This is my first time to be invited to speak in
behalf of the National Federation in general and NFJPIA
- Region 8 Council in particular.
However, due to unexpected circumstances, I
will not be able to personally speak in front of you. With
that, I humbly apologize.
We are all part JPIA, otherwise known as the
Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants. Most peopleknow JPIA only as a name of an organization of
Accountancy students. But what is really JPIA?
JPIA is an organization of students
- Taking up not just Bachelor of Science inAccountancy but also other Accounting related
degree programs including Management
Accounting and Accounting Technology.
- We have 63,000 members nationwide making JPIAthe largest student organization in the country.
- It is also one of the best organization in thecountry.
- And the only accountancy organization accreditedby the Philippine Institute of CPAs (PICPA).
In JPIA, we have this 5-point goal which we
promote and where we base our activities.
1. Academic Excellence > Academic
competitions such as quiz bees define the promotion of
Academic Excellence. In fact, last July 2013 at theUniversity of San Carlos, Cebu City, 6 local chapters
from our region participated in the National Accounting
Quiz Showdown (NAQDown) Visayas Hub and 3 of
them qualified to compete in the national level.
Namely, your very own Nilo Culaban, Jubelyn Jade
Araque of University of Eastern Philippines and Karen
Lou Sampayan of University of the Philippines Visayas
- Tacloban College.
2. Leadership Promotion >Meetings and
conventions hone our leadership skills. Through
managing an event and coping with people, we aretrained to become an effective and efficient leader.
3. Professional and Administrative Care
>PICPA being our mother organization, is there to
guide and support us with our activities. Also, being
able to go to accounting and/or auditing firms and
meeting professional people, helps us establish our
being a JPIAn and being a future PICPAn.
4. Holistic Development >JPIA also helps us
become better individuals. Through socio-civic
comprehensive program, our inner kindness and
generosity comes out as we reach out to those in need
Plans for reaching out to the Yolanda victims is being
established. Recently, the administrator of the
Facebook page #AccountancyProblems contacted me
as they reached out by collecting Accounting books fo
our region in their program, "Hatag". As of now, i amstill convincing my council that we conduct a fund
raising activity for other necessary materials.
5.Unity, Solidarity & Membership Promotion
>Through conventions, JPIAns gather not just to
participate in every event but also to know other
regions. Establishing a bond with other JPIAns from
different places breaks the barrier among every
JPIAns.
Being in a position in the council is really hard
especially being the president, but that doesn't meanthat you don't get to enjoy.
I, as a person, fears of getting people disappointed
in me that is why I felt hesitant at first to run for this
position. However, someone has seen potential in me
so I pursued.
After all, Four of Divergent once said, "Fear doesn't
shut you down, it wakes you up". With all my failures
in the council I always end up in deciding to resign, bu
then realizations comes. Howver, quitting would make
me a loser and it doesntsolve anything. So I continueand serve the JPIAns in our region.
Besides, in JPIA, you will find not just an
organization but also a home, and by home I mean
with family. It may be not by blood but by being a
JPIAn.
And so, if you feel like serving in JPIA and I hope
that you do, join the council. Whether it would be in
your local chapter, in the region or even in the nationa
level.
Just remember that leading is serving. Its not
about who or what you are, its about what you can do
for your fellow JPIAns. Lastly, remember that JPIA is
love.
Good afternoon everyone and may this Genera
Assembly be of success.
