Spring 2016 EOPS/CARE Santiago Canyon College Director’s Message Welcome to Spring 2016! Students I wish I had the words to express how grateful I am to be the EOPS/ CARE/CalWORKs Director because I feel privileged to be serving such a great population. I am most impressed by the fact that all of you have a story, a story of survival, a story of being the first in your family to go to college, of juggling work, home, some of you are parents/single parents and so many other roles each of you have in your day to day living, yet, you make every effort to continue your education! You should feel very proud of the day to day effort you make. I know that sometimes you just want to quit, but please don’t! Think of what you have already accomplished, think that although you will face sleepless nights, frustrations, lack of understanding in some courses, we are here to guide you and to make sure you succeed. Please take advantages of the services we offer to you and please con- tinue to make the com- mitment that you made to yourself of completing an education. Please continue to believe in yourself because all of us in the EOPS office believe that each of you can and will complete your educational goals! As an EOPS/CARE student you need to be aware of your responsibilities, which are outlined in the Mutual Responsibility Contract. We are expecting you to attend classes on time, complete all assignments on time, take advantage of the tutoring center, writing center, MASH, library, career services, transfer success center, professor office hours and the many more resources available for you. Please know that our mission is to make sure that each of you succeed at SCC. We are here to guide you in your educational journey at SCC but we can’t do it alone we need you to let us know how we can help. Make sure you attend your three required counseling appointment, turn in your faculty feedback form on time in order to attend Early Scheduling which gives you the opportunity to participate in priority registration. There are many academic changes taking place at the State level, changes such as when to declare a major, having a comprehensive educational plan on file, the possibility of you losing your fee waiver if your GPA falls below 2.00, the amount of times you are allowed to repeat a class and many other requirements that you need to be fully aware of. So, when in doubt ask us. Again, I wish each of you a very successful semester.
