IntroductionSPORTidentprovidesthetiminghardwareandtimingserviceforallEnduroWorldSeries2017(EWS)races.SPORTidentcollaboratescloselywiththeorganisersofeachraceduringthepreparationandexecutionoftherace.Forasuccessfulevent,closeanddetailedcoordinationbetweenorganisers,thestaffon-siteandSPORTidentisnecessary.
ThisdocumentgivesabriefoverviewoftheSPORTidenttiminghardware,outlinestheracesetupandprocedures(whererelatedtotiming),andliststheequipmentandconcreteservicesprovidedbySPORTidentandwhatsupportandrequirementshavetobeprovidedbytheorganiser.ThegoalofthedocumentistoestablishasharedunderstandingoftimingatEWSandbeingasdetailedaspossiblewithoutbeingspecifictoanyonelocationororganiser.
2. HardwareSPORTidentAIR+isusedattheEWS.ThemaincomponentsaretheSPORTidentActiveCard(SIAC)andtheSPORTidentstations(BS11-BL,BS11-BS,BSF7).SIACsarecarriedbyeachriderandrecordtherider’stimesashepassesSPORTidentstations.TimingiscontactlesswhichmeansthatitissufficientfortheridertopasswithintheproximityofaSPORTidentstationtorecordatimetohisSIACs.Consequently,themaindistinguishingcharacteristicsofthedifferentSPORTidentstationsaretheirproximityrange,listedinthetablebelow.Finally,mobileconnectivityforliveresultsisprovidedbytheSPORTidentConnector.AllSPORTidenthardwareisbattery-powered,easytosetupanduseandfitsinastandardbackpack.
EachridercarriestwoSIACs,oneoneachwrist,wherethesecondSIACprovidesbackupincaseoflossoracrash.TheSIACswillbehandedovertotheridersbeforethestartoftheracebySPORTidentstaff.

4. TimingLocations
a. VenueStartLocationRiderscheckinfortheracedaytogettheirSIACshandedout.Foratwo-dayrace,riderskeeptheirSIACsafterthefirstdayandwillcheckinontheseconddaytogettheirSIACscheckedandactivated.Thevenuepre-startislocatedrightbeforethestartingstageandcollocatedwithQuarqGPStrackerandframestickerhand-out.
SPORTidentprovidessoftwareandalaptopforastartclockshownonabigscreenforthestartingarea.

ASPORTidentConnectorismountedonthesamepoleastheSPORTidentstation.Bothneedtobemountedandthenactivatedbyamarshalwithaservicechip.ThemarshalswillbetrainedandinstructedbySPORTidentpriortotherace.
TheSPORTidentConnectorautomaticallyreceivesandtransmitsarider’sprevioustimerecordswhentheriderchecksinwiththeSPORTidentstation.

StageStartSPORTidenttimingequipmentworksasaflyingstart.Thevisiblestartlinewheretheridersarepositionedneedstobeplacedatleast2.50minfrontoftheSPORTidentstartunitBS11-BS(blueboxinthepicture).Thisdevicecreatesasphericalfieldwitharadiusof1.80m.Themarshalsneedtoensurethatnoridercanenterthisrestrictedareabyaccident.
Ifariderentersthestation’sfield(restrictedarea)accidentally,hewillobtainanincorrectstarttime.Ifthathappens,theriderneedstowaitatleastoneminutebeforeproceedingwithhisproperstart.MarshalsneedtoreportsuchanincidenttothetimingcoordinatorwhointurnreportsittoSPORTident.

TransmissionPointAtthetransmissionpoint,timingrecordsfromthestagesareuploadedtotheinternet.Thetransmissionpoint’sBS11-BS(blueboxinthepicture)andConnector(blackboxinthepicture)mustbepositionedatleast10mafterthestagefinish.Ifthereisnomobilecoverageclosetothestagefinishthenthetransmissionpointmustbeplacedatanappropriatelocationbeforethenextstagewhere2G,3G,or4Gisavailable.
Itisimportantthatthepassingriderissloweddownbythemarshalatthetransmissionpointtoguaranteeproperdatatransmission.Theriderdoesnotneedtostop.Asindicatedinthedrawing,thetransmissionpointmustbetapedlikeanS-curve.

VenueFinishLocationWedistinguishbetweentwodifferenttypesofoveralleventfinishes.Inthefirstcase,thelaststageoftheracedayendsdirectlyintheeventvenuelike,forexample,inLaThuile2016.Inthesecondcase,thelaststageoftheracedaywillnotendintheeventvenuelike,forexample,inFinaleLigure2016andtheridershavetodoatransferafterthelaststageintotheeventvenue.Inbothcases,theriders’SIACsarereadoutastheridersarrivebackatthevenue.Here,theSIACsarealsocollectedfromtheridersatthelastdayofamulti-dayrace.

LaststagedoesnotendatthevenueIfthelaststageoftheracedaydoesnotendattheeventvenueandtheridersneedtodoatransferback,thenanothertransmissionpointisrequiredafterthislaststage.Additionally,allridersneedtocomebacktotheSIACreadouttenttomakesurethatalldatarecordsfromthecourseareobtained.
TheSIACreadoutshouldbenexttothemainstage.Mostlikely,thetentandsetupforthevenuepre-startcanbereusedfortheSIACreadout.Eachrider’sresultisannouncedasheclimbsupthemainstagewithindividualracetimeandpositionautomaticallyappearingonthecommentaryscreens.
CommentarySPORTidentprovidesonelaptopforthespeaker,displayingliveraceresultsandinformationaboutarrivingriders.Typically,thelocationofthespeakerwouldbeafterthefinisharchoronthemainstage.
Inaddition,aminimumofonelargeTVscreenisusedtodisplayliveresultsforridersandtheaudience.Possibly,thevenuestartclockscreencanbereused.

b. OrganiserTimingCoordinatorTheTimingCoordinatorisonededicatedpersontohelpatanyrelevanttimingpositionortask.HemustbeavailableatalltimesandideallyshouldbefamiliarwithSPORTidentequipment.Thecoordinatorhasthefollowingresponsibilities:
