(20) 18” x 21” pieces of fabric 3¼ Yards

General GuidelinesPlease read the entire pattern once through before starting. Use a ¼" seam allowance unless otherwise directed.

C U T T I N G I N ST R U C T I O N S

From each fabric, cut:(1) 9” strip, into:

(1) 8½” square(8) 3” squares(4) 2½” square

(2) 2½” strips, into:(4) 2½” x 4½” pieces(8) 2½” squares

(1) 2¼” strip for binding

Pattern InstructionsPiecingST E P 1

On the backs of the 3” squares of the lightest fabric in your pairs, draw a diagonal line from corner to corner. Place the marked light square right sides together on a dark 3” square. Sew ¼” from both sides of the line. Cut apart on the line and press towards the dark. Square to 2½”. Repeat to make a total of (16) half-square triangles.

ST E P 2

On the backs of (8) 2½” squares of the darker fabric, draw a diagonal line from corner to corner. Place a drawn square on one end of a 2½” x 4½” piece of the lighter fabric with right sides together. Sew directly on the line and press out. Trim the bottom layers to ¼”. Place another drawn square on the opposite end noting that the diagonal lines will cross at the back at ¼”. Sew on the line. Press out and trim the bottom two layers to ¼”. Make a total of (4) flying geese.

Sew two half-square triangles and a flying geese from Step 2 together as shown. Press in the direction of the arrows. Repeat to make (4).

ST E P 4

Sew a lighter centered block together using the pieces from step 3, (4) 2½” square of the darker fabric, and an 8½” square of the lighter fabric as shown. Press in the direction of the arrows. The block should measure 12½” square including seam allowances.

Repeat the procedure from Step 2 to make (4) more flying geese but this time, draw on the lighter fabric 2½” squares and place on the darker fabric 2½” x 4½” pieces. Make a total of (4).

Sew two half-square triangles from Step 1 and a flying geese from Step 5 together as shown. Press in the direction of the arrows. Repeat to make (4).

Sew a darker centered block together using the pieces from Step 6, (4) 2½” squares of the lighter fabric, and an 8½” square of the darker fabric as shown. Press in the direction of the arrows. The block should measure 12½” square including seam allowances.

ST E P 8

Repeat to make a total of (10) lighter centered blocks and (10) darker centered blocks.

ST E P 9

Sew the blocks together in 5 rows of (4) blocks, alternating the lighter centers and darker centers as shown. Press the rows in opposite directions. Sew the rows together and press in one direction.

Quilt, bind with 2¼” fat quarter strips, and enjoy!
