SportsAbout the GamesThe Commonwealth Games is a sports competition where athletes from the Commonwealth countries compete in different sports.

There are different categories of sports in the Games. Some are indoor – Boxing, Table Tennis and Weightlifting – and some are outdoor – Athletics, Hockey and the Cycling Road Race.

You can also see Water Sports or Aquatics in the swimming pool. Athletes dive into the pool to see who is the best diver. Other athletes swim as fast as they can to win the race.

The first Commonwealth Games were held in 1930 in Hamilton, Canada. Eleven countries sent 400 athletes to take part in six sports and 59 events. The last Games took place in Delhi, India in 2010. Seventy-one countries sent 4,352 athletes to compete in 17 sports and 272 events!
