FROSTY THE SNOWMAN
AWAY IN A MANGER Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head. The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay,
The little Lord Jesus asleep in the hay.
The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,But little Lord Jesus no crying he makes.
I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the skyAnd stay by my cradle til morning is nigh.
Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stayClose by me forever, and love me, I pray.
Bless all the dear children in thy tender care,And take us to heaven, to live with Thee there.
Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul. With a corncob pipe and a button nose
and two eyes made out of coal. Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale they say,
He was made of snow but the children know how he came to life one day. There must have been some magic
in that old silk hat they found, For when they placed it on his head
he began to dance around
Frosty the snowman was alive as he could be
And the children say he could laugh and play just the same as you and me
Thumpety thump thump thumpety thump thump
Look at Frosty go Thumpety thump thump thumpety thump thump Over the hills of snow

EASY IDEAS FOR HOLIDAY WREATHS
488 Stuart Drive, Fort St. James
250-996-8333
Bake it
Merry
Wreaths are synonymous with the holiday season, and
they can range from intricate to simple to fl ashy to
rustic. Creating festive wreaths does not
necessarily require a lot of skill, and wreaths can be
fashioned from a variety of different materials.
The fi rst step to crafting wreaths is to gather the
foundation pieces. This usually involves a sturdy
material that will serve as the wreath round. It can
be vine, foam, branches, or even wire. You’ll also
need decorative items that fi t the theme of your
wreath. These may be berries, ornaments, ribbons,
bows, and other trinkets that will be attached to the
wreath. Florist wire and tape can be used to attach the
ornaments to the wreath.
“Say cheese” wreath
Purchase a premade evergreen wreath or wrap
boughs of pine around a wreath frame to make your
own. Glue or tie on small wooden frames with photos
of the family to the wreath. Fill in the barren spots
with small bows and ornaments.
Fruitful wreath
Instead of an evergreen wreath, create something
festive and edible. Fruit and vegetables in vibrant
colors can be used to fashion a wreath. Use picks or
wire to attach oranges, lemons, limes, clementines,
and any other produce desired to a foam wreath. Use
leaves to fi ll in sparse areas and a thick ribbon to hang
the wreath.
Holly vine wreath
Purchase a plain grapevine wreath and decorate it
with sprigs of holly leaves and stems with berries.
Simple and festive, this wreath should take
only a few minutes to make and then hang.
Metallic wreath
Add a glamorous touch to an evergreen wreath
with faux fruit and pine cones that you paint with
glimmering metallic colors. Intersperse items in gold,
copper and silver for an eye-catching piece that can
adorn any spot in your home. Add a few twinkling
lights to refl ect off of the metallic elements to add
even more appeal.
Bells or glass ornament wreath
Use fl exible wire to string a wreath of metal bells or
glass ornaments together in a ring shape. Bells not
only look nice but also lend a gentle twinkling sound
anytime the door is opened.
Floral wreath
Make a fresh fl ower wreath from a fl orist’s wreath
and fresh blooms. Soak the foam wreath in water
according to the packaged directions. Trim fl ower
stems (carnations are durable) and insert the stems
into the wreath. Attach a bow to the bottom of the
wreath and then hang. This is one wreath that is best
displayed the day of the festivities because it has a
short shelf life.
Cinnamon wreath
This wreath looks beautiful and gives off that
quintessential holiday aroma. Begin with a foam
wreath and wrap with a two-inch wide ribbon to
cover. Use hot glue to secure cinnamon sticks all
around the wreath. For more color, add sprigs of
holly, bows or mistletoe.

God rest ye merry, gentlemenLet nothing you dismay
Remember, Christ, our SaviourWas born on Christmas day
To save us all from Satan’s powerWhen we were gone astray
O tidings of comfort and joy,Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
In Bethlehem, in Israel,This blessed Babe was bornAnd laid within a mangerUpon this blessed morn
The which His Mother MaryDid nothing take in scorn
O tidings of comfort and joy,Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
From God our Heavenly FatherA blessed Angel came;
And unto certain ShepherdsBrought tidings of the same:
How that in Bethlehem was bornThe Son of God by Name.
O tidings of comfort and joy,Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
“Fear not then,” said the Angel,“Let nothing you affright,This day is born a SaviourOf a pure Virgin bright,
To free all those who trust in Him
GOD REST YE MERRY GENTLEMENFrom Satan’s power and might.”
O tidings of comfort and joy,Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
The shepherds at those tidingsRejoiced much in mind,
And left their fl ocks a-feedingIn tempest, storm and wind:
And went to Bethlehem straightwayThe Son of God to fi nd.
O tidings of comfort and joy,Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
And when they came to BethlehemWhere our dear Saviour lay,
They found Him in a manger,Where oxen feed on hay;
His Mother Mary kneeling down,Unto the Lord did pray.
O tidings of comfort and joy,Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
Now to the Lord sing praises,All you within this place,
And with true love and brotherhoodEach other now embrace;
This holy tide of ChristmasAll other doth deface.

IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS
It’s beginning to look a lot like ChristmasEv’rywhere you go;
Take a look in the fi ve and ten glistening once againWith candy canes and silver lanes aglow. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Toys in ev’ry storeBut the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be
On your own front door.
A pair of hopalong boots and a pistol that shootsIs the wish of Barney and Ben;
Dolls that will talk and will go for a walkIs the hope of Janice and Jen;
And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ev’rywhere you go;There’s a tree in the Grand Hotel, one in the park as well,
The sturdy kind that doesn’t mind the snow.It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas;
Soon the bells will start,And the thing that will make them ring
is the carol that you singRight within your heart

Holiday decorating is a big part of the holiday
season. Bins are taken out of the attic or garage,
and decorations are once again given their
opportunity to shine for several weeks before being
packed away again.
Among the many decorations families use to deck
the halls are ornaments that were made by hand.
This year creating homemade ornaments can be a
crafty project that helps families make new holiday
memories.
Christmas tree ornaments come in all shapes
and sizes and often tell the stories of holiday
traditions. There are several different ways to create
personalized, do-it-yourself ornaments and leave
the cheap, easily broken ornaments from the dollar
stores behind.
Photo ornaments
Fun photo ornaments showcase how a family has
changed and grown over the years. Experiment
with different ways to create these ornaments. You
can glue a photo to a ceramic ornament and cover
it with decoupage glaze to set it permanently. Try
purchasing clear, glass ornaments, then remove the
top of the ornament, which is usually spring-loaded,
before slipping a photo inside and replacing the top.
You also can laminate a photo, punch a hole in the
top and affi x a ribbon.
Ceramic ornaments
The popularity of paint-it-yourself pottery has led
to an increase in ceramic and crafts shops across the
country. During the holiday season such shops offer
many holiday items that can be painted. Often the
store will then fi re the pieces after they are painted
so that they are shiny and hardened for display.
Those who want to do their painting at home can
visit their local craft or hobby shop, where typically
there are unfi nished ceramic ornaments that can be
painted with acrylic paints found right in the next
aisle. A fi nishing coat of clear glaze will help protect
the ornaments from year to year.
Wood crafts
Many of today’s craft centers have expanded to
include sections devoted to unfi nished wood items.
Everything from letters to animal cutouts to boxes
and rocking horses can be purchased and fi nished.
Turn keepsake boxes into painted and ribbon-
adorned gift boxes. Stain a treasure chest that can
be used to store reindeer snacks for Santa’s crew.
Turn small decorative pieces into ornaments for
the tree. Paint and affi x wood initials onto stocking
holders to identify to whom each stocking belongs.
Crafty individuals also can turn plain wood plaques
into signs with clever sayings, such as “Park your
sleigh here.”
Scavenge around the house
Young children can use any medium for making
ornaments. Garlands made of macaroni or
popcorn are traditional. Fabric scraps can be
sewn and stuffed with potpourri for homemade
scent satchels. Hand-drawn pictures can be
made and laminated and hung on the tree.
The only obstacle with regard to DIY
ornaments is a limited imagination.
Homemade items can add whimsy and a
personal touch to the holiday season.

fairs and artisan shops are good sources for locally
made gifts, which also are a great way to support
businesses in your community.
Gifts of service
A massage or music or tutoring sessions are
examples of gifts of service. These gifts do not
require much use of natural resources, and recipients
fi nd their personal nature very thoughtful. Gifts of
service also can include tasks you do yourself for the
gift recipient, rather than paying another person to
handle. For example, teach a senior member of your
family how to navigate their new smartphone or
agree to help them shop for groceries.
Recycled goods
When many people think of recycling, they tend to
picture piles of discarded plastic bottles, glass jars
and aluminum cans. While the end product of many
of these recycled pieces is new cans, bottles and jars,
recycled materials also can be turned into new and
unique pieces. Trivets and spoon rests made from
recycled and melted wine bottles make for clever
and attractive gifts. Recycled fi re extinguishers have
been turned into vases, and you can even fi nd bike
parts that have been used to make wind chimes and
belts if you know where to shop.
Natural gifts
Natural gifts are among the most environmentally
friendly ones you can give. Foodies may appreciate
an herb-growing kit that enables them to
experiment with freshly picked basil or thyme in
the kitchen, while tree-growing kits and fl ower
seed packets are nice stocking stuffers for budding
gardeners. Offer to purchase a living Christmas
tree for a relative, so that he or she can plant the
evergreen after the holidays have come and gone.
Antiques
New, shiny gifts are not the only ones that have
appeal. Gifting a sentimental piece of family
history is an earth-friendly way to share the
holidays. Pass down a cherished piece of jewelry
or, if you do not have anything in your own
collection, browse antique shops for items that
have interesting histories.
The holiday season is often a time of excess,
but giving doesn’t have to be detrimental to
the environment. Givers can seek out earth-
friendly gifts and share even more this time
of year.

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen,Comet and Cupid and Doner and Blitzen.
But do you recall? The most famous reindeer of all?
Rudolph the Red-Nosed ReindeerHad a very shiny nose,And if you ever saw it,
You would even say it glows. All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names; They never let poor RudolphJoin in any reindeer games.
Then one foggy Christmas Eve,Santa came to say,
Rudolph with your nose so bright,Won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?
Then how the reindeer loved himAs they shouted out with glee,
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,You’ll go down in history.

O little town of BethlehemHow still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleepThe silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shinethThe everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the yearsAre met in thee tonight
For Christ is born of MaryAnd gathered all above
While mortals sleep, the angels keepTheir watch of wondering love
O morning stars togetherProclaim the holy birth
And praises sing to God the KingAnd Peace to men on earth
How silently, how silentlyThe wondrous gift is given!
So God imparts to human heartsThe blessings of His heaven. No ear may hear His coming,
But in this world of sin,Where meek souls will receive him still,
The dear Christ enters in.
O holy Child of BethlehemDescend to us, we pray
Cast out our sin and enter inBe born to us today
We hear the Christmas angelsThe great glad tidings tell
O come to us, abide with usOur Lord Emmanuel

INGREDIENTS:
7oz unbleached all-purpose fl our
1 1/2oz unsweetened natural cocoa powder
1/2tsp baking soda
6oz unsalted butter with 82 percent
butterfat, at room temperature
3 1/2oz granulated cane sugar
4 1/2oz dark brown cane sugar
1/2tsp pure vanilla extract
1/2 Tahitian vanilla bean, split horizontally
1/2tsp salt
3oz milk chocolate, roughly chopped
3oz 65% chocolate, roughly chopped
DIRECTIONS:
To make the dough:
Sift the fl our, cocoa and baking soda together
in a bowl. Set aside.
Put the butter in the bowl of a stand mixer
fi tted with the paddle attachment. Beat on
medium speed until creamy. Add both sugars
and the vanilla extract. Scrape the seeds from
the vanilla bean into the bowl. Sprinkle the salt
over the top. Beat on medium speed just until
combined.
Reduce the speed to low. Add the dry
ingredients in three additions, pulsing the mixer
to incorporate each addition before adding
the next one. Pulse just until a crumbly dough

forms. Add both chopped chocolates and mix on low speed just until incorporated.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly fl oured work surface. Knead a few times to incorporate any
crumbs.
Divide the dough in half. Roll each half into a log about 11/4 inches in diameter and 12 inches
long. As you roll, gently push the ends toward the center occasionally to prevent air pockets
from forming and to keep the logs at an even thickness.
Wrap the logs in plastic wrap and refrigerate until fi rm, at least three hours or up to three
days.To bake the cookies:
Preheat the oven to 325 F. Line the bottoms of two 12-by-18 inch sheet pans with
parchment paper.
Remove the logs from the refrigerator and unwrap them. Using a ruler to guide you and
a sharp knife, cut each log into rounds 1/2-inch thick. If the dough crumbles as you cut it,
reshape each slice. Place the rounds on the prepared pans, spacing them 11/2 inches apart.
Bake on the middle shelves of the oven, rotating the pans 180 degrees halfway through
the baking time, until set but soft enough to hold a slight indentation when pressed with
a fi ngertip, about 14 minutes. Let cool completely on the pans on wire racks.
Makes about 48 cookies

Your Answer To Sliptivity
That sports jersey from high school has seen better days, but you can’t seem to part with
it even now. What about that hair band concert T-shirt you’re too embarrassed to admit
is still tucked in the back of your closet? Are the kids making fun of your college tee that
has holes under the arms? T-shirts hold special places in the hearts of many people. Now
quirky, athletic and downright memorable tees can be turned into customized gifts for
everyone on a holiday shopping list.
T-shirts tell a lot about a person -- interests, political views, favorite sports teams -- and
more. The average person has a collection of T-shirts acquired through the years taking
up space in closets and drawers, all because it can be diffi cult to throw out shirts that
have so many memories. Clever gift-givers can use these T-shirt collections to create
unique and thoughtful gifts that will be appreciated throughout the years. Here are some
ideas for gifting.
* Cut up T-shirts to make a scrapbook of certain times in a person’s life. Include funny
anecdotes, photographs and artwork to customize the book for the recipient.
* Head to the local craft store and pick up an empty shadowbox frame. Fold a friend
or loved one’s prized T-shirt and place it on display in the shadowbox (the depth of the
box makes it easier to accommodate the bulk entire shirt). The “artwork” can then be
displayed in a bedroom or den.
* Talented sewers can turn vintage T-shirts into new works of fashionable attire. For
example, a graphic tee can be sewn to an elastic-waisted skirt to create a pull-on
dress perfect for a budding fashionista. Downsize favorite T-shirts so they
can be worn by children.
* Make holiday decorating easy for individuals who love to “do up”
their homes in holiday decor, top to bottom. Gather ugly, quirky, and
seasonal holiday T-shirts and sweatshirts and have stitch’T turn them
into a holiday-inspired quilt perfect for tossing over a recliner or sofa.
Every year the quilt can be part of holiday decorating tradition.
Take out those T-shirts hidden in drawers and closets and show off
tee pride with custom gifts sure to bring a smile to the faces of
friends and family this season.

SEE AMID THE WINTER’S SNOW
See amid the winter’s snow, born for us on earth below,
see the tender Lamb appears, promised from eternal years. Hail, thou ever blessed morn;
hail, redemption’s happy dawn; sing through all Jerusalem.
Lo, within a manger lies he who built the starry skies,
he who throned in height sublime sits amid the cherubim.
Say, ye holy shepherds, say what your joyful news today;
wherefore have ye left your sheep on the lonely mountain steep?
‘As we watched at dead of night, lo, we saw a wondrous light;
angels singing ‘Peace on earth’ told us of the Saviour’s birth’.
Sacred infant, all divine, what a mighty love was thine,
thus to come from highest bliss down to such a world as this! Hail, thou ever blessed morn;
hail, redemption’s happy dawn; sing through all Jerusalem

Have a great Holiday Season from the staff and doctors of Fort St. James Medical Clinic
Here is a great gift for those hard to buy for people
Ingredients
1/2 cup water
3/4 cup fl our
3 tablespoons corn syrup
2 1/2 teaspoons unfl avored gelatin, such as Knox
4 cups birdseed
Directions
Measure out each ingredient before beginning. Spray each cookie cutter or mold with nonstick cooking
spray to stop the ornaments from sticking. Arrange the sprayed cookie cutters on the wax paper.
Add the water and corn syrup to the nonstick saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and add
the gelatin, stirring or whisking it continually to dissolve. This will create a syrupy liquid that will bind the
ornaments together. Only heat this mixture until the gelatin has dissolved.
Transfer the syrup to your mixing bowl and add the fl our. Stir the mixture until it is well blended. If it is too
thick to stir easily, add additional hot water one tablespoon at a time until it is thinned. Or if the mixture is
too thin, add fl our one tablespoon at a time to reach the right consistency.
Add the birdseed and thoroughly mix it with the fl our batter to coat all the seed. This will be a thick, stiff
mixture, but it is important to blend it well otherwise the ornaments will fall apart.
Spray your hands thoroughly with nonstick cooking spray and fi ll each cookie cutter to the brim with
birdseed. Be sure to press seed into every corner of the mold, and press the seed as fi rmly as possible to
compact the ornaments – loose seed will fall apart more easily. The birdseed mixture can dry out quickly
so it is wise to have help with this step (great for kids!), or else cover the mixture in the bowl with plastic
wrap between each ornament.
Any extra birdseed mixture you have left after fi lling all your cookie cutters can be rolled into small balls
or patted into small, fi rm cakes without molds. These small shapes can be quickly added to a platform
feeder or used to fi ll a suet cage or similar wire or mesh feeder.
Use a lollipop stick here or skewer to create the holes for hanging each ornament, make sure the hole is
completely through each ornament. Place holes approximately one inch away from the ornament’s
edge to ensure a sturdy form, and wiggle the skewer around to be sure the hole is
large enough for your string or twine. Gently move the ornaments – still in the cookie
cutter molds – onto the wire cooling rack to dry. Do not remove them from the molds
or else they may loosen and collapse. If necessary, they can be left on the counter to
dry, but placing them on the wire rack will allow air to circulate under the ornaments
so they dry more quickly. Dry the ornaments for a minimum of 6-8 hours, but
preferably overnight or for a full day if possible. Thread the ribbon, string or twine
through the holes in each ornament and tie in a tight knot leaving an open loop for
hanging. If the holes are too tight, use the same skewer you formed the holes with
and poke it through again; the seed inside the holes may collapse slightly as the
ornaments dry, therefore restricting the hole size. Another option is to use a
wide-eyed tapestry needle to pull the ribbon or string through the hole.
Package the ornaments for gift giving or hang them from your tree.

UNLOCKS - BOOSTS - RECOVERY
It is the season for entertaining, when invitations for barbecues and parties abound. Common courtesy
dictates guests offer a token of appreciation to their host or hostess for the invitation to socialize. Although
wine or other beverages are a go-to gift, a tasty dessert also makes a great gift. And gifters can even
consider a no-bake recipe so they don’t have to turn on the oven when the weather warms up.
Need inspiration? Browse the Internet and you’re likely to discover dozens of delicious no-bake recipes.
Cooking shows on television and articles in newspapers and magazines also can inspire home chefs.
Otherwise, you can try your hand at these simple dessert solutions.
* Ambrosia salad: Ambrosia is a variation on a traditional fruit salad. While the name references a food
enjoyed by Greek deities, most believe the dessert traces its origins to the United States. Although
ambrosia salad can have different variations, many recipes begin with a dairy base (pudding, sour cream
or yogurt) and then include different canned or fresh fruits, shredded coconut and mini-marshmallows.
Ambrosia salad is refreshing on a warm day and takes little time to prepare.
* Pudding trifl e: Trifl es are made by layering different ingredients to create a striated design. This dessert
may include a variety of ingredients, from cake to cookie crumbs to fruit. Trifl es also can be customized
to fi t a particular party theme. Patriotic parties may feature a trifl e made with berries, whipped cream and
cubes of vanilla pound cake. Match fl avors to cocktails or other food being served.
* Easy ice cream cake: Packaged ice cream sandwiches can be turned into a tasty and simple dessert. First,
purchase a box of ice cream sandwiches, then melt hot fudge and crumble cookies, like Oreos(R), into the
fudge. Spread the cookie and fudge layer on top of the sandwiches and then repeat the layers. Finish by
sealing everything with a thin coating of frozen whipped topping. Wrap in aluminum foil and allow to set
and harden in the freezer for a few hours.
* Fruit pizza: This is a refreshing and relatively healthy dessert to complement any occasion. Start by
making a graham cracker crust, either by mixing graham cracker crumbs with melted butter and a bit of
sugar and pressing into a pie dish or by simply buying one ready-made. (For a less healthy alternative,
and one that requires baking, use a sugar cookie dough to make a cookie crust.) Mix whipped cream
cheese with a bit of strawberry jam, marmalade or your favorite fruit fl avor. Spread over the crust. Place
slices of fruit on top of the cream cheese. Peaches, apples, grapes, sliced cherries, kiwi, and blueberries
can be used. For a professional-looking fi nish, a glaze made from cornstarch, water and sugar will give
the top of the fruit pizza an inviting sheen.

THE FIRST NOELThe First Noel, the Angels did sayWas to certain poor shepherds in
fi elds as they layIn fi elds where they lay keeping their sheepOn a cold winter’s night that was so deep.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel!
They looked up and saw a starShining in the East beyond them farAnd to the earth it gave great light
And so it continued both day and night.Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel!
And by the light of that same starThree Wise men came from country far
To seek for a King was their intentAnd to follow the star wherever it went.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel!
This star drew nigh to the northwestO’er Bethlehem it took its rest
And there it did both Pause and stayRight o’er the place where Jesus lay.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel!
Then entered in those Wise men threeFull reverently upon their knee
And offered there in His presenceTheir gold and myrrh and frankincense.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel!
Then let us all with one accordSing praises to our heavenly Lord
That hath made Heaven and earth of noughtAnd with his blood mankind has bought.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel!
