"Due to the strike of Municipal employees, the drain of bathrooms at several spots has got blocked as a result of which the drainage overflows into the Babul canal," said locals, demanding necessary measures to safeguard the canal. Adulterated milk white poison for users: DAK Srinagar, June 20: Doc- tors Association Kashmir (DAK) Saturday said that contaminated milk was being marketed in Kash- mir with impunity which was taking heavy toll on the entire society. The DAK president, Dr Nisar ul Hassan in a statement said that adulteration of milk was a highly sensitive issue and a matter of grave concern. “Virtually every cup of tea, grown ups here have been taking for years, and every ounce of milk infants have been brought up on is actually a deadly cocktail of detergents and other hazardous substances. A national survey on milk adul - teration in 2011(snap short survey) by FSSAI revealed that 83% of milk consumed in Kash- mir contained danger- ous detergents and other hazardous sub- stances,” Dr Nisar said. “It is shocking that out of 77 milk samples tested in Srinagar Food Analysis Lab, 42 were found adulterated with caustic soda and bicar- bonates. Majority of people in our valley are dependent on milk for their nutritional needs but get white poison instead,” he further said. “The adulterated milk can cause gastroenteritis, heart, kidney, liver and lung diseases and drink- ing of such milk for a prolonged period can cause cancers and even death. The diabetics and hypertensives are not controlled despite medi- cation after consuming contaminated milk,” Dr Nisar said. He added that “Chil- dren have chronic head- aches, eyesight problems and chronic diarrhoeas due to contaminated milk. Infants have abnor- mal growth and nervous disorders due to inges- tion of adulterated milk and pregnant women can lose their foetuses due to toxic adulterants in milk.” The menace of adul- teration of milk is ram- pant in valley and author- ities have failed to curb it, Dr Nisar said. National ‘Yoga Day’ today Srinagar, June 20: NCC cadets in Kashmir along with soldiers of 15 corps are observ- ing Sunday as National ‘Yoga Day’ at Bakshi Stadium here. The NCC cadets from all schools of Srinagar will be participating in the event and contributing in spreading the fitness awareness among the masses, a handout said, adding that similar events are being organized at Baramulla and Anantnag. The DAK president, Dr Nisar ul Hassan in a statement said that adulteration of milk was a highly sensitive issue and a matter of grave concern. “Virtually every cup of tea, grown ups here have been taking for years, and every ounce of milk infants have been brought up on is actually a deadly cocktail of detergents and other hazardous substances. A national survey on milk adul-teration in 2011(snap short survey) by FSSAI revealed that 83% of milk consumed in Kash-mir contained danger-ous detergents and other hazardous sub-stances,” Dr Nisar said. “It is shocking that out of 77 milk samples tested in Srinagar Food Analysis Lab, 42 were found adulterated with

caustic soda and bicar-bonates. Majority of people in our valley are dependent on milk for their nutritional needs but get white poison instead,” he further said. “The adulterated milk can cause gastroenteritis, heart, kidney, liver and lung diseases and drink-ing of such milk for a prolonged period can cause cancers and even death. The diabetics and hypertensives are not controlled despite medi-cation after consuming contaminated milk,” Dr Nisar said. He added that “Chil-dren have chronic head-aches, eyesight problems and chronic diarrhoeas due to contaminated milk. Infants have abnor-mal growth and nervous disorders due to inges-tion of adulterated milk and pregnant women can lose their foetuses due to toxic adulterants in milk.” The menace of adul-teration of milk is ram-pant in valley and author-ities have failed to curb it, Dr Nisar said.
