Eligibility

Org on Bb • Activate your EagleHire account – Login through ERNIE– Complete the profile information– Upload a resume

• MEET with a Program Manager for a mandatory advisement session (failure to do so will mean that you are ineligible to register for co-op/internship credit)

• Follow the Co-op To Do List (CSO org on Bb)


Mandatory Advising SessionSchedule Before You Leave Campus

We will:• Verify eligibility and review transcripts• Review your resume and cover letter; upload documents

before session• Require you to sign the Student Agreement • Answer questions• Provide access to co-op/internship positions in EagleHire


Student Agreement

• Read and understand your ethical and co-op process responsibilities and regulations

• Clarifies ethical issue of interviewing and accepting positions

• Agree to adhere to Value statements listed in Student Handbook

• Must sign to participate in the Co-op/Intern Program. SIGN ONE TODAY!


Application Process

EagleHire• Apply only to positions for which you meet the

requirements• Adhere to the listed deadlines and instructions

Self-created Co-op/Internships• Position must be relevant and must be approved by the

Co-op Advisor for your degree program• You need to be proactive in identifying

self-created positions


Find Opportunities

• Search through EagleHire• Apply via company websites• Network with your connections• Participate in professional organizations, on-campus

events, research, conferences • Read final internship papers on Bb• Utilize Career Services resources and services


Application Paperwork

• Application documents must be submitted to individual positions by due dates listed in EagleHire

• All required documents must be uploaded to EagleHire and approved in order for you to submit your application paperwork

• Submit additional documents as required by individual companies


After You Apply

• Wait patiently!• If selected for an interview, the process may

be on-campus, via phone, Skype or at the company site

• Majority of the interviews will be during February and March


Ways to Increase Your Odds

• Treat all interactions with a potential employer seriously• Apply to as many companies as you are interested in via

EagleHire and Self-Created • Practice your interview skills and arrange for a mock

interview or use InterviewStream• Have a professional email address and outgoing

voicemail message• Print copies of the position descriptions when you apply,

so you can reference them before an interview


The Reality

• Unfortunately, an application does not guarantee a co-op/internship

• Companies make all hiring decisions• Positions are subject to budget allowances; number

of positions available; applicants pursuing the opening

• Many companies recruit from schools other than Embry-Riddle

After You Accept an Offer

• Provide Career Services with the official offer letter or email offer

• Before you leave, you MUST do a contract with our office for registration in order to earn the maximum number of academic credits

• NO BACKDATING of co-op/internship credit is allowed• Contract signing meeting will be held towards the end of

April


Course Credit

• Open elective credit is earned for co-op or internship work term

• Complete internship assignment by the due date– Final paper, supervisor’s evaluation and additional

assignments as required by your Co-op Advisor due one week prior to end of classes

• Pass or fail grade will be assigned• Must work 13 weeks during summer semester to

earn full credit


Course Credit Details

Undergraduate Students• 1 open elective credit hour for every 100 hours of

work completed • 13 weeks in summer/600 hours = max of 6 credits Graduate Students• 1 credit hour elective for every 200 hours of work

completed • 13 weeks in summer/600 hours = max of 3 credits


Other Credit Considerations

• Co-op/Intern open elective credit MAY be substituted for Tech/Spec Elective with approval of Faculty Co-op Advisor

• Technical or Specified Elective Credit (is not guaranteed)– MAY be substituted – in some degree programs

(AS, AE, CE, CIV, CS, EP, EE, ME, SE)– Will be determined by co-op advisor AFTER the

co-op/internship is completed and a passing grade has been assigned. Student requests course substitution.


Internship & Academic Policy

• Undergraduate students registered for full-time academics may take part-time co-op/internship (up to 3 credits), must get approval over 16 credits (not to exceed 18 credit hours)

• Undergraduate students registered for full-time co-op/internship may take 2 academic classes simultaneously

• Graduate students registered for full-time internship may take 1 academic class simultaneously


Additional Policies

• Co-op/internship must be completed BEFORE graduation

• Possibly delay graduation to participate in a co-op/internship (not applicable to International students)

Co-op tuition = cost of one credit hour ($1152)

• Additional $50 fee for International students• May receive up to 6 credits (undergrad) and 3

credits (grad) but only pay for 1 credit hour


Additional Costs to Consider

• Housing is your responsibility unless the company provides it– Housing resources: past interns, company

references, company employees, online resources• Travel/transportation costs• Incidentals

International Students• MUST SIGN A CO-OP CONTRACT in order to maintain legal

status in the U.S. and get WORK AUTHORIZATION (Curricular Practical Training – CPT)

• Once contract is signed, must take contract copies to the SEVIS Administrator to have your I-20 reissued. Start and end date required.

• The address of the company where you will physically be working and beginning and end dates of work experience must be provided

• Immigration status (F1 Visa) may be revoked if you work without authorization


Ethics and Professionalism

You are expected to maintain ethical and professional standards at all times.

Why does this matter? A company’s impression of Embry-Riddle students and the

entire University community is based on the impression you leave. Any negative issues could jeopardize the University’s relationship and your own relationship with the company

and industry.


• Be truthful in all statements, documents and applications• You may NOT interview with another company if you

have accepted a position (verbal or written acceptance)for that term

• If you accept a co-op/internship, you cannot back out on your commitment for a “better” position

• Good ethical conduct requires that you fulfill your commitments


Professionalism

• Be prepared at all times – interactions with potential employers via company information sessions, phone calls and email affect your co-op/internship search

• Ensure you follow all etiquette rules; have an appropriate outgoing voicemail; answer phone calls professionally

Professional Dress for Career Fair

Professional attire is expected for attendance at the Career Fair• Suits• Gentlemen: button down shirts and ties• Ladies: conservative or appropriate blouses• Colors for shirts should be muted like white, off-white or light blue• Shoes should be polished and professional

The minimum professional dress is business casual. Flight and ROTC uniforms are appropriate Career Fair dress. Religious and cultural attire will be accepted.
