This time of year, our thoughts turn to things for which we’re thankful. I am thankful to be a part of the Sandburg community...a place where everyday our children are given many wonderful opportunities to learn from a top-notch teaching staff. I’m thankful for children who come to school ready and eager to learn. I’m thankful for involved families that support our learning. Thanks so much for everything you do to support the educational process at Sandburg. You truly make a difference! Here are some other thoughts on Thanksgiving that I would like to share with you. I read them a few years ago and they made such an impression on me. I have shared them in the Sandburg Sayings before, but thought you might enjoy reading them once again. I am thankful for: ~ the dishes in the sink and the piles of laundry because it means that loved ones are nearby. ~ the taxes that I pay because it means I am employed. ~ the clothes that fit a little too snug because it means I have enough to eat. ~ the spot I find at the end of the parking lot because it means that I’m capable of walking. ~ the complaints I hear about our government because it means we have freedom of speech. ~ the windows and gutters that need cleaned and fixed because it means I have a home. ~ my huge heating bill because it means that I am warm. ~ weariness at the end of the day because it means that I have been productive. ~ the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours because it means that I am alive. Have a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving. Take a minute to reflect on the things that you are thankful for in your life. Let your children know that you are thankful for them! Respect Yourself! Respect Others! Respect Property! The Good Citizen SkyZone Trip To recognize the boys and girls who make good choices throughout the month of December, we’ll be taking them on a Good Citizen fieldtrip to SkyZone on the morning of December 20. To be eligible to attend, students must: ~ Consistently show respect toward themselves, others, and property. (including turning in homework on time!) ~ Return a signed permission slip. (It will be in the Wednesday folder after Thanksgiving.) The cost for each student to attend is $11.00. Please send this money in with your child’s permission slip. Students who return a permission slip and money, but who do not show good citizenship throughout December will have their money refunded to their family.

Call your child’s teachersometime this month to see how your child

is progressing since parent/teacher conferences. Better yet,

stop by your child’s classroom and see for yourself. You’re always welcome.

Cold weather is here! Please remember to send your child dressed appropriately. A warm coat, gloves, and a hat are very important. Students should have boots to keep their feet warm and dry as well. Children will be outside in the morning before school and at lunch recess unless the temperature or the wind chill is 10 degrees Fahrenheit or below. We make every effort to give children a daily opportunity to run, play and socialize outdoors with friends. Thank you for your help as we come face to face with Old Man Winter.

Baby, It’s Cold Outside!

There is an unbelievable number of coats, shirts, jackets, and other items of clothing in our lost and found. Please have your child check the huge Lost and Found tub outside the primary girls’ restroom. Parents are welcome to come by school and check for lost items as well. Remember -- the safest way to not end up in the lost and found is to make sure your child’s name is in the garment. Any unclaimed items when we leave for winter break will be given to charity.

Check the Lost and Found! Book Fair Follow-Up

Thanks to your support of the bookfair, we raised $883 to purchase items for our school and classroom libraries! Thank you! Special thanks to Jen Power and her legion of volunteers for all of their help making this year’s bookfair a success! Thanks to each of you for your ongoing support of our bookfair, our music program, and your children’s education! We are truly blessed to have such supportive families at Sandburg!

A Thanksgiving Blessing

At Sandburg, we are thankful for supportive and helpful families. We know the Sandburg PTC is a blessing as well. Consider this:

The average amount spent on Sandburg students by the PTC each year is $22,000.

A child who spends his entire elementary career at Sandburg is here 6 years.

This year we have 266 students.

$22,000 (annual expenses) x 6 (years) / 266 (students) = $496.24 per child over the course of a K-5th grade student's life at Sandburg!

Wow! Thanks Sandburg PTC and Sandburg families! We appreciate you and your support makes an untold difference to our children!

In today’s Wednesday folder is an envelope with your child’s name on it. Can you help our school by selling some Texas Roadhouse gift cards? They’ll arrive just in time for the holidays. A portion of each gift card you purchase will go to Sandburg School. Don’t get your gift cards at the restaurant or at a store…get them from a Sandburg student so you can help our school! Thanks for your help!
