Launch AppsAnywhere

Open MyLab

AppsAnywhere only works in Windows. Users of other operating systems can launch AppsAnywhere software inside  .MyLab

Alternatively you can manually install it on different systems.

Report a problem with SPSS Statistics

- If you are not on a campus machine, please ensure you areVPN required for offsite use  connected to the VPN before using the software. If you are on campus and connected to Eduroam, then you will not need to connect to the VPN for use.

Students can alternatively use  , which does not require VPN access. You can find MyLabfurther information by visiting the MyLab Help page.

Upgrading your version of SPSS? - Please ensure the older version is uninstalled  completely before installing a different version.  Having multiple versions of SPSS on your device may prevent newer versions running.

For the latest version copy    and psmb://luna.lancaster.ac.uk/software$/Site/spss/28/Macaste it into the dialogue box. 

If prompted, login with:   (e.g.  ) and your lancs\(your University Username) lancs\bloggsjnormal password.

If you require an older version of SPSS, navigate up through the file tree to the version of SPSS you require.

Copy the installer  e.g.  SPSS_Statistics_28_Mac.pkg to your chosen area on your device (e.g. hard disk). Wait for the copying progress bar to complete.   

During the year the supplier may release a fix patch to resolve any bugs.  If there is a fix patch present e.g. FP001, copy this to your hard disk as well. It will need installing after the main software installation is complete.

Double-click on the installer e.g.   file.  Then, double click on SPSS_Statistics_28_Mac.pkgthe icon – on the 'Introduction' select .continue

On the licence splash screen select , then if you wish to install the software Read Licenceselect  Agree

   Choose where you would like the install the software, then select .Continue

If prompted, enter your username and password for your device, then select Mac device in.stall

Wait while the installation progress.

  When the installation has completed, it will ask you to licence the software. 

Licensing SPSS

The SPSS licensing wizard may open automatically. If it doesn't please follow the instructions below.

Go to Launchpad, locate and open the IBM folder.

Run    see dialog.SPSS Statistics License Activation Wizard – License Status

Click    see   dialog.Next – Product Authorization

Wait until the   dialog appears then click License Launch License Wizard

Ensure License my product now is selected and click Next see the – Licensing dialog. 

In the   field, enter the authorization code the code can be found at: Enter Code – Licence  keys and file locations (helpful tip: if you right click on the 'Licence keys and file location'

link then select 'open in new tab', the information will open in a separate tab meaning you won't lose access to these instructions)

If the code is processed successfully, click SPSS v28 should then Next. automatically open for you.

Install SPSS 27 FIX

During the year the supplier may release a fix patch to resolve any bugs.  If there is a fix patch present, copy this to your device as well. It will need installing after the main software installation is complete.

If you have not already copied the fix patch to your device, you will need to return to the file location where you obtained your original installer for the version of SPSS you are running and the fix patch to your device e.g. .  copy FP001.pkg

Double-click on the   file.FP001.pkg

Follow the on-screen instructions.

After you have pressed  at the end you will want to test SPSS.Done

Go to then double-click on  folder, then  folder, then  foldApplications, IBM  SPSS  Statistics er, then  folder, then the  icon.27  SPSSStatistics

Click on   option (top left in the window) then   – see SPSS standard data New Dataset OKgrid screen.

Download the installation files

Before installing SPSS or AMOS locally to your device, you must complete the Copyright . Acknowledgement Agreement

If you are not on campus, please ensure you are connected to the VPN.

When the copy is complete, double-click on the installer e.g. SPSS_Statistics_Client_28_  on your device  wait… the SPSS splash screen appears.Win_64bit.exe – –

Install SPSS

These instructions are for SPSS 28, but the instructions for other versions of SPSS are similar..

You may be prompted to install a new version of Java. If prompted go to AppsAnywhere and launch OpenJDK, a free and open-source version of Java.

The  dialog will appear. Choose where you want to install SPSS then Destination Folder click  .Next

Click  , then wait whilst the software is installed.Install

Wait for the installation to complete and press  . When opening SPSS for the first time you will Finishbe prompted to Licence SPSS

When you open SPSS for the first time, you will see a prompt to activate. Select Launch Licence Wizard

Once the wizard opens click NextEnsure that  is selected, then click  .Authorized user license  Next

The  dialog will appear. In the   field, enter the authorization code Enter Codes  Enter Codeclick , then click  . The fix pack installers are located with the main SPSS 27 Mac folder. You will need to connect to the VPN to access these.  Please see "Download the installation files" section further up the page.

Copy the fix patch installer e.g.   to your device.SPSS_Statistics_Client_27_Win64_FP001

Double-click on the fix patch installer e.g.   file.SPSS_Statistics_Client_27_Win64_FP001

SPSS codes will renew automatically on computers in ISS PC Labs, Teaching Spaces (Lecture Theatres, Teaching Rooms and Seminar Rooms) and for those using AppsAnywhere.

Independent computers need to renew the licence codes once a year in . The  late July or Augustexpiry date is 31st July and warnings are displayed in SPSS as this date approaches. However there is a grace period and codes can be renewed without loss of functionality during August.

To renew the licence code for SPSS

For:

Windows: click the   button – the   menu appears.Start Applications

Mac: go to the   folder.Applications

Then:

Open the   folder.IBM SPSS Statistics

Click on the   IBM SPSS (version number) Statistics License Authorization Wizardoption — the wizard starts and a   dialog appears.License Status

Click  .Next

The   dialog appears.Product Authorization

Ensure that is selected, then click .Authorized user license  Next

Each year, IBM issues new license codes for the four latest versions of SPSS. This year (July 2021) IBM has issued codes for versions  25, 26,  27 & 28. 

The instructions below feature screenshots from SPSS 20 but other versions should be similar. If you are renewing the licence code from off-site, before connect to VPNfollowing the instructions below.
