Maura Healey has served as Massachusetts Attorney General since January, 2015—one of many accomplishments in a long career dedicated to fighting for justice and equality. She is the first openly gay Attorney General in the United States, and proudly leads what she considers to be the “people’s law firm.”

For seven years prior to her election, Maura helped lead the Attorney General’s Office. She first served as Chief of the Civil Rights Division, where she spearheaded the state’s challenge to the federal Defense of Marriage Act. She then

went on to direct two of the office’s most prominent divisions before successfully running for Attorney General in the 2014 election.

Throughout her career, Maura has been a strong and influential champion of LGBTQ rights. She is known for her work in support of marriage equality, civil rights and, most recently, transgender rights. She has also spoken on the need for increased protections for LGBTQyouth and seniors.
