Iberis Educación was born from the motivation and effort of a group of companies,

all of them highly established, with more of 15 years’ success in their respective

areas.

Our educational holiday programmes for teenagers from 12 to 17 have a humanistic

approach to learning, in which the person becomes involved as a whole in the

cognitive activity. The educational task is to help children to fulfill, in a responsible

and free way, the emotional, intellectual, social and physical change that implies the

transition to adulthood.

In this sense, the intensive practice of a sport, together with the intensive study of

Spanish –a highly international language- all in a family environment, means a

strategic advantage to a quality education.

Our purpose is to reinforce in our students a vital optimism, initiative, sociability,

respect to individual options, to the environment, and

an attitude of openness and tolerance to enhance the

social interaction within the international and pluralist

community that society is becoming.

• “Spanish and Equitation ” Programme: we

understand the practice of the rational

equitation as a personal challenge of self improvement. The child, in learning

to treat the animal with respect and firmness, develops his or her personal

values of integrity and leadership.

• “Spanish and Sailing ” Programme : the sport of sailing allows us confront

nature armed with a few basic elements that remain unchanged since the

most ancient times. Sailing teaches us to collaborate with the forces of

nature to achieve our objectives.

Both sailing and equitation create a forum for

character development. They teach us to self-

control and to adapt to nature’s rhythms. This

knowledge is especially important for our

adolescents, who, overloaded with an excess of

stimuli in today’s frantic world, learn to slow down

the pace as these sports require.

Accommodation: In both programmes ourstudents stay with carefully selected andfriendly Spanish families, and can use(with their parent’s consent) a bicycle fortravelling between their residence to andfrom the equestrian centre, and to theSpanish school centre.

1. SPANISH AND EQUITATION

The Spanish and Equitation Programme staffs both Spanish and equitation

instructors. The programme combines two intensive courses during the morning

and afternoon . We recommend a good physical shape. Spanish classes are held in

Spain both in the equestrian centre, when learning the equitation theory, and in our

specialised Spanish classrooms. The programme also includes social, cultural and

leisure activities. Lodging is with very friendly Spanish families.

We have chosen the university town of Villanueva de la Cañada less than 30

kilometres from Madrid for its peaceful and safe environment. Located in the

Regional Park of the Guadarrama River’s middle course, very close to the Sierra de

Guadarrama, the town enjoys sites of ecological interest and protected ecosystems,

combining areas of cereal growing with oaks, groves and banks of streams to the

Aulencia and Guadarrama rivers, making it ideal for all types of outdoor activities. It

is near to two reservoirs where it is possible to do all kinds of water activities, and

hosts the International University of Alfonso X the Wise, which attracts students

from all over Spain and other European countries. The university lodges an

internationally renowned veterinary clinic.

Madrid is the Spanish community in which we speak the most classical Spanish and

closest to the written language, without the idioms and particular accents of other

communities.

Language School : In collaboration with the Villanueva de la Cañada City Council,

held in municipal classrooms and with teachers

approved by the Spanish Ministry of Education,

weekly exams are held to allow us to establish skill

levels and meticulously supervise the learning

process and teaching quality.

With more than 350,000 hours of classes so far

and the support of thousands of satisfied customers, our Training Centre offers the

best guarantee to ensure the success of your Spanish course. Our method, that

develops the teaching of courses in a recreational and leisure environment, is also

innovative and effective, combining traditional teaching resources with a holistic

psychology.

At the end of the course each student will receive a diploma of attendance and

achievement.

Equestrian Centre: our qualified

instructors have been teaching horse

riding for many years, from the

beginner to high levels in the

disciplines of dressage and jumping.

Our students, especially those under

16, have had success in numerous

competitions such as the Infanta

Elena and Reina Sofia. We give

enormous importance to horseback activities like country horse riding and

horseball.

At the beginner’s level we give much importance to the equilibrium on the horse

and to the horse's language, the understanding of equine behaviour and feelings, so

as to better understand the natural aids of classical dressage and to establish an

effective mount.

Our principles in horse riding and Rational dressage : It is always easier and

praiseworthy to achieve things following the horses´ natural propensity instead of

going against it. This is why we spend a lot of time educating the student about the

horse’s physiology and psychology (ethology). Our student’s learn how a horse’s

senses work and the way in which it perceives its environment; how its body works;

what it can do and how it can get hurt; the body language used to communicate and

how a horse has developed throughout the millenniums in nature. This way they

may deduce how the horse perceives its daily exercises and the different situations

in which it finds itself, both out in the field and in the track, increasing its efficacy

and above all its safety, while treating the animal with the dignity it deserves.

As Alois Podhajsky, director of the Vienna school, states “More than any other art,

equestrianism is closely tied to the art of living. Many of its principles may always

serve as behavioural codes, thus becoming an educational instrument.

2. SPANISH AND SAILING

The Spanish and Sailing programme staffs both linguistics and sailing instructors.

The programme combines two intensive courses during the morning and afternoon.

Spanish classes are held in Spain both in the sailing club, when learning sailing

theory, and in our specialised Spanish classrooms. The programme also includes

social, cultural and leisure activities. Lodging is with very friendly Spanish families.

We have chosen the Mediterranean municipality of Guardamar de Segura, less than

Page 8: Spanish in Spain

30 kilometres from Alicante. Guardamar de Segura is a Phoenician settlement with a

rich and varied history, while currently it is a popular tourism destination mainly due

to its coastal parks with more than 800 hectares of pine, eucalyptus and palm trees

bordering its more than 11 km of fine sand beaches, clean water and with the ISO

9001 and 1400 quality seals.

While it remains a peaceful, safe small town, it has a wide range of cultural, leisure

and sporting activities, including the Youth Summer University, invaluable

archaeological and historical ruins and all of the services and infrastructures of a

modern city.

Language School: In collaboration with the Guardamar de Segura City Council, held

in municipal classrooms and with teachers approved by the Spanish Ministry of

Education, weekly exams are held that allow us to establish skill levels and

meticulously supervise the learning process and teaching quality. Our teachers apply

rigorous quality control systems and provide an evaluation of the students´ aptitude

at the end of each course.

Sailing Club: The modern marina in the mouth of the Segura River is a perfect place

to practice all sorts of maritime activities. The sailing school, certified and approved

by the Valencian Sailing Federation will teach Dingy Sailing to the teenagers and

providing the corresponding official certificate depending on the skill level reached,

known as the Vela Pass.

Page 9: Spanish in Spain

Certified instructors will adapt their teaching techniques for safe practice of the

sport, standardised into three working levels: from beginners, who learn the basic

sailing techniques and safety at sea; to advanced, who must be able to complete a

competition course, thus being able to participate in regattas regularly organised by

the Federation.

4. HOST FAMILIES

Our responsibility is that the child has everything s/he

needs: from a balanced diet, to proper rest and the work

environment necessary for successful learning and

enjoying sports activity.

Staying with families has the advantage of having the students immerse themselves

into a Spanish family, sharing their activities and a majority of their leisure activities.

This type of lodging produces an immersion effect that enables their linguistic

abilities learnt in Spanish classes. It improves the student’s understanding with

respect to the country’s culture, and allows them to not only learn the language, but

to also understand speakers in a variety of surroundings.

In order to optimise this, our families are friendly and trustworthy, they often have

children of similar age as the visiting student, they follow a strict code of conduct

concerning the student’s lifestyle and are continually supported by our staff.

7. SPANISH IN THE WORLD

An actual estimation of the number of students who study Spanish as a foreignlanguage in the world, sums up to 14 million. Only in Europe there are nearly 3million students distributed in 38 different countries, to which the 180,000students that visit our country every year with this purpose, have to be added. The demand of our language in the European continent is concentrated inFrance (with more than 2.100.000 students), Germany (with more than450,000), Italy (with more than 300,000) and Sweden and the United Kingdom(with more than 160,000 and 100,000 students respectively). Denmark (withnear 40,000) and Poland (with more than 30,000), Norway, Austria and Greecehave nearly 25,000 students, and Switzerland comes near to the 15.000.
