April Highlights – Submitted by May Lukens

The AANAPISI interim report to the Department of Education was submitted on April 23rd. This is our report to the US Depatment of Education Institutional Development and Undergraduate Education Service to demonstrate substantial progress toward meeting the objectives of our project. Due to the work of many, we are able to highlight the progress that contributes towards the objectives of the AANAPISI Grant, including:

• Piloting of the modified Transition Portfolio.

• Offering culturally-relevant transition workshops.

• Development of Clustered Learning Communities – the first will be offered this Fall.

• Approval of the Asian Pacific Islander (API) Studies Emphasis degree.

• Approval of the Associate in Elementary Education (AEE) degree – offering pathways to teachers.

• Offerings of two courses under the new API Studies Emphasis.

• Development of a series of college success videos.

• Design of the new virtual Asian American Pacific Islander Higher Education Resource Center (AAPIHERC) website – which will serve as a repository of resources related to Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI).

Congratulations to everyone at South for your contributions to improve the retention, transfer, and graduation rates of underserved AAPI students – which will make a substantial contribution to the higher education resources of the nation!
