Dear Members,
The Club finished the year with successes throughout and culminated by record usage of our restaurant facilities for Decem-
ber. Planning during the past year resulted in the commencement of initiatives changing the physical facility which included golf, res-
taurant, kitchen, board room, ladies locker room, and pavilion. These initiatives resulted from the efforts of the Long Range Planning
Committee’s focus group meetings. This committee, co-chaired by Tim O’Reilly and Cary Toner, remains in place and continues to
look at future needs and opportunities for the Club.
Additionally, the Club completed the appropriate documentation to change the corporate structure from a Limited Partnership to a Lim-
ited Liability Company, ensuring the continuation of management, process of elections and administration of the Club in perpetui-
ty. Work to complete the multi-faceted documentation throughout the year was accomplished through the continuing efforts of the Cor-
porate Structure Committee, Tim Barnard, Gary Daniels, Jack May, Joe Waterman, and Bill Webb. This work was done in conjunction
with outside counsel. The documents that need to be completed for non-equity members to upgrade to equity, or for membership appli-
cants to become equity members, will be available in the next few weeks.
The Club did not shut down in January. Kitchen additions and modifications, resulting from input by Doug Hill and Brad Clark, were
executed with purchasing and installation oversight by Doug Hill. These changes were necessary to maintain and to provide the quality
product deserving of our membership.
The ladies locker room renovation has been completed and was the result of design work by Anne Marcelli and our designer. This de-
signer is also providing expertise for the new board room, bistro and men’s grill.
Jared Viarengo is managing construction for the Golf Performance Center and the approval process by East Goshen Township. Don
Pohlig is assisting with the project along with Peter Batchelor who is providing the necessary architectural and construction documents.
The Golf Performance Center design was a product of collaboration and visitations of other facilities and research in the technological
area that was headed up by Gary Daniels, Dave McNabb, and Peter Batchelor.
Jack May, along with Nick Zammer, led the design and construction of the winterization project for the pavilion for year-round usage.
Delays resulting from an arduous permitting process have required reconsidering the commencement of construction of the bistro and
men’s grill. It was initially anticipated that work would commence in January when the Club was closed through the early months of
spring which would provide the least amount of disruption. Unfortunately, we are anticipating the final permitting which will be re-
ceived the first week of March. This would have required construction through the spring and potentially into early summer. This delay
results in the suspension of construction with a start-up to be scheduled in January, 2019.
What is most impressive when we review the design work that we entered into this year was the involvement by our board and other
members who provided invaluable expertise and time which will be represented in the finished product.
As part of our continuing goal to strengthen the amenities of our golf and equity membership efforts, and to provide additional long-term
financial and usage opportunities for our equity members, reciprocal golf privileges with Lookaway Golf Club in Buckingham, PA have
been arranged. While Lookaway is not a direct competitor of ours, it is a quality golfing experience similar to Applebrook. This ar-
rangement will be administered by the pro shop, and the only charges members will be responsible for are carts and caddies and food
and beverage. Hopefully, this is the beginning of other reciprocal arrangements that will fit the quality and geographical attributes nec-
essary for a mutually beneficial relationship.

2018 MEN’S AND LADIES EVENTS
The 2018 tournament and event schedules have been emailed to the membership and are also posted on our web-
site. Tournament registration will begin on April 1. Our men’s GAP team will once again compete in the AA divi-
sion for the overall championship. Our ladies WGAP team is enjoying continued success and will compete in the
17th Cup for the 2018 season. Best of luck to all our participants in the year ahead.

GOLF PERFORMANCE CENTER UPDATE
Construction of the Golf Performance Center is underway and moving
along nicely. Shown here is the site being prepared for the footers to be
poured upon which the foundation will be built. Estimates for construction
are 3 ½ - 4 months barring any unforeseen circumstances. The Golf Perfor-
mance Center will be equipped with the latest technology with the goal of a
state-of-the-art facility to enhance your game through practice, properly fit
equipment and instruction. We will continue to keep you updated as pro-
gress continues.
THE SEASON IS FAST APPROACHING
There are many exciting things to watch for in 2018.
Score posting for handicap purposes begins April 1. Any rounds played prior to April 1 played at an in-season
course must be posted.

PROFESSIONAL STAFF MEMBERS
In addition to Jeremy, Anne, Rick and Dan, Shawn Bradley will be returning again for the 2018 season.
Shawn spent this past winter at Jupiter Hills in Jupiter, FL. Shawn will be joined by Evan Cravener who
comes to us most recently from The Loxahatchee Club also in Jupiter. Evan recently graduated from Cali-
fornia University of Pennsylvania. Evan has also worked the past two seasons at St. Clair CC in Upper St.
Clair, PA and at Wannamoisett CC in Rumford, RI. We are excited to have Shawn back and welcome
Evan to our team!

The new golf season is upon us. This time of the year the weather tends to be so unpredictable – we don’t
know if we should be sending mowers out to cut or putting the plow back on the plow truck. The weather this
winter has kept us indoors many days, so we are caught up on most of our indoor winter chores. We got a late
start on our railroad tie projects and are currently working on the walking path from #16 green. Late in the sea-
son, we were able to complete some tree removal around #1 tees. This will increase safety and allow additional
sunlight in the spring to our turfgrass. The plan is to continue to remove some of the more massive trees, prior-
itizing ones that are in decline.
In early February, I was fortunate to once again attend our Golf Industry Show in San Antonio, Texas. This
year, I attended with our Golf Course Superintendent, Matt Lipinski, our Assistant Superintendent Ryan
Thomas, and our Equipment Technician, Brad Bartlett. While at the conference, we all attended educational
seminars, networked with peers, and spent time on the trade show floor perusing the latest and greatest in turf
equipment – and anything and everything from a golf operations standpoint. A fairway roller that we have
been looking at for the last year or so is almost ready for production, and I am planning on purchasing it once
it becomes available. We will use this on certain days that we do not mow fairways for dew removal, turf
health and overall improvement in the playability of the fairways. Fairway rolling is becoming a more com-
mon practice on golf courses in the last few years, and equipment manufacturers are beginning to make equip-
ment to accommodate this practice. Turf managers roll fairways for the same reasons that they roll greens –
while there is a host of agronomic benefits, golfers enjoy the increased firmness and ball roll. Stay tuned!
Some fantastic projects are underway at the Club. After a lengthy approval process and uncooperative weather,
the Golf Performance Center is under construction. I believe this cutting-edge facility will be ready for our
members to use by the time summer arrives. Our new board room is also under construction with completion
anticipated within 90 days. A decision has been made, due to a 90 day delay in permitting, to postpone con-
struction of the bistro and men’s grill until January, 2019.
Now is the time that we start looking forward to the upcoming season. The golf maintenance plan itself never
changes substantially; our goal is always to have the best-conditioned golf course in the Philadelphia area. We
continually work to refine our programs and improve efficiencies, however, the part that still keeps us guess-
ing is the weather. It has such a significant influence over everything that we do that we just don’t know what
to expect – as a team, we hope for the best and plan for the worst that Mother Nature can throw at us.

CLUBHOUSE NEWS
Spring is quickly approaching and hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate with great weather so we can enjoy
more time outside. The weather has been comfortable over the last few weeks, which has allowed some play
on the course and enjoyable times at Applebrook. We look forward to a great season!
During shutdown, our Management Team spent a lot of time at the Club to get ready for the year. We re-
vamped our Menus, Banquet Packages and put together our Social Calendar, all of which are on the website
and included in this newsletter. We conducted trainings with our team to set the tone for a great season and
will continue to do so throughout the year. I would like to thank Theresa Paynter, Andy Baccile, Brad Clark
and Damion Green for their hard work and efforts during shutdown so we can get off to a great start this year.
We have great events coming up this Spring. In March, we will offer great St. Patrick’s
Day specials on Friday and Saturday the 16th and 17th. Sunday, the 18th, we will have a
Spring Brunch Buffet to kick off the Spring season. On the 31st, we will have Breakfast
with the Bunny, which I highly recommend reservations. Easter is on April 1st this year.
We will have seating at 11:30 and 4:00 p.m. for the holiday in order to maximize our seat-
ing. Hopefully the weather will cooperate with the start of the Spring so we can enjoy
more time on the golf course.
It is not too early to reserve your Spring Event here at Applebrook. We would love to have
you out at the Club for your special luncheon or dinner special occasion. Graduation,
Shower, Confirmation and Communion season is around the corner and availability will

CULINARY CORNER
The Embodiment of the American Bistro and the American Gastropub
The American bistro is a restaurant trend that has been developing in this country since French bistro cooking became
popular in the 80’s. French bistros combine the elegance of traditional French cuisine with the casual and familiar
aesthetic of a neighborhood restaurant. In the US this is not an easy combination to successfully pull off and maintain
over an extended period of time, where elegance and creativity is often misconstrued as “fancy”, and American cui-
sine, although very deep in tradition, is still very regional (and often times overlooked in the search for the newest
trends).
The American gastropub, taken from the British gastropub, which is a bar and restaurant that serves high-end beer and
food, seems to have overtaken the bistro and trattoria trends, bridging the gap between “fancy” and casual. The gas-
tropub seems to have most thoroughly captured the public’s attention, easily appealing to a majority who want good,
interesting food and drinks in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. A gastropub can spe-
cialize in a type of cuisine like a classic bistro, but generally meld coherently a com-
bination of styles and flavors that will appeal to a greater number of people. Usual-
ly there is a focus on locally grown, fresh ingredients which change with the sea-
sons. The basic items may be similar to that of a traditional pub or bistro, but are
used in a way as to elevate them from predictable to extraordinary.
I think the premise of a gastropub seamlessly fits American culture today. With
Applebrook’s upcoming venture, my staff and I are looking forward to putting to-
gether a blend of casual, yet imaginative food to be served in the easygoing, rustic
atmosphere that is Applebrook Golf Club.

ANDY’S SPRING BEVERAGES
Just like with the grass, annuals, and perennials, spring time is an exciting time in the wine world. It’s fantastic to see all the wines we tasted and enjoyed last year in their new vintages. I myself love comparing wines across different vintages. It’s amazing to see how much the climate/weather of a given year affects the palate of each new harvested crop. Along with all the new vintages, we also bring in some new wines every Spring to liven up our portfolio. Spring is Rose season (the pastel color alone makes you think of April/May), and we brought in a couple of new producers that should add excitement to our tables. Illahe Rose from Willamette Valley is a Tempranillo-style Rose. Whole-cluster, barrel fermented will make this an easy favorite as the temperature starts to rise and the sun remains high in the sky longer. Fleur de Mer is a much more typical Rose from Provence, France. Expect bright fruit and a little resid-ual sugar, combined with a citrus, tart finish. This is a great bottle to share amongst friends or enjoy by the glass with the sunset. Spring just isn’t for wine lovers either. In the spirits arena, I brought in a new vodka producer from Finland called Koskenkorva. New to Pennsylvania, this producer has been making fantastic, barley-based vodka since 1953. It is wonderful to mix or serve chilled up. Smooth, and delicious, that’s the best way to describe this bottle. And if that doesn’t suit your tastes, as you round your golf game back into mid-season form try one of our new beers. Avery White Rascal, Terrapin Recreation, and Funk Citrus come to mind as new selections that you should see at the club very soon. All will be available in cans and/or draft so make sure you stop by and try some of these sought after suds. Cheers! -Andy

Quick 9 on the Women’s Golf Program
1. The 2018 calendar is out - mark your calendars for opening day on May 3; 12:00 p.m. shotgun followed
by dinner at 5:00 p.m. See the new locker room and meet old and new friends in a fun format of play. Be
sure to also note the new end of season event for EVERYONE, a fall net event tournament in conjunction
with the second day of the Club Championship. Mark your calendars for September 20 and for those par-
ticipating in the Club Championship gross event, add September 19th and 20th.
2. The spring and fall member guests are on the books and feature 1pm shotgun starts with dinner following,
chaired by Lisa Dilullo on May 10 and Mary Griesser on September 13.
3. As requested, on June 18, a Monday late afternoon NEW 9 Hole member guest will be held, with Karen
Doyle as Chair. One guest for each member with a capped field of 40, so sign up early!
4. Gina Glancy as Captain of the Applebrook Team is looking for everyone interested in playing on the GAP
team to register now for the 2018 season. Handicap requirements have been eased so this means maxi-
mum opportunity for all - ask any of the professional staff for information.
5. The very popular nine and wines will again be posted on the tee sheet every Monday from 3:00 pm on.
This is a great opportunity for play and to get to know other members.
6. New this year and on a trial basis, there will be an opportunity to sign up to play 18 holes on Mondays at
1:00 pm and join up with those playing nine holes over wine and snacks.
7. Thursdays will continue to have open tee sheet times for ladies day play starting at approximately 8:30
am. The pro staff has organized a fun format once a month - again a wonderful chance to meet and play
with other Applebrook women.
8. Another season awaits for good golf and a lot of fun! If you are new or thinking about getting back to the
game, ask the professional staff to get started and join this great group! If you are not on the women’s golf
email list, make sure to contact Karen Doyle so you don’t miss out on regular event updates and news.
9. A big thank you to Anne, Dave, Jeremy, Dan, Chef Brad, Doug, Theresa, Andy, all of the staff and all of
