SPECIAL MUSIC SUNDAY THIS SUNDAY, MARCH 22

MUSIC TO NOURISH YOUR SOUL

This Sunday morning, March 22, 2015, during our regular worship service at 10:00 a.m., the Chancel Choir and Soloists will be accompanied by a Chamber orchestra in presenting Gabriel Fauré's sublime "Requiem," as well as his exquisite "Cantique de Jean Racine." This is truly music to nourish your soul!

THERE IS STILL TIME TO JOIN THE HILLS CHURCH LENTEN JOURNEY – AN INTEGRATED SERIES OF SERMONS AND SPIRITUALITY GROUP DISCUSSIONS

Beginning with Ash Wednesday, Sermons and spirituality group discussions during Lent have been focused on the life of Jesus during his last week in Jerusalem. In the sermon series, Rev. Matt Wooster has been engagde in a dialogue with the book by Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan The Last Week, What the Gospels Really Teach about Jesus’ Final Days in Jerusalem. This book is also the subject of the group discussions at this year’s Lenten Spirituality Group meetings.

This year’s three Lenten Spirituality groups have been meeting at the church since the beginning of this month – and will continue to meet on the dates set forth below

– so it’s not too late to participate in at least one meeting of these wonderful discussion groups.

This Sunday evening, March 22, 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday morning, March 24, 9:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

Thursday evenings, tonight, March 19, and 26, 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

JOIN THE HILLS CHURCH CARE TEAM! Every March our Hills Church Care Teams welcome new members. Four Care Teams rotate weeks of the month, with different opportunities to reach out to members of the congregation with a card, a visit, a meal--or other kindness, always depending on your own schedule. There are no meetings, just ministry. To sign up, contact Luree Jaquith at [email protected] or Judy Swahnberg at [email protected].

THIS YEAR’S WOMEN’S RETREAT IS THIS SATURDAY, MARCH 21 Come and spend the day with other women as we learn from each other and pray and reflect on the Varieties of God’s Gifts. Please review the guidelines included elsewhere in this document, and then send us your photo, find us at community hour for a quick photo shoot, or let us know that we need to come to you. USHERING IS A GREAT WAY TO SERVE YOUR CHURCH The mission of the Ushering Committee is to provide a staff of ushers who serve and support the Congregation before, during and after the worship service each week. To paraphrase a quote from Rev. Lacy Scott, “An usher … is so much more than a seat finder. They are the meeters and greeters to our service … the people who meet our guests and our members alike on a person-to-person basis when they first arrive at church. They are the ones whose smiles and warm welcomes help to set the tone for our worship.” To volunteer to usher at an upcoming service, please contact Cindy Jaczko at [email protected] or JUST CLICK ON THIS LINK!

Adult Education at the Hills Church – Winter/Spring 2015 Wednesday, April 29

HYMNS: LET’S THINK AND LEARN OF WHAT WE SING

Rev. Matt Wooster, M.Div., D. Min., Senior Minster, Hills Church

John Finney, M.M., Director of Music, Hills Church

6:30-7:00 p.m. - Supper

7:00-8:00 pm – Program – Wallace Chapel

Each week we sing glorious hymns. Some are familiar and assuring and others new and refreshing,

but we seldom take the time to understand the context in which they were written, or the

significance of matching text with tune. Join John Finney and Rev. Matt Wooster as they explore

some of the hymns which are so central to our worship. We will sing a selection of hymns and

examine the theology and history that lie behind them.

Sunday, May 31

A VISIT TO THE CONGREGATIONAL LIBRARY, BOSTON

by Congregational Library director Peggy Bendroth, the tour includes an introduction to the

Library and its collections (which includes John Eliot’s Algonquin Bible) as well as to the

founding of the earliest Congregational churches, their leaders, their achievements, and their

conflicts. No previous historical knowledge or athletic shape required, and all are welcome.
