History of NVEEE
HISTORY In 2009, before bullying and youth suicide became among the hoKest topic in mainstream media, there was a group of people who originally met during their undergraduate years at University of Miami (UM), who took their passion for being agents of change and said “It’s Bme to stop talking about it.” With limited resources and an abundance of purpose, NVEEE was formed. Together they have successfully mentored dozens of students, presented signature anB-‐bullying workshops across the country and are conBnuing to fulfill a mission of empowering youth and families.
In 14 years Jowharah Sanders had experienced immeasurable bullying and ostracizaBon. At 15 she was abducted from school in Miami and assaulted on mulBple levels. The powerlessness she experienced surrounding this aKack was the root of two suicide aKempts. “The only thing
leX to do is die.” Those were the thoughts that were followed by a boKle of pills. She survived. October 20, 2009 is the day she recalls truly living; she founded NVEEE. She reached out to former classmates at UM and challenged them to engage in new dialogue around bullying and suicide ideaBon and to take part in a movement to change hearts. Today Jowharah knows her purpose. She travels the U.S sharing her story and inspiring others to become agents of change in their own communiBes.
