Bob, I have an award for you!

would allow us to go farther afield.

Northern Idaho might make a great

Vintage Motorcycles by Charlotte Zaugg

Charlotte and Jerry’s son Jared sent this:

Vintage Motorcycles will be coming through Boise on their way to Lewis-

ton. The riders will be coming in from Elko Nevada and will rendezvous at

the High Desert Harley-Davidson in Meridian on Thursday September 18

at 5pm. The next morning they will depart for McCall. Charlotte and Jerry

plan on driving along in one of their British cars and invite any club mem-

ber to join them on Friday morning.

Our club was presented the Best Club Trophy at the

Mtn Home Lions Club 2014 Ramble and Roar Car Show.

Nine IBCC cars attended the event—Bob Hurtt gracious-

ly sponsored our club’s participation and will be pre-

sented with the trophy at the next coffee.

See page 6 for more information about the show.

I started the drive west to Idaho from Delaware on a Saturday morning hoping to avoid the week-

day traffic in Columbus, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana. (I really dislike driving through Indianapo-

lis as I have almost been hit twice by bad drivers in the last two years when I was there during a

weekday.) Saturday traffic was light but I was rained on a dozen times while in western PA. On

into Ohio, through Columbus OK and made it the 485 miles to the first night stop in Springfield

Ohio. Not up to driving so walked to the Cracker Barrel and discovered it was the Saturday dinner

place of choice for all of the local citizens.

Sunday was uneventful and I made the trek through Indianapolis OK and ended up in Hannibal,

MO after 440 miles of driving. Mark Twain was napping and Tom Sawyer had left town for more

exciting places as everything was closed by the time I got there. Monday started out good except

for a partially sticking oil pressure relief valve and I made 380 miles before stopping near Waco,

NE for my second tank of gas. OOPS, the car wouldn’t start. Tried several things including cuss-

ing with no luck and finally decided the starter was bad. Called AAA who could not locate the des-

olate almost deserted gas station in the middle of nowhere where I was stuck. I eventually was

towed to a real town, York, Nebraska 8 miles farther along. Crawled under the car to remove the

starter and found a broken wire. Repaired it and everything worked again.

Tuesday I had to make up the distance I didn’t make on Monday so I had 657 miles to drive

which wasn’t too bad except for the now badly sticking oil pressure relief valve that had to be

whacked every time I stopped for gas so it would reseat. Fortunately I had a spare with me so I

changed it out that

night. It worked fine in

Rock Springs, WY but

when I started driving

the final 490 miles on

Wednesday it stuck

again. Back to whack-

ing at every gas stop.

Made it to its new

home in Eagle and

pulled into the garage

just as the skies

opened up and torren-

tial rain, high wind and

hail came crashing

down. All in all, it was

an excellent trip.

Mt Home’s 13th Annual Ramble & Roar Car Show

reported by Lynn and Jan Gardner

Thought you’d like a little note about the car show in Mtn Home. We had 9 cars show up

allowing us to win the “Best” club award (that award definitely goes to Bob Hurtt who

sponsored us).

The drive down was uneventful, with only one of us having a non-car related pause that

was soon remedied. The weather was very nice going down, but heated up as the day

went on. Fortunately, Bob Hurt secured the best spot in the park and provided us with

soothing liquid refreshments allowing us to last till the awards were given out at five pm.

One of the most interesting cars I saw was a 2 seater Messerschmitt. I’m really surprised

that this car didn’t win the “Best” foreign car since ‘cute' almost always trumps ‘cool’. At

any rate, I thought it was very cute and would love to have it in my garage. Wait, it’s not

British is it? Oh well, probably for the best.

I’m embarrassed to say that the judges gave my E Type the Best Foreign car trophy. I

heard a rumor that the MGC was a top contender till the owner pissed off the judge when

he wouldn’t open the bonnet for the engine to be inspected. Hmm, don’t think he knew it

was THE judge.

We had a very good turnout, all of which were beautiful contenders; with the Gregory and

Margaret Bell’s beautiful Alpine, Terry Thompson’s MGC, Jim Hahn. with his TR6, Rick

Lake, Dave Countryman and Bob Sanders with their MGB’s, Bob Frisby with his Austin

Healey and Stanley Lee with his Midget. All in all, a good turnout considering the hot

sun. Next year I would like to see us get even a few more cars. With a few more cars, we

could really turn it into a British Car Show!

Later in the day, we were joined by Rick Mills in his TR6 which seemed to be running well

(perhaps too well-it didn’t want to stop running). Several of us finished up the day with a

drive up to Little Camas where Rod and his Band were playing a benefit for Leukemia re-

search. That for me was the highlight of the day. We had a 360 degree view, thunder and

lightning in the distance adding to the bass, good music, friends, and beer under the

stars! Doesn’t get much better than that! Wish you’d have been there!

Cheers,

CLASSIFIED ADS

FOR SALE: 1975 TR6 $17500

Java Green with black interior. Many new parts. Overdrive. Located in Salt Lake City, Utah. 801.906.8140

[email protected] Dave Chapman (nm9/14)

FOR SALE: ’69 MG Midget $1250.00

Car is either a project or a parts car.

The Good: It has excellent chrome spoke wheels and like new tires and tubes (approximately one year

old). These alone are worth more than the asking price for the car. It has good chrome all around including the

bumpers. The windshield is good and even the seal at the base is good. It supposedly had a new gas tank in-

stalled a few years ago.

The Bad: Engine will need rebuilding. I was told the transmission was good, but it seems awfully noisy to me.

The interior is shot. The body was very straight until it was hit in the rear a few months ago. There is some rust

showing in the “A” pillars and there may be more hidden. The brake master cylinder is BAD. I don’t know about

the rest of the brake system.

The car needs quite a bit of work but is very salvageable. For someone with a Midget or Sprite who’s been look-

ing for wire wheels this is the perfect donor car. I will have the title in hand within the next week or so. I bought

the car a couple of weeks ago and am just looking for a small profit. I am asking $1250.00 but will entertain of-

fers. Please call Bob at 703-0083. Please DO NOT text or email. We can email photos upon request.

FOR SALE: 1970 MGB GT –

The only year with the split bumper in the rear. This one runs really well. The owner has been using it as a daily

driver. It is in good shape though not concourse by any means. It’s got a little rust in the sills, nice wire wheels, a

serviceable interior though could use new seats. It has been properly maintained, fluids and tune-up recently and

garaged. It has good paint, but again it’s daily-driver quality. $5300, please contact Mike Hipsher 208 720-8384

for details and more pictures. The car is in Hailey, Idaho. (m 7/14)
