T h i s r e s i d e n c e was a l a r g e shop on t h i s s i t e , w h i c h was bootght by C h a r l e s F . Ga rdne r i n the 1 9 3 0 ' s and c o n v e r t e d t o an a t t r a c t i v e and u n u s u a l h o u s e . I t has h i g h c e i l i n g s and exposed wooden beams. The s tone work i n the c e l l a r s t i l l shows the cour se o f the m i l l s l u i c i n g u sed f o r power . The dam h e r e was o r i g i n a l l y p u t up by Benjamin Nye (house 55) i n e a r l i e s t d a y s . I n 1826 the B o s t o n & Sandwich G l a s s C o . no te s t h a t Deming J a r v e s r a i s e d the dam h i g h e r i n o r d e r to b u i l d a s t a v e f a c t o r y f o r making boxes and b a r r e l s t o pack g l a s s i n . T h i s i s t y p i c a l o f Deming J a r v e s 1 ene rgy and competence . He had a number o f s u b s i d i a r y e n t e r p r i s e s t o s e r v e h i s g l a s s f a c t o r y , such as f o u n d r i e s , c o a s t i n g v e s s e l s and a b r i c k y a r d . A f t e r the g l a s s f a c t o r y c l o s e d i n 1888 , t h i s became a s p e c i a l i z e d g l a s s c u t t i n g p l a n t r u n by V o d o n . I t was the Vodon m i l l f i n a l l y c o n v e r t e d by G a r d n e r .
