Connections of New Zealand Group One winner Summer Passage (Snitzel) are hoping a decision to bypass Saturday’s Caulfield

Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) will pay dividends tomorrow.

The Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott-trained colt is one of ten three-year-olds in tomorrow’s Blue Sapphire Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Caulfield, a race won last year by subsequent Coolmore Stud Stakes (registered as Ascot

Vale Stakes) (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Flying Artie (Artie Schiller).

A winner of the Sistema Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) at Ellerslie in March, Summer Passage was scratched from the Caulfield Guineas after drawing the outside barrier (16) for the $2,000,000 race.

Summer Passage ($8), who split Invader (Snitzel) and Trapeze Artist (Snitzel) when runner-up in the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) at Randwick as a juvenile, has drawn barrier eight for the Blue Sapphire Stakes.

Hugh Bowman takes the ride, with the colt taking on the Aaron Purcell-trained Vain Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) winner Jukebox (Snitzel), the unbeaten filly Crown Witness (Star Witness), the Lindsay Park-trained Formality (Fastnet Rock) and the talented I Did It Again (Nicconi).

Scott told ANZ Bloodstock News yesterday the right decision was made to scratch Summer Passage from the Caulfield Guineas with the way the race panned out.

“It was going to be tough for him from that wide gate and we made the decision to bypass. He has drawn a bit wide in eight (tomorrow) but it is better than 16 in the Guineas,” Scott said.

“From the barrier it was going to be mission impossible in the Guineas and the horse that drew that outside barrier (Holy Snow) had a tough run and that quite possibly could have been us.”

Summer Passage resumed at Flemington in the Danehill Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) on 16 September, finishing eighth to Catchy (Fastnet Rock) and beaten two and a half lengths.

He then was runner-up to Perast (Snitzel) in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude (Gr 3, 1400m) at Caulfield on 1 October.

to race on speed, so he should be fine,” he said.

“(The Danehill Stakes run) was a combination of him getting lost up the straight the first time and he was fresh up that day.”

Summer Passage, who was an $800,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale purchase by Wexford Stables from the Highgrove Stud draft, could tackle the Coolmore Stud Stakes providing he runs well in the Blue Sapphire Stakes.

“All going well he will go to the Coolmore. We will take it one race at a time. Hopefully he runs well on Wednesday and we can make some plans from there,” he said.

Meanwhile, Caulfield trainer Stuart Webb is delighted with the condition of Blue Sapphire Stakes contender Crown Witness, an unbeaten filly who won the Quezette Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) at Caulfield on 19 August defeating Catchy.

The lightly raced Crown Witness ($4.60), who won her first start at Sandown Hillside before winning at Flemington over 1000 metres, has drawn barrier one with Ben Melham retaining the ride.

Webb gave Crown Witness an 800 metres barrier trial at Cranbourne on 9 October, a hit out she won by three and a half lengths against her own age and sex.

“To the eye and on the clock everything was really good with her trial,” Webb told ANZ Bloodstock News.

“I would probably rather the race was over 1100 metres, but she has

had a jump out at Caulfield and the trial at Cranbourne as well as a couple of good gallops in between.

“She is also coming off a good base of fitness and while the 1200 metres is always a query, there is nothing else around for her and the options were very limited with what the programme allows.”

Webb expects Crown Witness to race on the speed from the inside barrier tomorrow as she has at her three starts so far. The rail remains in the true position for tomorrow after Saturday’s Caulfield Guineas meeting.

“It depends on how she pulls up, but if she goes well, she will be heading to the Coolmore,” he said.

“She is in a really good spot at the moment and I couldn’t be happier with her.”

Flying Jess seeking Vase victoryMagic Millions 3YO Guineas (RL, 1400m) winner Flying Jess (Hinchinbrook), who was runner-up in the Stocks Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) at Moonee Valley last start, will contest tomorrow’s Ladies Day Vase (Gr 3, 1600m) at Caulfield. The John Moloney-trained filly, who will be ridden by Tye Angland from barrier two, is one of nine acceptances for the $150,000 race. She will be up against the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Prompt Response (Beneteau) and the Lindsay Park-trained stablemates Hell Or Highwater (Not A Single Doubt) and Happy Hannah (More Than Ready).

Three Lindsay Park sprinters in Listed raceLindsay Park has accepted with three sprinters in the Italktravel Stakes (registered as the Caulfield Village Stakes) (Listed, 1200m) at Caulfield tomorrow headed by Gilgai Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) winner Keen Array (Bel Esprit) and Group Two winner Faatinah (Nicconi). Keen Array took out the $200,000 Gilgai Stakes at Flemington on 7 October and will be reunited with Mark Zahra from barrier four. Faatinah, who has drawn barrier 11 with the in-form Kerrin McEvoy taking the ride, was held up for a run

when beaten two lengths in the A J Moir Stakes (Gr 1, 1000m) on 29 September. The third of the David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained sprinters is the stakes winner Ruettiger (Duporth), who will be ridden by Craig Williams.

Caulfield Cup start confirmed for Johannes VermeerThe Aidan O’Brien-trained Johannes Vermeer (Galileo) has been confirmed as a runner in Saturday’s Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m) after a brilliant first up second to Gailo Chop (Deportivo) in the Caulfield Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m), where he will be ridden by Ben Melham. The Australian-owned five-year-old entire had not raced for two months when running at Caulfield last Saturday and has pulled up well. "He ran very well, we thought as much, he was absolutely flying since he got here, I think since he got here his work has come on again," O’Brien’s travelling foreman T J Comerford told Racing.com. Owner Lloyd Williams, who has a share in Johannes Vermeer, will also run Sir Isaac Newton (Galileo) in the Caulfield Cup, with Katelyn Mallyon taking the ride.

in preparation for Saturday's Caulfield Cup in which he will be ridden by Hong Kong's champion jockey Joao Moreira. The consistent nine-year-old, who won the Irish St Leger (Gr 1, 1m6f) in 2016, ran 22nd in the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) last season.

He’s Our Rokkii to back upLindsay Park has decided to run out-of-form Group One winner He’s Our Rokkii (Roc De Cambes) in the Caulfield Cup. Last year’s Toorak Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) winner finished eighth in Saturday’s Craven Plate (Gr 3, 2000m) at Randwick and has been unplaced in all four runs this campaign. "He's struggling a little bit but we saw the weather forecast and the prospects of rain," co-trainer David Hayes said. "He's qualified, in the field, so we thought we'd give him a try." Luke Nolen will take the ride on the gelding.

Lizzie L’Amour out of Caulfield Cup

Co-trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman say they will not accept with Lizzie L’Amour (Zabeel) for Saturday’s Caulfield Cup. Group One winner Lizzie L’Amour was found to have suffered a heart fibrillation after her seventh place finish in the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m), before finishing a never-nearer sixth in the W H Stocks Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) at Moonee Valley. However she only managed to beat two home in Sunday’s Cranbourne Cup (Listed, 2025m) and connections are keen to get her back to her true form before running her again.

Unbeaten Octabello in Gothic StakesUnbeaten colt Octabello (Pierro) is one of 17 nominations for Saturday’s Gothic Stakes (Listed, 1400m) at Caulfield. The Mick Price-trained three-year-old won on debut in July and was most recently seen winning the Rose of May Handicap (1400m) at Flemington on 27 September. He could be joined in the race by stablemates Lord Sundowner (Hard Spun), who will be looking to secure a hat-trick, and Mactier (Reward For Effort). Meanwhile, Lindsay Park have nominated three horses, including last start Moonee Valley winner Muraaqeb (Snitzel).

Derby favourite Main Stage entered at CaulfieldLast start UCI Stakes (Listed, 1800m) winner Main Stage (Reliable Man), who is currently heading the betting for next month’s Victoria Derby (Gr 1, 2500m), could have his next engagement in the Caulfield Classic (Gr 3, 2000m) (registered as Norman Robinson Stakes) after he featured among the 34 nominations yesterday. The Trent Busuttin and

Natalie Young-trained three-year-old could line up alongside Group One winner Catchy (Fastnet Rock) and Royal Symphony (Domesday), who finished third and fourth respectively in Saturday’s Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m).

Teodora in Ethereal StakesThe Darren Weir-trained Teodora (Teofilo), who is unbeaten in two starts, is one of 23 fillies nominated for the Ethereal Stakes (Gr 3, 2000m) at Caulfield on Saturday. She could take her chance alongside the John Thompson-trained Group Two winner One More Honey (Onemorenomore), while Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott could be represented in the race by last start Flemington winner Pinot (Pierro), who has been nominated with stablemate Princess Mia (Fastnet Rock).

Property could resume in Caulfield SprintThe Robert Smerdon-trained Property (Starcraft) could resume in the Caulfield Sprint (Gr 2, 1000m) on Saturday after he featured among the 16 nominations for the $200,000 race yesterday. The gelding has not been seen since winning the Kindergarten Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) in April and he is the only three-year-old entered for Saturday’s contest. Other notable entries include last start Gilgai Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) winner Keen Array (Bel Esprit), Group Three winner Missrock (Fastnet Rock) and BRC Lightning Handicap (Listed, 1050m) winner Snitty Kitty (Snitzel).

Silent Sedition entered for Moonga StakesA total of 20 horses have been nominated for the Moonga Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday, including the Andrew Noblet-trained multiple Group Three winner Silent Sedition (War Chant). Trainer Chris Waller has nominated Group One winner Foxplay (Foxwedge) in the $150,000 race, while Group One performer Savile Row (Makfi) has also been entered by trainer Mike Moroney.

Sense Of Occasion nominated for Coongy CupTrainer Kris Lees could saddle two horses in the Coongy Cup (Gr 3, 2000m) at Caulfield on Saturday, after he nominated Group One

winners Sense Of Occasion (Street Sense) and Sound Proposition (Savabeel) in the $150,000 race. Other notable entrants include last start Inglis Cup (2000m) winner Wheal Leisure (Artie Schiller), Group Three winner Samovare (Savabeel) and the Robert Hickmott-trained pair Assign (Montjeu) and Gallante (Montjeu). Unbeaten Crystal Fountain first up in Alinghi

The Anthony Freedman-trained Crystal Fountain (Stravinsky) could put her unbeaten record on the line after she featured among the nominations for the Alinghi Stakes (Listed, 1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday. The four-year-old has not been seen since winning over 1100 metres at Geelong and could clash with the Henry Dwyer-trained stakes winner Snitty Kitty, who is also entered. Another notable entry includes the Lindsay Park-trained Fuhryk (Star Witness), who will be looking to add a third stakes race to her CV having won the Kevin Hayes Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) and the Proud Miss Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) last season.

28 nominated for TristarcDual Group One winner Global Glamour (Star Witness) has been given the option to resume in the Tristarc Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) at Caulfield this weekend. The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained mare has not been seen since she finished second in the Arrowfield 3YO Sprint Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) in April and she could take her chance alongside the Chris Meagher-trained Savanna Amour (Love Conquers All), who was most recently seen winning the How Now Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Caulfield last month. Meanwhile, Group One winner Foxplay has also been nominated for the $200,000. Click here to view Saturday’s Caulfield weights.

Quinton mares entered in NivisonThe City Tattersalls Club Nivison (Gr 3, 1200m) at Randwick on Saturday could see the Ron Quinton-trained pair Dixie Blossoms (Street Sense) and Daysee Doom (Domesday) clash for the third time this preparation. Daysee Doom beat her stablemate into second in the Golden Pendant (Gr 2, 1400m), before Dixie Blossoms reversed the form on their last meeting in the Angst Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m) at Randwick. Trainer Garry Frazer has nominated Group Three winner Spright (Hinchinbrook) for the Group Three, while the Tim Martin-trained Group One winner Heavens Above (Street Cry) also holds a nomination. Click here to view the Randwick nominations.

City Tattersalls Club for Destiny’s KissTrainer Joe Pride has said he intends to run multiple stakes winner Destiny’s Kiss (Power Of Destiny) in the City Tattersalls Club Nivision, following his gallant fourth place finish in the ATC St Leger (2600m) at Randwick on Saturday. "I would certainly be more comfortable if I thought it would rain before Saturday," Pride said. "He prefers a bit of give in the ground and his rating has gone up to 105 but he is racing well. He is a Listed horse. That's his level and that's where he's most competitive."

Emirates aim for FolkswoodAlthough no decision has been made as to whether Folkswood (Exceed And Excel) will tackle Winx (Street Cry) in the Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) on 28 October, Chris Connett, travelling foreman for trainer Charlie Appleby, has said his ultimate aim this spring is the Emirates Stakes (registered as LKS Mackinnon Stakes) (Gr 1, 2000m) at Flemington on 11 November. The gelding made a winning Australian debut on Sunday when impressively taking out the Cranbourne Cup (Listed, 2025m). "Speaking with Charlie this morning, the major target is the Emirates Stakes at the end of the carnival, whether or not he goes to a Cox Plate, that is something Charlie is going to have a think about over the next few days,” Cornett told Racing.com.

No lead up Melbourne Cup run for CardinalThe Andreas Wohler-trained Group Three winner Red Cardinal (Montjeu) will head to the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) without a lead up race according to Australian Bloodstock’s Jamie Lovett. Protectionist (Monsun) won the Melbourne Cup for the same connections in 2014 after he ran fourth in the Herbert Power Stakes (Gr 2, 2400m), but the concern about hard tracks forced a rethink about plans for Red Cardinal. "We were going to run in the Herbert Power but as we've seen over the past few weeks, we've had a few horses pulled up a bit scratchy at Caulfield so we've elected to bypass it," Lovett told Racing.com. "It's against what we do but we just had to weigh up and make a decision. Do we run the risk of having to patch him up after the Herbert Power, which wasn't his spring grand final?”

Wall Of Fire to also head straight into CupThe Hugo Palmer-trained Wall Of Fire (Canford Cliffs) will head straight to the Melbourne Cup, provided he gets a start. Wall Of Fire ran a fine second in the Herbert Power Stakes and he currently sits 31st in the order of entry, he will need to rely on the attrition of several other runners over the coming weeks to secure a start in the 24-horse field. "Wall Of Fire will just go quietly for the next week or so before we start ramping things up into the Melbourne Cup,” travelling foreman Robert Archibald told Racing.com.

Crystal Mile next for Mask Of TImeFollowing his eye-catching fourth place finish in the Toorak Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) the Hugo Palmer-trained Mask Of Time (Holy Roman Emperor) will now head for a tilt in the Crystal Mile (Gr 2, 1600m) at Moonee Valley on 28 October. "And we're looking to the Crystal Mile at the Valley in two weeks' time for Mask Of Time but we want to see him over the next few days to make sure he's really come through the run well,” Robert Archibald told Racing.com. "He had a bit of a blow after it so it looks like we’ll get a bit of improvement out of him."

No penalties for Lord Fandango and Big DukeLord Fandango (Lord Of England) and Big Duke (Raven’s Pass) have not been penalised for the Caulfield Cup following their victories on Saturday, with Lord Fandango winning the Herbert Power Stakes (Gr 2, 2400m) at Caulfield while Big Duke won the ATC St Leger (2600m) at Randwick. Racing Victoria handicapper Greg Carpenter is unable to raise Lord Fandango's weight and he will carry 50 kilograms in Saturday's Caulfield Cup with the Herbert Power earning him a ballot exemption. Lord Fandango is not entered for the Melbourne Cup. Under the set weights conditions, the ATC St Leger winner cannot be penalised for the Caulfield Cup or Melbourne Cup because the race does not carry stakes status.

Balf’s Choice chasing Murray Bridge Cup winBalaklava Cup (Listed, 1600m) winner Balf’s Choice (Written Tycoon) has been entered for the Murray Bridge Gold Cup (Listed, 1600m) on Friday. The Ryan Balfour-trained five-year-old gelding ran fifth to Brown Ben (Big Brown) last start in the Tokyo City Cup (Listed, 1800m) at Morphettville on 30 September and is one of 20 nominations for the $100,000 race. Balf’s Choice’s stablemate Kirona (Krupt) is also nominated for the race as is the Tony McEvoy-trained Brown Ben. Victorian trainer Anthony Freedman has also nominated Battlecamp (Shocking) for the race. Click here to view the Murray Bridge nominations.

Menari to miss CoolmoreThree-year-old Menari (Snitzel), winner of The Run To The Rose (Gr 2, 1200m) last month, has undergone a tieback operation and will miss the remainder of the spring including the Coolmore Stud Stakes (registered as Ascot Vale Stakes) (Gr 1, 1200m). The Gerald Ryan-trained colt ran third as favourite in the Golden Rose Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) on 23 September and was being aimed at the Group One race at Flemington on 4 November before being diagnosed with the condition last week. Owner-breeder George Altomonte confirmed to ANZ Bloodstock News that Menari had undergone the operation at Randwick Equine Centre yesterday. “It is probably why he didn’t go so well in the Golden Rose. We did a dynamic check on him last week and at the 800 metres he only had 60 per cent airflow,” Altomonte said.

Trapeze Artist likely to trial before CoolmoreThe Gerald Ryan-trained Golden Rose Stakes winner Trapeze Artist (Snitzel), a stablemate of Menari, is recovering from a neck or shoulder injury which forced his scratching from the Sydney Stakes (registered as City Tatts Lightning) (Listed, 1200m) on Saturday. The three-year-old remains on track to contest the Coolmore Stud Stakes and could barrier trial before the race 4 November. "We seem to be winning with him," Ryan said. "He's finished the anti inflammatories and is moving well. He only missed one day of work and that was on Friday. He had a couple of days just trotting and we'll step it up over the next few days and see how he goes."

Brown able to ride In Her Time in ManikatoCorey Brown is free to ride In Her Time (Time Thief) in the Manikato Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) after having the dates of a careless riding suspension altered. The Ben Smith-trained mare is the second favourite behind Vega Magic (Lope De Vega) for the 1200 metres sprint at Moonee Valley on Friday week. Brown won the Sydney Stakes (registered as City Tatts Lightning) (Listed, 1200m) on In Her Time at Randwick on Saturday but was suspended for his ride in the Highway Consolation which would have expired on 28 October, the day after the Manikato Stakes. Racing NSW stewards have agreed to Brown’s application to begin his suspension earlier and he will now be out from 20 October and able to ride on 27 October.

Zahra to ride English in the ManikatoThe Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained mare English (Encosta De Lago) will be ridden by Mark Zahra in the Manikato Stakes, replacing Blake Shinn. The Group One winner finished sixth in The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday when partnered by Shinn. "We were happy with the run considering where she settled in the run from the wide barrier," Bott told Racing.com. "The track wasn't really suiting horses like her that get back in the field. She has come through the run in great order and we've pencilled in the Manikato for her next run."

Craven Plate winner spelledIn-form middle distance five-year-old Classic Uniform (Al Maher) will be spelled after his upset win over Happy Clapper (Teofilo) in Saturday's $500,000 Craven Plate (Gr 3, 2000m) at Randwick. The Gary Moore-trained gelding was runner-up in the Premier’s Cup (Listed, 1900m) on 26 August and after an unplaced run in the Kingston Town Stakes (Gr 3, 2000m) won the Hill Stakes (Gr 2, 1800m) and Saturday’s Group Three race. Moore has ruled out a Melbourne spring campaign for Classic Uniform and will instead give the gelding a break.

Boss appeals severity of suspensionSingapore-based Australian jockey Glen Boss is appealing the severity of a careless riding suspension for interference caused on European import Riven Light (Raven’s Pass) in Saturday’s Caulfield Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m). Boss’s suspension started on Sunday night and is due to expire on 24 October, but the Victorian Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board will hear an appeal tomorrow. Boss rode at the Singapore Turf Club’s meeting at Kranji on Sunday. If unsuccessful in his appeal, Boss will miss the Caulfield Cup meeting and Sunday’s Raffles Cup (Listed, 1800m) meeting in Singapore.

NZ Bloodstock Ready To Run breezes get underwayThe first session of breeze ups for the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready To Run Sale took place at Te Rapa yesterday, with a total of 199 juveniles taking part. The fastest time of the day was recorded by a son of Poet’s Voice (Dubawi), who stopped the clock at 10.53. Catalogued as Lot 17, the 11 October born colt will be offered as part of the Riversley Park draft. Another to breeze in a quick time was Lot 80, a gelding by Smart Missile (Fastnet Rock) from the draft of last year’s leading vendor Lyndhurst Farm who breezed in a time of 10.78. Day Two of the breeze up action will take place today at Te Rapa from 10am, with the sale due to begin its two-day run on 22 November. Video footage of the breeze ups will be available from Friday. Rock On ready for LivamolLast season’s New Zealand St Leger (Listed, 2500m) winner Rock On (Road To Rock) is reportedly in peak condition ahead of his tilt in the reschedueled Livamol Classic (Gr 1, 2040m) at Hastings on Sunday. Trainer Gary Vile has said they will wait and see how he runs on Sunday before making a decision whether they aim him at the New Zealand Cup (Gr 3, 3200m) on 18 November. “It will depend on the track at Riccarton, he won’t be going if it looks like being too hard,” Vile said. “There’s some great options so we’re not going to panic, the Wellington Cup and the Auckland Cup are good races for him.”

Summer sprints for Heroic ValourGroup One targets are on the agenda for Heroic Valour (Fastnet Rock) according to co-trainers Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards. A winner of the Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) as a two-year-old, Heroic Valour won the Northland Breeders Stakes (Listed, 1200m) last season and has not been seen since running ninth in the BRC Daybreak Lover Plate (Listed, 1200m). “He’s coming up very well and he’s had a gallop at Taupo. At this stage, he’ll kick off in the Listed Legacy Lodge Sprint at Te Rapa on 11 November and then we’ll be looking at the Railway and the Telegraph,” said Vile.

20 for FrankelThe Luca Cumani-trained Aljezeera (3 f ex Dynaforce by Dynaformer) ran out a convincing winner of the Beckford Stakes (Listed, 1m6f) at Yarmouth yesterday and in the process provided Frankel (Galileo) with his 20th stakes winner. The three-year-old filly came into the race off the back of a fine second in the Park Hill Stakes (Gr 2, 1m6.5f) and yesterday she was able to go one better, eventually beating Capricious Cantor (Cape Cross) by a length and three quarters with another length back to Pacharana (Oasis Dream) in third. Frankel is currently leading second season sire in Britain by winners and second behind Nathaniel (Galileo) by earnings.

York want WinxBritish tracks are working together with their European counterparts to attract Australian star Winx (Street Cry) and York chief executive William Derby will be joining others in Australia as part of a worldwide tour to lure overseas stars to the Knavesmire next season. The Chris Waller-trained mare will be bidding to win her third Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) and 22nd consecutive victory a week on Saturday has never raced outside Australia. "There are a number of key targets and Winx is the big filly that we're very much focused on,” Derby told the Racing Post. "The approach that all the tracks involved – us, Ascot, Goodwood, Newbury, Jockey Club Racecourses, Leopardstown and France – is that rather than all of us randomly trying to attract her individually, we're going to work together and map out the options for her in concert and try to get her over."

19 confirmations for Long Distance CupHigh-class stayers Big Orange (Duke Of Marmalade) and Order Of St George (Galileo) could clash again in Saturday’s Long Distance Cup (Gr 2, 2m) at Ascot after they both featured among the five-day confirmations. The pair took each other on in the Gold Cup (Gr 1, 2m4f) at Royal Ascot in June, with the Michael Bell-trained Big Orange coming out on top that day. Big Orange then went on to run second in the Goodwood Cup (Gr 1, 2m) in August, beaten by Stradivarius (Sea The Stars), who also remains

in contention for Saturday’s race. Meanwhile, Sir Michael Stoute has paid a supplementary fee for Group Two winner Dartmouth (Dubawi).

Ribchester confirmed in Queen Elizabeth Stakes A total of 16 high-class horses have been assembled for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Gr 1, 1m) at Ascot on Saturday, headed by the Richard Fahey-trained multiple Group One winner Ribchester (Iffraaj). Aidan O’Brien could have four runners, including multiple Group One winners Churchill (Galileo) and Roly Poly (War Front). Meanwhile, Al Wukair (Dream Ahead), who struck at the highest level on his latest start when landing the Prix Jacques le Marois (Gr 1, 1600m) at Deauville, has been kept in the Group One by trainer Andre Fabre.

Eight for O’Brien in Champion StakesA total of 17 confirmations have been received for Saturday’s Champion Stakes (Gr 1, 1m2f) with trainer Aidan O’Brien responsible for eight of the entries, these headed by multiple Group One winners Highland Reel (Galileo) and Churchill. Sir Michael Stoute has entered dual Group One winner Ulysses (Galileo), while John Gosden has kept Cracksman (Frankel) in the race and he will be looking to secure his first race at elite level. Meanwhile, Godolphin could be represented by Barney Roy (Excelebration), who was kept in at the five-day stage by trainer Richard Hannon.

Journey still on track to retain crownLast year’s winner Journey (Dubawi) heads the field of 15 for the British Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes (Gr 1, 1m4f), for which Alyssa (Sir Percy), trained by Ralph Beckett, has been supplemented. The biggest danger for the John Gosden-trained Journey, who was last seen running second in the Prix Vermeille (Gr 1, 2400m), could come from stablemate Coronet (Dubawi), who won the Ribblesdale Stakes (Gr 2, 1m4f) at Royal Ascot in June, and French challenger Bateel (Dubawi), who beat Journey in the Qatar Prix Vermeille last time.

Harry Angel and Caravaggio to clash Trainer Clive Cox has said Harry Angel (Dark Angel) is in peak condition ahead of his run in

the British Champions Sprint (Gr 1, 6f). The three-year-old is one of five Group One winners who could line up in the race, with Caravaggio (Scat Daddy), Quiet Reflection (Showcasing), Brando (Pivotal) and The Tin Man (Equiano), who won the race last year, all left in at the five-day confirmation stage yesterday. "We were thrilled with his performance at Haydock,” Cox told Sporting Life. “He’s come back absolutely fine and the time scale between then and Champions Day is perfect. We’ve had a chance to see if he’s in good order and keep him in good order. He’s in a good frame of mind and we are very happy with him.”

Ultra to Haras du LogisGroup One winner Ultra will join his sire Manduro (Monsun) at Haras du Logis, where he will be offered at an introductory fee of €7,000. Ultra won four of his six starts, including the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (Gr 1, 1600m) at Longchamp in October 2015 and amassed €284,090 in career prize money. "Ultra is a strong horse with particularly impressive conformation," said Sam Bullard, director of stallions for Darley. "He's a record-breaking champion two-year-old with Classic bloodlines and I'm sure breeders will be delighted when they see him at Haras du Logis.”

Al Wukair and Zelzal to stand at BouquetotGroup One winners Al Wukair (Dream Ahead) and Zelzal (Sea The Stars) will join the Haras de Bouquetot roster in Normandy next year. A winner of four of his six career starts, Al Wukair landed his first Group One race when taking out the Prix Jacques le Marois on 13 August, while Zelzal’s finest hour came when he took out the Prix Jean Prat (Gr 1, 1600m) in July 2016. “We're delighted to extend our stallion roster in 2018 and to welcome, in addition to Toronado, two such fine prospects as Zelzal and Al Wukair,” said Bouquetot stud manager Benoit Jeffroy. Covering fees for the Bouquetot roster will be announced early next month.

Super mare gets cash in Schillaci

Popular trainer, Andrew Noblet, was fairly hopeful of success with Super Cash heading into Saturday’s Group Two Keno Kwikpik Schillaci Stakes over 1100m at Caulfield.

After all, Noblet’s 5YO mare had won on debut as a 2YO back in July 2015, ran third in the Group Three Typhoon Tracy in her first run at three, scored at Caulfield when resuming at four and won the Group Two Rubiton Stakes - over the Schillaci journey - in February. A pretty good first up record by any stretch!

“She’s just a terrific mare who rarely puts in a bad run,” Noblet points out. “Super Cash was absolutely flying heading into the (Group One) Moir Stakes (won by She Will Reign) a fortnight ago, but we had to miss that run and it’s been something of a balancing act to keep her in peak form … making sure you don’t do too much or too little.

“Anyway, given that she always seems to produce first up, along with drawing barrier two in the Schillaci, I was pretty confident on Saturday.”

With Katelyn Mallyon on board for the Group Two, Super Cash settled fourth before putting in a challenge at the 200m and then holding on gamely to score in a photo.

The daughter of Written Tycoon has now raced on 17 occasions for five wins (also a Listed Moomba Plate), five placings and $636,250 in stakes on behalf of owners Steve Millar and Peter Robinson.

“We’ll probably wait until the end of the week before deciding where she (Super Cash) heads to next, but there’s any number of

options,” Noblet explains. “She’s paid up for the (Group One Ladbrokes) Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley on 28 October, there’s the mares’ race (Group Three Begonia Belle) down the Flemington straight on Derby Day or the (Group One) Darley Classic (1200m) on the final day of the Melbourne Cup carnival.”

One thing is for certain, it’s been a remarkable 12 months for Noblet who also captured his first Group One success, via Silent Sedition, in March’s William Reid Stakes.

“I started out in Adelaide with Leon Macdonald and came across to Melbourne in the early 2000s, also spending a few years at Sutton Grange before heading to Caulfield around 12 years ago,” Noblet reveals. “I kicked

off with six boxes but currently have 22 in work and some fantastic owners, including Steve and Peter.

“We’re only a small team but I’m proud of what we’ve achieved. We’ve got some nice horses coming through, including - eventually - the yearling full sister to Super Cash.”

Super Cash is the third winner from Dash For Cash mare, Super Bucks, who hails from a European black type family and a multiple winner in her own right.

“Peter (Robinson) and I raced Super Bucks with Lindsay Park but she had some issues and they couldn’t get the work into her, so we sent her up to Gregory Macfarlane at Gosford in NSW,” Steve Millar explains.

“She ended up winning three races for us - only country races - but she’s really found her niche at stud. Her first foal, Super Tycoon, won seven races, including four in a row in Sydney, the next foal was Super Cash and the one after that was Fast Tycoon, who has won a couple, including one in Melbourne. All three by Written Tycoon.

“She’s also got some other promising types coming through which is very encouraging.”

Millar and his wife, Kay, along with son, Matthew, have been involved in the industry for 15 years and breed from 11 mares, while having interests in 17 racehorses.

“We race all of Super Bucks’s progeny with Peter, but I also have quite a number in partnership with Cornerstone Stud and other owners,” Millar adds. “We’re over the moon with Super Cash’s win in the Schillaci and, of course, her Rubiton victory earlier this year.

“Andrew has done a remarkable job with Super Cash and we’ve had a lot of success with him.

“Kay, Matthew and I have been fortunate to race a few good horses along the way, including The Fuzz (Group Two Blamey Stakes, Group Three Geelong Cup and three other wins), but Super Cash is probably the pick of the bunch.”

So, why Written Tycoon for Super Bucks?“Matthew really liked Written Tycoon from the very start and when

he went to stud he encouraged me to buy a share in him. He’s certainly worked well with Super Bucks and I’m happy to say that we got the thumbs up recently and she’s back in foal to him this spring.”

Originally standing at a fee of $8,250 when retiring to stud in 2007, Written Tycoon has produced 21 stakes winners - including 2016 Golden Slipper winner, Capitalist - and now resides at Woodside Park in Victoria where he is currently working his way through a large book of mares at a fee of $88,000.

Macau’s latest boom horse Sacred Missile (Smart Missile) made it four wins from as many starts when he

simply destroyed his opponents in the Class Three over 1350 metres on the all weather surface on Friday night.

With Ruan Maia in the saddle for the first time, the son of Smart Missile (Fastnet Rock) stepped away from the gates much better than his previous slow beginnings, and found himself travelling sweetly off the speed in fourth spot. The gelding rolled forward on the circle to the turn under a hold, but was forced very wide by the errant Modena Favorite (Starcraft) who was on one rein. Maia didn’t panic however and once he balanced the four-year-old powered away for a five and a half length victory.

Trainer Joe Lau a man usually reserved with his opinions could not hide his delight after the win.

“That was some sort of a win. I didn’t really expect that as he is not fully fit yet.”

“He is also very immature he is still only just learning what it’s all about.”

Lau has no immediate plans mapped out other than to turn his attention to the turf.

“I’ll look at the turf with him maybe step him up to 1500 metres. That’s the way to go if we are going to be looking at the four year old classics next year.

“Breeding wise it should not be an issue.” He added.

Sacred Missile’s sire Smart Missile in his short career was a winner of the Todman Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) and was placed second in the Golden Rose (Gr 1, 1400m) both at Rosehill. His dam Hula Here is by Dehere (Deputy Minister) and has plenty of stoutness in her bloodlines with both the great Secretariat (Bold Ruler) and a Doomben Cup (Gr 1, 2200m) winner Marceau (Kaoru Star) in her bloodlines.

Lau also trained Sacred Missile’s half brother Sacred Hustler ( Hussonet) to four straight wins on the sand in Macau from his first four starts, before later in his career winning the Chairman’s Challenge Cup (Listed, 1200m) on the turf. Sacred Hustler unlike the layback Sacred Missile was pure speed and did not win beyond 1200 metres.

Mauritian jockey Akash Aucharuz enjoyed a good night with a winning double on Friday to put him on three wins for the new season.

Aucharuz was seen to advantage on Premier Choice (Hidden Choice) in the Maiden over 1050 metres for trainer Alan Tam in the first of the night. Premier Choice showed good speed away from the gates to park off the early leader Sparkling Buddy (More Than Ready) before darting away inside the two hundred for an easy win.

The former NSW Provincial galloper Grexit (All American) was the second of Aucharuz’s winner’s when he showed a complete turnaround in form to score a strong win in the Class Four over 1050 metres.

Grexit had been well supported the week prior on the turf in a good quality Class Three over 1200 metres but never fired at all. Friday night was his second run on the sand his first attempt was in mid August when not fit. The son of All American (Red Ransom) has a strong sand pedigree on both sides and had trialled respectably in two all weather barrier trials, but was still sent out friendless at odds S$244.00.

The four-year-old’s time was neat enough for the way the track rode on the night at 1:02.5 and he looks to have found his niche on the all weather.

By Harry Troy @anz_news

Sacred Missile booms

Grexit’s only win in New South Wales when raced by prominent owner Alan Bell was a Maiden at Wyong when prepared by Kris Lees. Time however is a wonderful thing and here he is 12 months later bigger stronger and on surface that he is going to continue to progress up through the ranks on.

Filipino horseman Breinell Yamzon was back in the winners list on Friday night after a lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury.

Yamzon who fell from Master Of Assayer (Duke Of Marmalade) breaking his hand back in March, has only been back for three race days and bought the well named The Whirlwind (Henrythenavigator) home with a flying finish to win the Class One and Two Handicap (1510m).

It’s been a long time between victories for the USA bred son of Henrythenavigator (Kingmambo), with his last win way back in February 2016. In between that have been some huge runs in elite company and a few luckless ones at that.

However it all fell into place for the six year on Friday night with a good solid tempo and a lovely ride by Yamzon after getting some inconvenience in the early stages from the riderless Winter Snow (Sepoy). Yamzon saved plenty of ground hunting inside runs from the back before weaving between runners coming to the turn. A couple of cracks with the whip in the left hand followed by a quick whip change to the right seen The Whirlwind jump out of the ground late to beat Winbeauty Infiniti (More Than Ready), with Best Of Luck (Thorn Park) back in third.
