Real wildlife displays will be on-hand to see and touch. Open to all ages. No registration required.

SUMMER TRAILS EXPLORATION PROGRAM (STEP) Step into summer once again with STEP! Back for the second year in a row, residents of all ages are invited to spend the beautiful summer days of Colorado exploring the paved and soft-surface trails that travel through Castle Rock.

This program starts on American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day –Saturday, June 4– and continues through the Labor Day weekend.

The first 50 participants who sign up for STEP this year will receive a free T-shirt celebrating the inaugural year of the program. Submit a completed “passport” tracking the hikes you enjoy this summer and be entered into a grand prize drawing for an outdoor-themed gift. The more sites you visit, the more entries you receive for the drawing.

Get outside, go for a hike and explore! There is an adventure waiting right in your own backyard!

For more information and full list of STEP trails, visit CRgov.com/STEP. Questions? Call 720-733-2294 or email [email protected].

TRAIL MAINTENANCE GROUPS The POST Partners Program works with two trail maintenance volunteer groups that help maintain and improve our trail system and Bike Park, the Ridgeline Wranglers and the Rhyolite Bike Park Dirt Crew. Volunteers help with creating water diversions, clearing scrub oak and other brush that may encroach on the trail, maintaining jump lips, implementing trail improvements and eliminating berms, ruts or noxious weeds. Both groups conduct monthly outings (April-Oct.) and schedules can be found at CRgov.com/POSTPartners. Volunteerism can count towards both high school community service requirements and court-ordered community service.

10 AND UNDER QUICKSTART PROGRAMS (AGES 4-10) Camps (four day sessions) & Classes (four week sessions): Ages 4-10

Using the QuickStart Tennis play format, this program takes a new and better approach to introducing kids to the game. Balls are lower in compression; they bounce lower and don’t move as fast, so they are easier to hit. This allows kids time to get to the ball and helps them develop optimal swing patterns. Racquets are sized for small hands, and the courts are smaller and easier to cover. All that equals more fun and less frustration. Full-sized courts are reconfigured to accommodate up to six 36-foot courts, so instead of waiting in line, kids can spend their time playing.

ADULT LEAGUES Meet new players, improve your game and get a weekly workout. Leagues are divided by NTRP levels (2.5-4.5). Leagues are evenings, weekdays or weekends. Captains are needed. Register with a team or contact Barry to be placed on a team. Deadlines apply. Check douglascountytennis.com for details.

LEAGUES Leagues are an excellent way to meet new friends. Play lots of tennis, get a workout and improve your tennis game. Leagues are offered for all levels in the evenings, mornings and weekends. KINDERGARTEN PREP Let’s keep the learning going over the summer with kindergarten Prep. This class is designed as a stepping stone to kindergarten. We will work on building a strong foundation for kindergarten. We will use the same fun learning techniques for our summer session that we do during the regular school year. This means we will use the Zoo Phonic curriculum to enhance learning. This class will have an academic structure, which will include reading, writing, phonemic awareness, math and science. The class is designed to fully equip your child to begin the math, reading, spelling and writing process in kindergarten.
