Purpose Statement: Magnifying The Word of God By fulfilling The Great Commandment. To Love The Lord Our God and Our Neighbor, Mobilizing The People of God By Fulfilling The Great Commission to Go make Disciples, Baptize and Teach.

Serve God with Spiritual Gifts

“3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. 4 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not allhave the same function, 5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; 7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; 8 the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. 9 Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. 10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. 11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. 12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.” Romans 12:3-13

P astor's ParagraphsIn these paragraphs I really want to summarize what I have been saying each month about “looking like Jesus.”

We should -we are the body of Christ. Yes- that is the church as a whole but that is you and I together finding our place as a member of the body and faithfully functioning together there. That should “look like Jesus!”

We’ve looked at how Jesus begins it -( Matthew 16:18) And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And builds it - and balances it - Acts 2:42-47. (42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.)

Sunday, June 26 I plan to talk about one of the hardest places of balance for the church.

Jesus says about what He begins and builds that “the gates of hell will not prevail against it.” The contemporary church’s tendency is to build gates and walls and hope evil doesn’t get in. The problem with that is - that is contrary to the biblical strategy! “Gates” are a defensive weapon - “The gates of hell” not prevailing against us, means that we are to pound those gates with the gospel! They can’t stand “prevail.” Instead, in the name of Holiness and Sanctification we insulate ourselves from anything “unholy” and isolate ourselves from the precious souls that God wants to save! That’s just so contrary to what Jesus did! John 1:14 says ... And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory asof the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. We tend to look much more like the scribes and pharisees - with all of our religious rules that we say we believe but don’t do. And we look much less like Jesus who engaged people, touched and healed sick folk, ate with and forgave sinners, accepted and loved children and was never less holy for all of that!

All that was more than the religious folk of Jesus’ day could handle so they killed Him. And I have noticed that the more a church looks like the true Jesus the more the scribes and pharisees come out to condemn it.

Holy means to be set apart for a particular purpose. Jesus was all that and never became “unholy” or polluted, He just made holy and gave real life to everything He touched. That is where ... “faith works itself out in love.” (Galatians 5:6)

It’s Mobilization Time! We must each find our place in the body and function there!! Pastor Mark

SAY 'Y.E.S.' to 'V.B.S.'!! Our SUBMERGED dive 'beneath the surface' was June 20 thru 24and it was FANTASTIC!! A big THANK YOU to the Forty-Nine (yes, 49) people who helped make this outreach a success – teachers, rotational leaders, and helpers (this included 15 youth!!). We had 8 children ask to receive Christ; received enough offering to cover shipping cost for over 56 OCC boxes; gave a HUGE box of school supplies to Del Rio Elementary thru the Missions rotation; and had between 60 and 67 children in attendance. Thank you also to Bob Dickey and the faithful people who prayed for VBS. And "Thank You" is way inadequate a sentiment forthe faithful five ladies of the Galley crew: Carlene, Sis, Pat, Lynda, and Grace. Each day they arrived early, stayed late, and prepared all the food for Family Night. We are surely blessed to have these ladies a part of our church.

Hi Folks! I hope you're ready for a great summer. Me, I'm thinking about going to the coast to visit my cousins. Wish me safe travels?

June was a great month! VBS, Fathers Day, men's advance, and so many other yummy things! I snuck a ride, shhhhh! to Shirley Buckner's house for the WMU meeting /lunch. Lots of good food, though not many crumbs. Those ladies are so neat. Their next meeting is a baby shower at Kate Donaldson's on July 7th. They say all ladies are welcome to come. I believe it's a pot luck. Sigh, I think I'll miss it since I'll be at my cousin's.

Sunday school will continue all summer for all ages. Come and find a class, they havea lot of great teachers.

They'll also be collecting for OCC as an ongoing ministry, so if you haven't started your boxes yet, it's a good time to do it. Toothpaste and candy are still okay this year, but next year they won't. I guess when the boxes sit for awhile, they attract vermin. (I promise, I would never go near one!) Also, some countries consider it food and won't allow it in.

Well foIks I hope you have a great summer and I'll catch up in the fall!

NOTICE.. In the June Business meeting Sunday night the 26th the church voted to cease regular Sunday night services and reserve that night for special events that are planned and publicized. The 5th Sundaysing and share will continue. The next one will be July31.

As a deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for you God. Psalm 42:1

Man is it hot this summer! Record heat and no rain in sight. I’ve struggled to keep my garden alive, much less grow and produce fruit. All those wonderfully beautiful fields that wereso green in spring, are now just dried up brown dust plots. The summer heat just dries out all the life around us, leaving everything thirsty for water.

Often times our spiritual life resembles a garden. Sometimes producing fruit, other times were barely surviving. And then there are times when we’ve become dried out completely and are just a dust bowl that appears to be lacking any life what so ever. In John chapter 4:7-14 Jesus meets with a woman of Samaria. Jesus explains to us that all who believe in Him as Lord and savior, their soul shall never thirst. You see, Jesus is the Life water that our spirit needs to not only grow, but to also flourish. Often times when we find ourselvesin a position of life where it feels like we are just becoming lost or even dead inside, what we need is to allow Jesus to restore our soul. Like a refreshing glass of ice water on a hot summerday, Jesus can restore us back to life. He is the water that gives all living things under the sun life. This includes us. We need our walk with Christ to be as dependent on Him as rain in summer, or even that much necessary needed glass of water on a hot day. "So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened. (Luke 11:9-10 NASB) All we have to do is seek Jesus, and He will come restore us.

In 1 Samuel 27-30:5 we see where King David made some life choices that almost cost him his life. Like a beautiful field that was full of flowers and life, David made some decisions that slowly began to dry up his spirit and his walk with God. David’s life looked like a dried out field that appears to be dead of all life. But, when King David was almost done in due to his poor choices, he humbled himself before God and was strengthened anew, restored, revived.

Where are you right now in your walk of life? Are you a growing garden? Are you tired and withering? Or are you a dried out desert? We all need Jesus and His life flowing water that keeps us strong and healthy. Do you know Him? If you want to know more about Jesus and the water of life that is so desperately needed, come join us on Thursday nights at 6:45pm at 1st Southern Baptist Church of Chino Valley to learn more about having a growing, healthy walk with Christ.
