Chrysler Groups 3.6-liter PentastarV-6 engine winner of the prestigiousWards 10 Best Engines award delivers285 horsepower (209 kW) and 260 lb.-ft. of torque (353 Nm), with greater

fuel efficiency. The improvement, whencompared to the previous 3.8-liter V-6engine, is 40 percent in horsepower and10 percent in torque. Additionally, forrefined shifting and greater performance,the Jeep Wrangler migrates from a four-speed to a new five-speed automatictransmission. The 2012 Jeep Wrangleralso features the companys firstapplication of a manual transmission tothe Pentastar V-6.

in four models: Sport, Sport S, Sahara

Engineering

The 2012 Jeep Wrangler deliverunmatched off-road capability witlegendary four-wheel drive and i

produced with more than seven decadeof 4x4 engineering experience. Wranglecontinues to offer a body-on-fram

design, front and rear five-link suspensionsystem, live axles, electronic lockers, and

is one of the few mid-size SUVs that offersa six-speed manual transmission inaddition to its new five-speed automatictransmission.

The new automatic transmissionbenefits the 2012 Wrangler as much asthe new engine with more refined shiftingand gear selection. By increasing thenumber of speeds from four to five, thetransmission allows the engine to operatein a more efficient RPM range, whichhelps increase fuel economy. More speedsalso enable the engine to remain in thetorque curve, increasing acceleration.The 2012 Jeep Wrangler boasts a 25-

percent improvement in 060 mph time,which is now 8.4 seconds. Also, a lowerfirst-gear ratio in the new automatictransmission gives the Wrangler more off-road capability via a lower overall crawlratio.

Jeep Wrangler is now available withmore axle gear ratios allowing customersto optimize fuel economy and/or vehiclecapability. Wrangler is available with 3.21,3.73 or 4.10 ratios depending on model.

Also, Wrangler offers towing capabilityup to 3,500 lbs.

A best-in-class approach angle of 44.6degrees, breakover angle of 25.5 degrees

and best-in-class departure angle of 40.6degrees, helps the Jeep Wrangler scalethe toughest terrain.

The capable driveline of the Sportand Sahara models include a Dana 30front axle and Dana 44 rear axle. TheCommand-Trac NV241, part-time, two-speed transfer case, features a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio. In addition, an optionalTrac-Lok limited-slip rear differential

provides extra torque and grip in low-traction environments such as sand, mudor snow.

The Wrangler Rubicon model featuresheavy-duty Dana 44 front and rear axlesand the Rock-Trac NV241 two-speedtransfer case with a 4.0:1 low-range gearratio. Rubicon also includes electricfront and rear locking differentials,disconnecting front sway bar and 32-inchtires, taking the Wrangler to the highestlevel of capability.

DesignIn 2011, Jeep introduced an all-new

interior to Wrangler that combines richstyling, versatility, comfort and improvedfeature use. Highlights include upgraded

materials, automatic temperaturcontrols, heated seats, power mirror

and steering wheel controls for vehiclsystems. Larger rear windows arengineered for greater visibility. A USB

port connects to the media center, 12-voaccessory outlets are located throughouthe Wrangler and a 115-volt AC outlet iavailable to power select two-prongehome electronics.

QualityThe 2012 Jeep Wrangler underwent

millions of durability testing miles duringdevelopment in the companys scientificlabs, at its proving grounds and on publicroads in various climates.

The Wranglers 3.6-liter V-6 Pentastarengine recorded more than 12 millioncustomer-equivalent miles on enginedynamometers prior to production.Testing was increased by 50 percent

compared to previous Chrysler Group V-6engines, to guarantee a long life againstsevere conditions and accommodate high-load applications such as trailer towing.Reducing noise, vibration and harshnesswas a key objective for every enginecomponent and was achieved usingadvanced computer-aided engineeringtechniques.

A s t h e Wr a n g l e r a p p r o a c h edproduction, the company also tested dayand night, on- and off-road to put theequivalent of three years of wear and tearon the vehicle in approximately threemonths time. This accelerated testingoccurred on public roads, paved andunpaved, in an attempt to find and fixany issues before the first SUVs weredelivered to customers. The test driverschecked all the functional aspectsof the vehicle, such as heating andcooling, window operation, convertibleand removable hardtop operation andnavigation system.

ManufacturingThe 2012 Jeep Wrangler and Jeep

Wrangler Unlimited are built in the ToledoSupplier Park in Toledo, Ohio. The plantfeatures the flexibility to integrate theall-new powertrain with the addition ofnew engine carriers and transmission liftequipment.

The 3.6-liter V-6 engine is manufacturedat the Trenton engine plant in Michigan.The five-speed automatic transmissionis produced in Kokomo, Indiana (ITP2),

and the manual six-speed transmission iproduced in Gaggenau, Germany.

presence in the City of Kingston. Thefacility will be just minutes away fromInterstate 40 and is expected to employnearly 50 people.
