SPSS v22 Installation Guide - Windows SPSS is a software package published by IBM and used for statistical analysis. The process for installing this application is straightforward, however it contains many steps. Please ensure you follow the instructions below carefully. Before attempting to install SPSS, ensure you have acquired an SPSS licence code from the IT Software self-service web page. Once you have a licence code and have downloaded the necessary SPSS installer and patches, you can follow the steps below to install the software. Please ensure you are connected to the internet throughout the installation and software licensing process. 1. Go to the SPSS installer you have downloaded and saved on your machine. 2. Right-click on the installer and select ‘Run as Administrator’. 3. Click ‘Next’.

4. Select ‘Authorized user license option’ (DO NOT select ‘Concurrent user license’) and click ‘Next’.

5. Select the ‘I accept the terms of the licence agreement’ option and click ‘Next’.

6. Enter your name, organization (Goldsmiths, University of London) and click ‘Next’.

7. Choose the language you'd like Help to display in - English is the only one installed by default - click ‘Next’.

8. Don't enable JAWS unless you need to. Click ‘Next’.

9. Choose ‘Yes’ to install Essentials for Python and click ‘Next’.

10. Select the ‘I accept the terms of the licence agreement’ option (again!) and click ‘Next’.

11. Click ‘Next’ to accept the default installation folder. We recommend that you do not install SPSS to a location other than the default.

12. ‘Ready to Install the Program’. Click ‘Install’ to begin the installation. This will take a few minutes depending on the specification of your computer.

13. ‘Licence IBM SPSS Statistics 22’. SPSS Statistics is now installed. You do not want to ‘Register for product updates etc’ since the software is already registered by the College. Ensure the box is not ticked (click the tick to remove it), then click ‘OK’.

14. Select ‘Licence my product now’ and click ‘Next’.

15. Copy and paste in the authorisation code emailed to your Goldmail account and click ‘Next’.

16. ‘Internet Authorization Status: Successfully processed all codes.’ Click ‘Next’.

17. The installer will now list all licences installed with their expiry date. Click ‘Finish’.

18. It is a good idea to restart your computer after installing any software, before trying to run it. Please restart your computer, then start SPSS to make sure it runs properly.

Please note:

• Your SPSS licence code generally lasts for 12 months from the start of July. IBM provides an additional one month grace period, and so all SPSS licence codes should remain valid until the end of July.

• If you receive a Windows Security Alert about ‘Java(TM) Platform SE Binary - Publisher: IBM’ appears, click on ‘Unblock’ and it should not appear again. This is a helper program for SPSS.

• Unless you have good reason not to, please select ‘Use Unicode encoding’, if prompted.

SPSS v22.0.0.1 and v22.0.0.2 Patch Installation Guide Windows There are two patches for SPSS v22 available. We recommend running these in addition to the main SPSS installer to resolve a number of known issues. 1. Go to the SPSS installer you have downloaded and saved on your machine. 2. Right-click on the installer and select ‘Run as Administrator’. 3. Click ‘Next’.

6. SPSS Statistics patch is now installed.

Please repeat this process for the second patch and restart your computer.
