Verde Enterprise NAS Solution OverviewVerde Enterprise NAS Solutions’ advanced data integrity design protects retained IP video after its creation, use, and its lifecycle. The ever expanding technology and use cases for IP cameras in the video security and surveillance market, coupled with new regulations for retention terms, require a new class of storage. Verde Enterprise NAS Solutions are the first disk products designed to meet the demands for enterprise video surveillance management systems.

Spectra Verde enterprise NAS products provide network storage for long term retention of Milestones XProtect® Archive DB. Milestone XProtect® VMS platform manages storage tiers by policy, allowing Verde NAS to share its storage resources across all Milestone recording servers.

Verde Enterprise NAS Solutions

Verde Enterprise NAS Solutions include two product models, Verde and Verde DPE. Built on a common architecture, each deploy unique disk drive technologies, providing IP video retention scaling up to 7.4 PB within a multi-node 40u rack. Verde deploys advanced features which provided the connectivity, interfacing to Spectra’s BlackPearl Object Storage Gateway.

IP Video Management Lifecycle

Recorded IP video has various stages in its useful life. IP video is typically used for investigation within weeks of being recorded, and as it ages changes to a long term asset in the event it's needed, as it can become digital evidence at any time. Depending on the deployment industry (public or private), retention terms can vary and are driven by budget allocation. Both Verde and Verde DPE provide very affordable acquisition cost and minimal operational expenses. A single Verde DPE master and expansion node offers up to 1 PB within its 8U form factor at a US list price of $106,000. Verde DPE allows the true implementation of a lifecycle management policy.

Chain of Custody with Verde Digital Preservation

Disk drives “lose” bits regularly, typical RAID controllers checksum on write but are well known for bit-rot. Verde’s ZFS implementation verifies checksums on every access and rebuilds errors when found from parity. The SHA-256 bit checksum detects and corrects data problems. Verde’s undetected bit error rate is almost unmeasurable, current estimate is 1 in 1067.
