RADICAL TRANSFORMATION

On this Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, the readings describe anything but an ordinary time. They are disturbing and they leave us disturbed. The Old Testament reading recounts a young man’s radical break with the past to follow a new path. The Gospel describes how life as we know it is abruptly changed if we follow the call of Christ. The psalm and Paul assure us that such life-altering change is possible only because of the power of God’s love. We are presented with a stark choice. To love as God loves, we must leave our old lives behind. We must leave behind not just the bad, the selfish, and the evil but the ordinary, our daily work, and the important, our families, our lives. Loving as God loves requires a radical transformation, not a smooth transition. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Stewardship

In today’s second reading, St Paul provides a

wonderful one-sentence summary of Christian

stewardship: out of love, place yourselves at another’s

service.

The St. Bartholomew Society Scholarship

The deadline of June 30th is here. Please

turn your paper in to Paulette in the

parish office no later than Monday, July 1st.

Wondering what the future holds for

St. Bartholomew Parish?

Come on Sunday, June 30th between

the Masses and hear Tim Russell talk

about potential growth for our area

and our church. Come and help us plan the future.

We need all input, young and old.

Knights of Columbus Council 2736 is now selling 50/50 raffle

tickets. Contact your favorite knight, or

Pete Lenoir by text or call

@251-605-2413. Starting in July we will

be selling them after Mass.

The Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be sung on

July 7th before the 8:00AM and 10:30 AM

Masses, at 7:30 AM and 10:00 AM.

The parish office will be closed

on the 4th of July.

Happy Birthday America!

Be Prepared – Apologetics Series

Come and participate in a series of talks about what Catholics really believe.

The presenter is Pat Arensberg, Director for the Office of Family Life and Evangelization.

The first talk entitled “Introduction and Truth” will be Wednesday, August 7th, from 6:30 to 7:30 PM in the parish hall. Pizza and drinks will be served beginning at 6:00PM. Childcare will be provided.

Make sure to sign up for this year's Vacation Bible School, Splash Canyon, where we learn about God's promise on life's wild ride! There will be games, crafts, storytelling, and friends! VBS will

be held in the Parish Hall, July 29th to August 2nd from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Meals for the children will be provided at 5:00 PM. Lots of volunteers are also needed for prep work, set up, the week of VBS, and clean up, so please volunteer to help teach our future generation about God's Kingdom. If you would like to attend, volunteer, or purchase a t-shirt, sign-up sheets are in the back of the church. If you would like to make a donation, envelopes are provided in the pews and can be deposited into the box in the back of the church. Please make any checks out to St. Bartholomew Catholic Church. Thank you
