the Cybersmart Online Helpline (www.cybersmart.gov.au/report.aspx) or call Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800.
