Inca Under Civil War
When Pizarro and his army had arrived in what they called Peru, the Inca empire was in a war over two feuding brothers fighting for control over their father’s kingdom.
Atahualpa had the upper hand on his brother Huascar.
He controlled his father’s prior army and won the seat to the throne.

Half a Century Later
By the time the Spanish had reached the tribe, Atahualpa and his army were exhausted and caught off guard.
Pizarro had conquered and captured Atahualpa by 1532.
They fought against the surrounding Inca revolts for half a century until the 16th century when the Spanish had finally won.
The native population had dropped from 32 million in 1520 to 5 million in 1548 due to the wars but mainly to the new diseases brought by the Europeans.
