There are at present nearly 30 International House (IH) language schools in Spain.

Most of these schools concentrate on teaching English to the local population, but seven of them — IH Barcelona, IH Cadiz, IH Madrid, IH Palma de Mallorca, IH San

Sebastian, IH Seville and IH Valencia - are schools that specialize in teaching Spanish to students from all over the world.

 In 1998, the IH language schools in Barcelona, Madrid, San Sebastian and Seville

formed a consortium called IH España (or IH Spain). All four schools shared a common philosophy: we all wanted to offer Spanish courses which exceed our students'

expectations. 

In January 2005, the original four schools were joined by the IH language centre in Palma de Mallorca; in January 2007, by the IH School in Valencia; and, in May 2010, by

CLIC-IH Cadiz.

DELE SPANISH EXAM COURSES IN SPAIN

 DELE exam courses

DELE: Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera IH Spain's language schools around Spain all offer courses designed to prepare students for the DELE exams. The DELE courses vary in length from 4 to 10 weeks, with both intensive and extensive preparation courses.

Internationally, as well as in Spain, the most widely recognised official Spanish qualification is the "Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera" (DELE) – the Diploma of Spanish as a foreign language. You can take the DELE exam at three different levels, "Inicial", "Intermedio" and "Superior", roughly equivalent to the University of Cambridge's English language exams: PET, First Certificate and Proficiency (i.e. intermediate, upper intermediate and very advanced).

About the exams The DELE exams are run by the Instituto Cervantes, on behalf of Spain's Ministry of Education and Science, and are official qualifications, certifying the level of competence and command of the Spanish language. They are held in centres around Spain three times a year, in May, August and November (see our individual language schools site for exact details).

All three levels of the exam include a reading and listening comprehension, as well as grammar and vocabulary components and an oral test. The "Inicial" exam takes a total of 2 hours 50 minutes to complete; the "Intermedio" lasts a total of 3 hours 45 minutes and the "Superior" level takes 4 hours.
