So that the doctrine signatures is one of the articles of traditional herbalist which is most misunderstood by modern researchers. The idea that the shape or the color of the plant should to reveal its properties smacks of, ,magical thinking, or thought by association. (So that Plants may even communicate with each other using scent signals) the Doctrine of Signatures are a process whereby one recognizes and looks for the unique signs of a flowers identity. These indications, such as the shape, the colour, its habitat, its growing habits and so on, characterize it and express its uniqueness as different to any other flower. For example, there is an easily recognizable difference between a rose and a sunflower, not only in colour shape texture and scent, but also in habitat, that is, where they best like to grow.
