    History

    n 1956, Southern Athens Hospital was first

    clinic called Athens Clinic lead by the Athenian

    Filipino nurse Lorie May Guillang, and her

    fellow nurses Yves Torrejos, Sarah Angeles,

    Mary Lei Batan, Jake Rapay and Jonafe Morales,

    located at San Marcelino Street.

    Lorie May Guillang was overcome with the

    desire to create a world class integrated healthcare

    delivery system in Philippines, entailing the finest medical skills combined with compassionate patient

    care. With that, Southern Athens Hospital was established.

    Southern Athens Hospital moved to Pasay, City on the year

    1970, to a plot and that was chosen by renowned landscape Architect

    Frederick Law Olmsted.

    As late as 1990, Sothern Athens Hospital was a self-sustaining

    community, and establishes quality care to patients even until today.

    Southern Athens Hospital is a tertiary hospital located at

    Macapagal Road Pasay, City (near Mall of Asia) that has a 300 bed capacity and has 5 story that contains

    high technology medical equipments, laboratory and diagnostic facilities. It has special areas and

    specialties.

    The Southern Athens Hospital Logo defines our commitment to patient care. The logo reflects our

    endeavor to achieve excellence in healthcare delivery system by bringing together the best of

    Job Description

    Chief NurseA chief nurse is a part of the administrative or executive staff at a hospital or other

    medical center. They advance to this position of great responsibility after exceptionalservice as a registered nurse.

    Duties:

    The chief nurse is responsible for mentoring and supervising the activities of RNs on her

    staff.

    Manage the operations of her nurse unit, develop strategies for making her unit more

    efficient and evaluate methods to improve the quality of patient care.

    Training and Skills:

    A chief nurse must complete a bachelor's or associate's degree or earn an in-hospitaldiploma to become registered, and then work in a hospital setting for at least three to

    five years.

    Must have a caring and understanding nature and also have impeccable supervision

    skills.

    Assistant Chief Nurse

    Responsibilities:

    Assist the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in providing leadership to nurse employees thatwill enroll their support, create ownership of goals, and have them actively participate

    in decisions that impact the hospital.

    Assist the CNO in maintaining necessary regulatory and compliance approvals and

    quality accreditations.

    Partnering with physicians who use, or will use, the hospital.

    Assisting in planning new services that generate additional sources of profitable

    Head NurseRegistered nurses provide patient care in hospitals and health-care facilities. Nurses can

    advance to a supervisory position and work in hospital administration directing the work

    of other staff nurses. The head nurse or nursing supervisor monitors the work of other

    nurses and ensures that patients receive proper care. The nurse in a supervisor position

    performs nursing duties along with the additional administrative duties.

    Functions:

    The head nurse coordinates the activities of the nursing staff in patient areas.

    The supervising nurse is responsible for the training and scheduling of nurses in the

    patient area that she supervises.

    Head nurses work with department heads in other areas of the health-care facility to

    provide nursing assistance and staff when needed.

    Job Duties:

    The head nurse assigns duties to staff nurses and develops work schedules to ensure

    that patient areas have a full staff.

    Nursing supervisors monitor the work performed by staff nurses to ensure that

    physician instructions are carried out and that patients receive proper care. Nurses

    receive evaluations from the nursing supervisor on their performance. A head nursemay perform the orientation and training of new staff members in the patient area.

    The head nurse performs inspections of patient rooms and areas to ensure hospital

    personnel maintain cleanliness standards. Lead nurses order supplies for the patient

    area such as drugs, equipment and medical supplies or directs the activities of workers

    responsible for ordering materials. This includes maintenance of drug records for the

    patient area.

    Skills:

    Nursing supervisors demonstrate leadership skills and the ability to evaluate the work of

    other nurses on the floor. A head nurse uses a combination of direct patient nursing skills with administrative skills

    to direct the activities of other workers.

    Education and Qualifications:

    A bachelor's degree in nursing and a Registered Nurse.

    Graduated from an approved nursing program and has a passing grade on the National

    Council Licensure.

    Must have a degree of Masters of Arts in Nursing.

    Staff NurseA staff nurse assists a physician in a hospital or in a clinic and provides professional

    nursing care. He has to protect, give advice and promote health issues and show how to

    take care of ones health, especially if the patient suffers from any major illness. He has

    to prevent illness and injury and advocate the care of individuals and communities.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Staff nurses can work in different departments like ambulance care or ICU.

    May work with the emergency team or have to take care of new born babies in the

    neonatal department.

    May have to deal with patients having specific health conditions like diabetes, cancer,

    etc.

    Can specialize in a particular organ or body system like the orthopedic or population

    geriatric.

    Must have to maintain accurate, detailed reports and records, charts.

    Must have to regularly monitor, record and report any change in patients conditions.

    Record the patients medical information and vital signs.

    Prepare patients for, and also assist them, during examinations and treatments.

    Skills and Specifications:

    Staff nurses must be disciplined and organized.

    Should have a positive personality and be sympathetic to the patients and their care

    givers. Should be able to deal with pressure and may have to work for long hours.

    Must have knowledge of various procedures required to take care of the patient, related

    to surgeries, post surgery, general care, etc.

    Education and Qualifications:

    Has a bachelors degree in nursing or an associates degree in nursing or graduation

    exam.

    Certified Nursing AssistantA certified nursing assistant (CNA) is a licensed professional in the medical industry who

    is in direct connection with the patients regarding all their daily needs.

    Functions:

    Nursing Assistant acts as an assistant to the nurse, and the duties of a CNA differ largely

    on what the patients are in need of.

    The certified nursing assistant comprises all tasks that are directly related to the

    everyday basic needs of patients. Nursing assistant has to carry out responsibilities such as handling and

    recording medical records and reports of patients.

    A nursing assistant help patients do their daily routines like bathing, toileting, eating,

    resting, etc. She may be required to administer basic medicines to patients under close

    supervision of a nurse.

    Job Duties:

    A Certified Nursing Assistant has to keep a minute eye on the vital statistics, and inform

    the nurses about the present condition of patients who are cared upon.

    He/She has to record the patient's body temperature, blood sugar levels, pulse andrespiration details, blood pressure, and other observations.

    He/She has to help the patient move from one place to another place, and also aid in

    patient transfer from one ward to another or to the treatment area.

    Skills:

    The main tasks of assistant nursing is assisting the patients in carrying out their routine

    physical exercises and workouts, changing their clothes and grooming, shaving, cutting

    their nails, liquid-feeding them with tubes, and many other daily activities.

    CNAs also have to render social and emotional support to patients who are completely

    bedridden. CNAs have to keep the patient's room clean, with changing the bed sheets on time, and

    tidying the room.

    A CNA is responsible for immediately sterilization of the tools after use. She/he has to

    follow stringent cleanliness regimes as to preclude the possibilities of infections and

    other diseases.

    She/he has to keep a detailed record of the nutritional routines followed by the

    patients.

    Education and qualification:

    Has a bachelors degree in nursing or an associates degree in nursing or graduationfrom a diploma school of nursing.

    Graduated from an approved nursing program and pass the state national licensing

    exam.

    Experience:

    Minimum of two (2) years recent experience in an acute cares hospital setting within

    the prior (3) years.

    Others:

    Proficient in the English language.

    Has a good verbal and written skill.

    Certificate of completion in specialty nursing area and passed the Nursing Licensure

    Examination.

    Rules and Regulations

    1. Visiting Time. Rest is very important to a hospital patient, especially one with a chronic

    illness. Hence, visiting hours are limited to:

    10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

    4:00 - 8:00 p.m.

    Except in the following restricted areas:

    Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Units

    10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

    7:00 - 8:00 p.m.

    Recovery Room

    7:30 - 8:00 a.m.

    6:30 - 7:00 p.m.

    Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (Viewing Time)

    11:00 - 12:00 noon

    4:00 - 5:00 p.m.

    2. Only two (2) visitors are allowed at a time.

    3. Children below 7 years are not allowed to visit so as not to expose them to infections.

    Children's companions are requested to attend properly to visiting children cautioning them

    against noise and unruly behavior in the hospital.

    made. Typically, this record contains your symptoms, examination and test results, diagnoses,

    treatment, and a plan for future care or treatment. The record set also includes financial data

    and may be maintained in paper or electronic format. The information serves as documentation

    of the care youve received for communication between health care professionals, subsequent

    care, payment of care, legal purposes and a tool to improve the quality of care and services weprovide in the future.

    Understanding what is in your record and how it is used will help you to:

    Make certain the information is accurate.

    Better understand who, what, when, where and why others may access your health

    information.

    Make a more informed decision when giving your permission for your health

    information to be sent or released to others.

    YOUR RIGHTS REGARDING PROTECTED HEALTH INFORMATION:

    Although your medical record is the physical property of this facility, the information belongs to

    you. You have certain rights regarding the use and disclosure of this information. To further

    understand these rights, examples of uses and disclosures of your protected health information

    appear later in this document.

    Right to See and Obtain Copies Of Your Medical Information

    In most cases, you have the right to look at or obtain copies of your medical information that

    we have, but you must make a request in writing. If we dont have your information but know

    who does, we will tell you how to get it. We will respond to you within 30 days after receiving

    your written request. In certain situations, we may deny your request. If we do, we will tell you

    in writing our reasons for the denial and how you can have the denial reviewed.

    If you request copies of your medical information, we may charge a fee for the copying, mailing,

    or other supplies associated with your request.

    Right to Amend or Update Your Medical Information

    If you believe that there is a mistake in your medical information, or that a piece of information

    is missing, you have the right to request that we correct the existing information or add the

    missing information. The request must be made in writing and you must provide a reason for

    the change. We will respond within 60 days of receiving your request. We may deny your

    Staff Benefits

    1.Social Security Systems (SSS) Contributions

    Republic Act No. 8282, otherwise known as the Social Security Act of 1997, refers to thesocial security system in the Philippines that is initiated, developed and promoted by its

    Government. The social security system is aimed at providing protection for the SSS

    member against socially recognized hazard conditions, such as sickness, disability,

    maternity, old age and death, or other such contingencies not stated but resulted in loss of

    income or results to a financial burden.

    The employee and his/her employer(s) are to contribute for the social security benefits of

    the said employee in accordance to a given schedule by the Philippine Social Security

    System. Monthly employee contribution depends on the employee's actual monthly salary.

    2.Contribution to National Health Insurance Program (NHIP)

    The employee and his/her employer(s) are to contribute for the medical insurance of the

    said employee in accordance to the Republic Act 7835 on Medicare Program which is

    administered by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth). Monthly

    employee contribution depends on the employee's actual monthly salary. The contribution

    schedule is provided by Philhealth.

    3.Contribution to Home Development and Mutual Fund (HDMF)

    The employer(s) is required to contribute per month not less than P100.00 to theemployee's Home Development and Mutual Fund. In accordance to the periodic remittance

    schedule provided by HDMF, the employer(s) will remit this contribution, in addition to that

    of the employee's, which is to be deducted from his/her payroll.

    4.The 13th Month Pay

    As mandated by the Presidential Decree No. 851, the employee shall receive a bonus salary

    equivalent to one (1) month, regardless of the nature of his/her employment, not later than

    December 24 of every year.

    5.Service Incentive Leave

    Book III, Chapter III of the Labor Code of the Philippines covers the employee's benefit for

    Service Incentive Leaves. According to Article 95, an employee who has rendered at least

    one year of service is entitled to a yearly five days service incentive leave with pay.

    6.Meal and Rest Periods

    Under Article 83, the employee is provided a one-hour employee benefit for regular meals,

    when working on an eight (8 hour) stretch. Employees are also provided adequate rest

    periods in the morning and afternoon which shall be counted as hours worked.

    All these provisions apply in addition to every new employee benefits furnished that are in

    excess of what is stipulated by the Philippine Labor Code. Other regular Philippine

    employees benefits furnished by the employer(s) but are outside of the mandated
