Ramblings from the "Extra" OfficeAlthough this has been a long journey, I am sohappy to finally be with you all here at WindsorPark United. I have been welcomed and madeto feel at home by the wonderful hospitality andfriendliness of all the members of thiscommunity. Thank you for that,

I also want to thank those of you who helpedmake the office such a welcoming andcomfortable place and to those of you whohave popped in for a chat as I try to get mybearings.

I have been busy as ljumped in with both feetthis fall to continue the great work that hasbeen done with the Youth Group and YoungAdults. The Youth Group has had two eventsso far this fall. Six youth joined us for anevening at St. Vital Park with games, a fire andmarshmallows. At the end of October, wetravelled to A Maze ln Corn for an evening offun (for those brave souls who risked theHaunted Forest, I salute you), a fire and moremarshmallows (am lseeing a patternhere...hhmm, fire and marshmallows). Wehad a great turnout as we had 20 youth andfour adults at this event. Thanks to everyonewho joined us at these two events -- we arealready planning for our next event.

The Young Adults met in October and we hadintended to also do A Maze ln Corn, but theweather did not cooperate. This turned into anevening of coffee and conversation and was agreat way for me to introduce myself to someof the young adults. Our next event is to be 10pin glow bowling in November (at the time ofwriting this event had not taken place, so I

cannot report on my gutter ball count) and wewill be having a pot luck supper in December.

lf anyone has any ideas for an event, pleasefeelfree to pass them along. Emailthem tome at [email protected]. Who knows, thenext event might be yours.

My door is always open (unless it is closedhahaha), so please stop in and say "hi". I lookforward to our time together and getting toknow you all.

Peace,PatricftWoodbecfr,

WPUC Garden Club

The Garden Club had a successful year again. Thanks goes out to the three members that grew allthe flowers - George Baker, Erich Schroeder andBill Belsham, as well as the volunteers throughoutthe summer who maintained the MemorialGardenand the flower beds. Without the volunteers. thegardens would not have looked so nice.

What are our plans for next year? Willwe continuewith the Garden Club? Again if there areinterested members and outside interest we willcontinue.

This fallvolunteers again responded to clean up theMemorial Garden and flower beds. Shrubs werepruned and ten new shrubs replaced the ones thathad died. Early next summer, more will be replacedwhich were not available this fall. Special thanks tothe volunteers - -Don & Wilma Hunnie, Lillian Aird,Bill& Carol Belsham, Norm Cassie, Morris & JoyceDeveson, Judy Kuffner, and Erich & JanieSchroeder. Finance and Stewardship

At the time of this writing ourGeneral Fund deficit is around$1,350, despite the fact thatPAR and Envelopes are$10,300 below budget. lf wemanage expenses and ourgenerous congregation followsthe giving patterns of the past, we should finish the year atslightly better than break-even. The Barrier Free Projectrepayment is on budget - we should have less than$55,000 to repay by the start of 2012. M&S givings are alsoon budget at $21,500 as of October 31't.

The formal part of Stewardship will take place in March2012 after the passing of the budget.

Speaking of the budget, the Councils should now be settingthei 2012 budget. We are hoping that thebudgeting/planning exercise will result in a2012 budget thatwill embody our Mission Statement and empower theCouncils to move forward with their plans.

We can always use a few more counters to assist with theSunday offering. Training is available and the coffee is free.Look for the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board beside theoffice..

As with other Councils we are also in need of newmembers. Please contact me if you wish to assist.

ln closing I would like to thank you for your continuedsupport of WPUC. I am constantly surprised and gratefulfor the gratitude the congregation shows to WPUC.

Outreach CouncilWe are into the season for Christmas Hampers.

Windsor Park United Church has volunteered toprepare and deliver 24 hampers on behalf of theChristmas Cheer Board and we need your help tobe successfulwith this task. The hampers weprepare include a combination of non perishablefood and perishable items such as turkeys, milk andvegetables plus some presents to help these 24families have a Merry Christmas.

This year your Outreach Council has followedthe pattern we started last year in an etfort tostretch the Christmas dollars as far as possible. For the past four or five months, members ofthe Outreach Council have been takingadvantage of sale opportunities at all thegrocery stores. Through the diligent work ofsome very carefulshoppers, we are pleased toadvise you that all of the non perishable fooditems have been purchased. The purchases todate have been paid from funds borrowed fromour church. The perishable food items will bepurchased on the day that the hampers aredelivered which is December 17rh.

This is where we respectfully ask for yourflnancialassistance to provide us with the fundsto make the Christmas Hamper program asuccess. Enclosed with your paper copy of theSouthWinds is an envelope for ChristmasHamper donations. For a couple of Sundays, members of the Outreach Council will also behanding out "hamper donation" envelopes forthose who receive their copy of SouthWindselectronically. lf you are inclined toward helpingin this manner, please return your contributionin this envelope and drop it in the collectionplate. Please ensure that your contribution forthe hamper program is clearly marked for thatpurpose. The need for your monetary donationsis even greater this year, as we are doing morehampers than last year. ln addition, we have torepay the money we have borrowed from ourchurch for the non perishable food, as well asprovide for the purchase of perishable items.

(As an aside, for the past several years wehave been delivering spring hampers to needypeople in our area. We want you to be awarethat the spring hamper program is funded fromyour surplus monetary donations collectedduring the Christmas season. This isdefinitely a gift that goes on giving.)

As in past years, the Sunday Schoolchildrenwill be provided with specific people from ourhamper list for whom to buy a gift. These giftscan be brought to the church and presented on

4.

Sunday, December 11m which is White GiftSunday.

5. We require volunteer drivers to deliver theChristmas Hampers on Saturday, December17th. Check for the sign-up sheet in theNarthex at church.

6. We willonce again have the Mitten Tree set upat the back of the sanctuary until the end ofDecember. Anyone wishing to donate mitts, gloves, hats, socks, etc. please just hang themon the tree. These are donated to schools inour area.

As you can see, we have some wonderfulopportunities for you to help make a difference inthe lives of people who are less fortunate than us.Every year at Christmas, this congregation amazesus with its generosity and we know this year will beno exception. On behalf of the needy families andchildren, thank you in advance, because we knowyour support will be terrific.

Moms 'n TotsMoms 'n Tots began the fall season on Octobe r 12tn.We welcomed 13 Moms, 13 children and 6 babies intothe group as well as our many caregivers. The ladiestake turns bringing snacks for the children as well astreats to enjoy with their coffee.

The Moms plan their own program which includes timeeach morning for visiting and getting to know oneanother. Time is also spent discussing topics of interestto the group. A favorite activity was making and sampling soups and stews and sharing theirrecipes.

For the Month of November, the ladies will participate in a book presentation from McNallyRobinson, card making, a breakfast out at the Southdale Family Restaurant and a yoga classpresented by Faralee. ln December the group will enjoy a potluck breakfast as well as a visitwith Santa for all of the children.

Thank you to all of the Moms that contributed toward the Christmas Hampers. Thank youalso to Faralee Wilson who has done a great job providing leadership for the Moms' group.

The children continue to do crafts, play with toys and etc. They enjoy asnack and spend lots of time with the caregivers. The babies areproviding the "grandmas" upstairs with lots of cuddle time andenjoyment. ln January, we are also looking fonruard to welcoming three

. new Moms with new babies into the group.b

Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who come out each week tolook after the children and also to those who volunteer their time ascaregivers whenever we need them.

We are looking for two volunteers to run this program. lt is a very easy, rewarding, andgratifying position. Most communication is done on the computer and the moms look afterand plan their own program. We have appreciated the opportunity to get to know all of thevolunteers and the "Moms". The children are delightful. As caregivers we watch them growfrom a tiny infant into the four or five year old child just beginning school. We have all feltblessed to have the opportunity to be a part of their lives. This program is a wonderfuloutreach project for our church and we see it as an opportunity for anyone who enjoys beinginvolved with all age groups.

Merry Christmas to everyone and may you share a wonderful holiday with your family andfriends.
