PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Parents:

Two months! Just two months! It is hard to believe all that can happen in just two months. Our freshmen class was welcomed with great fanfare. Our senior mentors gave up their last summer day to make the freshmen feel welcomed. When our upper class members arrived the next day, South River High School was off and running. Although there were a few opening bumps in the road, our students and faculty absorbed them with little disruption to instruction. The positive atmosphere existing at our school is noticeable to all who enter our building. I attribute much of this to the culture the staff and students have created to-gether. Everything we do is based upon the foundation of healthy relationships. As always, our students are actively involved in service projects. The Harvest for the Hungry Campaign is one of our biggest fall events. Our students wore pink for the American Cancer Society and put on orange for Unity Day. Parent and community support has been outstanding so far this year. Seven South River stu-dents received commended recognition from the National Merit Scholarship program. They are: Caroline V. Anderson Ryan E. McLellan Shayne Biagi Hannah K. Murry Daniel DeRycke James D. Sappington Katie L. Ko

Also to be congratulated are our October Students of the Month: Belen Mauricio Gonzalez—ESOL Dept. Emma Jones—Genera Studies MaKayla Bridges-Science Dept. Jefferson Hirshman—Art Dept. Owen Abbey—GCPA Dept. Natoyla Barber—Computer Sci. Dept. Hope Cleary—Math Dept. Caitlyn Houck—FACS Dept. Sophia Michalski-Cooper—PE Dept. Ben Richardson—Foreign Lang. Dept. Toni Titow—English Dept. Dustin Tripp—AVID Dept. Daniel DeRycke—STEM Dept. One last piece of good news. After forty years, our gym is finally going to receive air conditioning. Contractors have been looking at the specifications and are in the process of submitting bids for the project. Many thanks must go to our PTSO for their continued promo-tion of this project. Sincerely, William T. Myers Principal

SOUTH RIVER HIGH SCHOOL Is excited to present

THE SRHS PARENT EVENING

SPEAKER SERIES PROGRAM The program offers parents the opportunity to gain insights and

information on topics of interest in addition to topics as they

relate to AACPS, South River High School, and the community.

The third presentation in the series will be held:

DATE: WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2018

LOCATION: SOUTH RIVER HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM

TIME: 6:30 P.M. – 8:30 P.M.

TOPIC: PREPARING YOUR TEEN TO RESPONSIBLY

MANAGE PERSONAL FINANCES

This is an incredibly important subject that can be difficult to

help teens understand. As your child moves toward young

adulthood, either off to work, off to college, off to the military,

or off to another endeavor, he/she needs to take responsibility

for his/her financial stability. South River High is extremely

lucky to have one of our parents, and PTSO President Ms. Lisa

O’Hagan, who works in the finance field will be the presenter.

Her experience and advice can be helpful for any parent when

dealing with this topic. In fact, bring your teen with you! Mark

your calendar, and your teen’s, to attend this important topic.

We look forward to seeing you there.
